"This dissertation examines the relationship between collage – experiences of difference – artists. It explores the (art) history of collage as well as the perspective on collage as an artistic, ...methodological, epistemological and biographical principle. Likewise, the thesis that experiences of difference materialize artistically as well as biographically and can be found in textual and pictorial material will be pursued – with a focus on subjectification theory. Experiences of difference are understood in this research as reflections of experiences of discrimination and of othering (processes of being made into supposed others). The present research on subjectification – which centers on the life and work of Hannah Höch (1889-1978) – is carried out, on the one hand, on the basis of a discourse-analytical examination of biographical text documents of the artist; on the other hand, this very text analysis is related to an image analysis of the höch collage “Lebensbild” from 1972/1973. The pictorial and textual material will be interrogated for the (de-)thematization of the four categories of difference: gender, class, body/disability, race as well as their intersectional entanglement. In a micro-linguistic fine analysis, the linguistic (re-)production of possible experiences of difference will be examined on the basis of the three analysis heuristics: invocation, self-statements, biographical experiences. Embedded in and engaging with contemporary discourses of art and special education, this work aims to transform research findings on experiences of difference/collage/artists for those same disciplines. The perspective of Hannah Höch as an artist has so far been a research desideratum with a deeper focus on the analysis of body/disability and gender; the present study addresses this very issue and thus also shows transdisciplinary connectivity to Gender and Disability Studies."
"Die vorliegende Dissertation untersucht das Verhältnis Collage – Differenzerfahrungen – Künstler:Innen. Dabei wird die (Kunst-)Geschichte der Collage sowie die Perspektive auf Collage als künstlerisches, methodisches, epistemologisches und biographisches Prinzip erforscht. Ebenso wird – unter subjektivierungstheoretischem Fokus – der These nachgegangen, dass sich Differenzerfahrungen künstlerisch wie biographisch materialisieren und sich in Text- und Bildmaterial auffinden lassen. Differenzerfahrungen werden in dieser Forschungsarbeit verstanden als Reflexionen von Diskriminierungserfahrungen und von Othering/Veranderung (Prozessen des Gemacht-Werdens zu vermeintlich Anderen). Die vorliegende Subjektivierungsforschung – in deren Zentrum Leben und Werk Hannah Höchs (1889-1978) stehen – vollzieht sich zum einen anhand einer diskursanalytischen Untersuchung biographischer Textdokumente der Künstlerin; zum anderen wird ebendiese Textanalyse mit einer Bildanalyse der höch’schen Collage „Lebensbild“ aus dem Jahr 1972/1973 in Bezug gesetzt. Das Bild- und Textmaterial wird auf die (De-)Thematisierung der vier Differenzkategorien Geschlecht, Klasse, Körper/Behinderung, Herkunft/race sowie deren intersektionaler Verschränkung befragt und in einer mikrosprachlichen Feinanalyse anhand der drei Analyseheuristiken Anrufung, Selbstaussagen, biographische Erfahrungen auf die sprachliche (Re-)Produktion möglicher Differenz(-Erfahrungen) untersucht. Eingebettet in und in Auseinandersetzung mit zeitgenössischen Diskursen von Kunst- und Sonderpädagogik verfolgt diese Arbeit das Ziel, Forschungsergebnisse zu Differenzerfahrungen/ Collage/Künstler:Innen für ebenjene Disziplinen zu transformieren. Die Perspektivierung der Künstlerin Hannah Höch stellte unter dem vertieften Analysefokus von Körper/Behinderung und Geschlecht bislang ein Forschungsdesiderat dar; die vorliegende Untersuchung bespielt ebendieses und zeigt sich hierdurch zusätzlich transdisziplinär anschlussfähig an die Gender und Disability Studies."
The essay investigates the presence of exotic, valuable, rare and often bizarre objects in the noble courts of the fifteenth-century South, with the aim of assessing the degree of diffusion of ...foreign artefacts among the wealthy classes, but also in the regional and local market circuits. In particular, some inventories of the Apulian area will be examined, belonging both to exponents of ecclesiastical feudality, such as the bishop of Otranto, Nicola Pagano, and to leading figures of the southern baronage, such as the count of Ugento, Angilberto del Balzo, son-in-law of powerful prince of Taranto and known above all for his involvement in the great conspiracy of 1485. Through the detailed description of a wide range of objects (books, jewels, crockery, tapestries, clothes, kit items, various accessories or other), with the indication of the material and the origin, it will be possible to offer a contribution to the reconstruction of the dynamics economic-commercial that fueled the circulation in Southern Italy of manufactured products from outside the Kingdom (Venice, Vicenza, Verona, Florence.) and internationally (Catalan, Parisian, Dutch, Balkan, Turkish, etc.). The same objects will also allow you to get an idea of the orientation of tastes and preferences, the dictates of fashion, the cultural suggestions, style and mentality of the time.
