Model-based phylogenetic reconstructions increasingly consider spatial or phenotypic traits in conjunction with sequence data to study evolutionary processes. Alongside parameter estimation, ...visualization of ancestral reconstructions represents an integral part of these analyses. Here, we present a complete overhaul of the spatial phylogenetic reconstruction of evolutionary dynamics software, now called SpreaD3 to emphasize the use of data-driven documents, as an analysis and visualization package that primarily complements Bayesian inference in BEAST (http://beast.bio.ed.ac.uk, last accessed 9 May 2016). The integration of JavaScript D3 libraries (www.d3.org, last accessed 9 May 2016) offers novel interactive web-based visualization capacities that are not restricted to spatial traits and extend to any discrete or continuously valued trait for any organism of interest.
The ongoing pandemic has brought Boccaccio’s masterpiece back into the limelight on account of its portrayal of the «deadly plague ... that began somewhere in the Orient» and its descriptions of the ...isolation suffered by the «genteel company» of narrators whose story provides the frame tale fiction. Because the Decameron Web is vicariously sharing in this period of renewed interest, we take this opportunity to evaluate the project, an experiment that began partly as a digital edition and partly as a workspace intended for reading and pedagogic collaboration. After a brief review of ‘what is living and what is dead’ (i.e., obsolete) in the Decameron Web, we sketch out the contours of its potential relaunch, giving particular attention to two concerns: current plans for restructuring it into an online resource for a wider community of readers, scholars and students; and the implementation of new tools for enhancing the visualization of Boccaccio’s world.
Motivation
The intrinsic characteristics of islands make them a unique study system for the investigation of ecological and evolutionary dynamics. The Mediterranean Basin, an island‐rich biodiversity ...hotspot, still lacks a comprehensive spatial database for these geographic features. This study presents the first comprehensive spatial database of all Mediterranean islands larger than 0.01 km2, aiding ecological investigations and interdisciplinary research.
Main types of variable contained
The MEDIS spatial database offers detailed information on 39 geographic, climatic, ecological and land‐use variables, including island area, perimeter, isolation metrics, climatic space, terrain data, land cover, palaeogeography, road networks and geological information, providing a multifaceted view of each island's characteristics.
Spatial location and grain
The study encompasses 2217 islands in the Mediterranean Basin larger than 0.01 km2. The spatial grain of the datasets on which the selected variables are based varies from 10 m (ESA WorldCover) to 1 km (CHELSA‐BIOCLIM+).
Time period and grain
The spatial database incorporates data from various sources, each with its own timeframe, such as the Global Shoreline Vector from 2014 Landsat imagery and the WorldCover dataset from 2021. Historical data like the Paleocoastlines GIS dataset offer insights into island configurations during the Last Glacial Maximum.
Major taxa and level of measurement
While not focusing on specific taxa, the study lays the foundation for comprehensive research on Mediterranean islands, facilitating comparisons and investigations into the distribution of native, endemic or alien species. The level of measurement is extensive, encompassing a wide range of variables and providing polygonal features rather than centroids' coordinates.

Приводится описание стеганографического метода встраивания невидимого цифрового водяного знака в пространственные данные электронных карт в целях защиты авторских прав на карты, обеспечения целостности последних или доказательства их подлинности. Метод применим к электронным картам в форматах Shapefile и GeoJSON. Он основывается на размещении дополнительных точек в пространственных объектах (полигонах), составляющих электронную карту. В данном случае карта служит контейнером, а координаты точек являются элементами ключевой информации стеганографического преобразования. При этом устанавливается связь между пространственными объектами карты, что обеспечивает их целостность. Рассматриваются алгоритмы прямого и обратного стеганографического преобразования. Описывается разработанный интернет-сервис StegoMap для реализации размещения и извлечения невидимого цифрового водяного знака на основе предложенного метода.
Rare and endemic plant species could serve as a litmus test for analyzing current state of ecosystems that are rapidly changing under the anthropogenic pressure. Undisturbed foothills and mountainous ...areas are key places to conserve as they still retain the natural conditions as the human activity there is limited because of their difficult accessibility. We used biodiversity informatics methods for preparation of the online Red Data Book (plants) within the borders of particular natural unit – the Altai Mountain Country (AMC). The Herbarium ALTB (Barnaul) served as the empirical basis for the current study, and it is the largest plants collection from transboundary territory of the AMC and the main material of the "Flora Altaica" project. Thanks to the Herbarium ALTB digitizing, it becomes possible to identify endemics of the AMC transboundary territory and to establish the specificity of the flora without government and language barriers. Online Red Data Books created for the natural units are prospective for revealing of the endemism level and plants rarity rank. Our initial experience in the online Red Data Book development allow us to formulate some principals and approaches.
With the explosion of Big Data, visualizing statistical data became a challenging topic that has involved many research efforts over the last years. Interpreting Big Data and efficiently showing ...information for good understanding are difficult tasks, especially in healthcare scenarios, where different types of data have to been managed and cross-related. Some models and techniques for health data visualization have been presented in literature. However, they do not satisfy the visualization needs of physicians and medical personnel. In this paper, we present a new graphical tool for the visualization of health data, that can be easily used for monitoring health status of patients remotely. The tool is very user friendly, and allows physician to quickly understand the current status of a person by looking at colored circles. From a technical point of view, the proposed solution adopts the geoJSON standard to classify data into different circles.
Point Cloud PNG was invented as a format for handling a large number of two-dimensional and threedimensional point data via the Internet. Point Cloud PNG uses PNG, an existing popular image file ...format, to hold numerical data converted into pixels. In the PNG, the header and each point information are arranged in the order of laster scan. The prototype data of two-dimensional point cloud showed that the file size of Point Cloud PNG was extremely small, about 6.3% compared to Mapbox Vector Tiles format and about 0.49% compared to the original data GeoJSON. This format is also easy to use with WebGL, which allows the GPU to be manipulated in a web browser.
