The desire to ...counter antisemitism was a significant impetus toward the formation of the EU in the twentieth century and now prejudice against Jews threatens to subvert that goal in the twenty-first.The European Union, Antisemitism, and the Politics of Denialoffers an overview of the circumstances that obliged European political institutions to take action against antisemitism and considers the effectiveness of these interventions by considering two seemingly dissimilar EU states, Austria and Sweden.
This examination of the European Union's strategy for countering antisemitism discloses escalating prejudice within the EU in the aftermath of 9/11. R. Amy Elman contends that Europe's political actors have responded to the challenge and provocation of antisemitism with only sporadic rhetoric and inconsistent commitment; this halfhearted strategy for countering anti-Semitism exacerbates skepticism toward EU institutions and their commitment to equality and justice. This exposition of the insipid character of the EU's response simultaneously suggests alternatives that might mitigate the subtle and potentially devastating creep of antisemitism in Europe.
The author offers a new approach insofar as scholarly considerations of the EU's attempts to combat racism rarely focus on antisemitism, while scholarship on antisemitism rarely considers the political context of the European Union.

Dazu stellt die Untersuchung Bezüge zu dem Querschnittsinstrument mainstreaming her und macht die EuGH-Rechtsprechung zu affirmative action-Maßnahmen fruchtbar. Sie widmet sich speziell dem Kriterium der Tariftreueverpflichtung und nimmt eine sorgfältige Verhältnismäßigkeitsprüfung sozialer Vergabekriterien als Instrument staatlicher Regulierung vor. Schließlich werden anhand der gefundenen Ergebnisse die neuen Vergaberichtlinien 2004/17/EG und 2004/18/EG untersucht.

Die Arbeit untersucht das mit der Verbreitung strafrechtlicher Sanktionen für Kartellrechtsverstöße verbundene Konfliktpotenzial auf internationaler Ebene und beleuchtet dabei insbesondere die ...Gefahren, die sich aus dem parallelen Eingreifen mehrerer nationaler Kartellstrafregime auf einen internationalen Kartellverstoß ergeben. Dabei werden vorgelagert die auf strafrechtlicher und auf kartellrechtlicher Seite bestehenden internationalen Kooperations- und Koordinierungsmechanismen auf ihre Verfügbarkeit bei der Durchsetzung nationaler Kartellstraftatbestände hin untersucht. In diesem Zusammenhang wird unter anderem ein umfassendes Lösungsmodell dazu entwickelt, inwieweit die Staatsanwaltschaften der EU-Mitgliedsstaaten den Instrumenten der europäischen Kartellverfahrensverordnung (Verordnung 1/2003) unterliegen und wann ein nationaler Straftatbestand als „einzelstaatliches Wettbewerbsrecht“ im Sinne dieser Verordnung anzusehen ist.
This open access book investigates the complexity and the modalities of securitization of migration and border control at the EU level. It discusses and compares how different EU institutions and ...agencies have been deploying different logics of security, e.g. humanitarianism or management of risk, while framing increased migratory flows and so called migration crisis as a security problem. The book argues that the (re)development of EU migration and border control policies in response to increased migratory flows of 2015 have revealed an increasingly tangled nature of securitization of migration in the EU. This is reflected in the intertwining of security logics where migrants and human mobility tend to be securitized through different, sometimes multiple, interpretative lenses at different stages of policy framing. From a theoretical point of view, the book develops a fresh analytical perspective that further contributes to burgeoning discussion on securitization theory. By bridging the literature on policy framing and securitization it makes a significant contribution to the debates on both securitization and migration. As such this book is of great interest to students, academics, policy makers and all those working in the fields of EU politics, migration, security, and international relations.

Am 1.5.2011 ist die beim Beitritt Polens zur EU vereinbarte Übergangsfrist für die Arbeitnehmerfreizügigkeit abgelaufen. Damit wurde zwischen Polen und Deutschland die Freizügigkeit aller ...unselbständig Erwerbstätigen hergestellt. Diesen Schritt hatten manche für problematisch gehalten und vor Gefährdungen der Kollektivvertrags- und Sozialleistungssysteme gewarnt. Ein Blick in die Geschichte zeigt, dass der Austausch von Arbeitskräften zwischen Polen und Deutschland alles andere als ein neues Phänomen darstellt. Unter dem Dach der EU sind nun mit der Herstellung der Freizügigkeit neue Chancen verbunden: sowohl für die Menschen als auch die Volkswirtschaften in beiden Nachbarländern. Wie aber wird sich die freizügigkeitsbedingte Liberalisierung der Arbeitsmärkte in Polen und Deutschland auswirken? Welche rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen bestehen, und welche Regelungen sollten möglicherweise getroffen werden? Diesen Fragen wird in den im Band abgedruckten Beiträgen nachgegangen. Untersucht werden die grundlegenden Prinzipien der Alterssicherung von Beamten und ihre mögliche Veränderung im Laufe der Zeit. Dabei steht die aktuelle Situation in einer Reihe von europäischen Ländern im Vordergrund. Ausgehend von den in Deutschland über die letzten Jahrzehnte gesammelten Erfahrungen, wird die Alterssicherung von Beamten in Deutschland, Frankreich, Italien, Dänemark, Norwegen, Schweden, Rußland, der Schweiz, Slowenien, Tschechien und im Vereinigten Königreich dargestellt. Das Dienstrecht der Europäischen Union und der Vereinten Nationen wird ergänzend einbezogen.