En este artículo se aborda una caracterización de la obra de arte digital realizada a partir de los preceptos ontológicos y estéticos de Nicolai Hartmann sobre los estratos, categorías y valores en ...el arte. Esta perspectiva se asume como una vía para mediar en el debate académico sobre la estética del mundo virtual. El método propuesto es una ontología hermenéutica. A partir de este marco filosófico se realiza una caracterización de los estratos estéticos del arte digital (material, logicial, oréctico y virtual) con sus correspondientes dominios categoriales. El resultado final se presenta como un aspecto parcial de una teoría estética de mayor alcance sobre el arte de la virtualidad digital.
Jacques Ryckmans demonstrated in 1963 that horses had appeared in South Arabia in the 1st century AD. Of the numerous epigraphic texts and carved representations published since, briefly summarized ...by the authors, none of them contradict this hypothesis. However, two points can be clarified. Firstly, the fact that horses do not appear in epigraphic and visual sources until the late 1st century AD does not necessarily mean that it was introduced at that time. This introduction must have spanned a long period of time, with many failures and renewed attempts.The second important development has to do with the scarcity of horses, greater than previously expected, until Late Antiquity. This was already suggested by the corpus of South Arabian inscriptions; and it has since been proven by the petroglyphs discovered in the region of Ḥimā in southern Saudi Arabia. Most of the many engravings of horsemen to be found there can be attributed to the Islamic period. In fact, representations of horsemen confidently dated to the pre-Islamic period are exceptionally rare.
A discussion on the reform of higher education in humanities in Russia in the spring of 1917 is analyzed. At the center of this discussion, questions regarding the organization of the teaching of ...general history of arts and archeology at Petrograd University and in technical colleges are considered. This discussion reflected the long process of delimitation of a number of disciplines (classical philology, history of art, archeology) and the formation of their own research and teaching field. Two earlier unknown documents are published: a letter from S. A. Zhebelev to V. N. Rakint, the Scientific Secretary of the Institute of History of Arts, and a note by V. Ya. Kurbatov “About teaching of the history of art in the higher technical educational institutions” from the funds of the Central State Archive of Literature and Arts. These documents expand our ideas of the history of the reforming of the higher school in 1917–1922, and the final delimitation of history of arts and archeology not only as academic disciplines, but also as educational directions. Zhebelev’s letter and Kurbatov’s note characterize the atmosphere in the Russian pedagogical environment of 1917–1922, when large-scale and effective reforms of the higher school were possible. It is obvious that some of the ideas stated during the given discussion and realized during the formation of the faculty of social sciences of Petrograd University are relevant today as well: curricula, training of teaching staff, emphasis on practical use of theoretical knowledge, and a polydisciplinary approach in the educational process.
Региональный авангард «второй волны» относится к малоизученным темам современного российского искусствоведения. Актуальность данного исследования обусловлена тем, что впервые оренбургский авангард ...рассматривается в контексте отечественной культуры. На основе анализа творчества художников, отвергавших догматы официального искусства и отстаивавших право на свое видение художественного мира, научных статей, альбомов и каталогов выставок, статей в прессе указываются основные особенности авангардного искусства Оренбурга. Значительным явлением в культурной жизни города стало создание в начале 1970-х годов творческого объединения художников «Академия Садки», оказавшего большое влияние на становление оренбургского авангарда. Первое большое признание пришло к авангардистам в 1991 году, когда на аукционе «Отель Друо» в Париже были представлены «работы художников Урала» с подзаголовком «Подпольное искусство». При рассмотрении данной темы автор указывает и на некооперированных художников, каждый из которых в результате творческих поисков пришел к авангардному искусству. В статье делается акцент на том, что авангардисты трудно пробивали себе дорогу к зрителю, долго не получали признания своего творчества, чаще выставлялись за границей, чем в России. На сегодня творчество оренбургских авангардистов признано всеми, и их персональные выставки проходят на всех экспозиционных площадках города. На основе проделанной работы делается вывод об особенностях второго авангарда в Оренбурге: местные авангардисты были далеки как от соцреалистического, так и от постмодернистского искусства, в своем творчестве не затрагивали современных остросоциальных и политических проблем, для них были важны общечеловеческие и художественные ценности, а в решении живописных задач они опирались на традиции авангардного искусства начала XX века.
Shibusa - Extracting Beauty celebrates a number of artistic endeavours: music, painting and the skill of making in general with particular reflection upon Japanese aesthetics. Composer, Monty Adkins ...and visual artist, Pip Dickens (through a Leverhulme Trust Award collaboration) investigate commonality and difference between the visual arts and music exploring aspects of rhythm, pattern, colour and vibration as well as outlining processes utilised to evolve new works within these practices. The hand-cut paper Katagami stencil: a beautiful utilitarian object once used to apply decoration on to Japanese kimonos, is used as a poignant symbol - the 'hand-made machine' - by Adkins and Dickens both within the production of paintings and sound compositions and as a thematic link throughout the book. The book reviews examples of a number of contemporary artists and craftspeople and their individual approaches to 'making things well'. It explores the balance between hand skills and technology within a work's production with particular reference to Richard Sennett's review of material culture in The Craftsman. Shibusa - Extracting Beauty includes contributing essays by arts writer, Roy Exley, who examines convergence and crossover within the arts and an in-depth history, and review, of the kimono making industry by Kyoto designer, Makoto Mori.

Die jeweilige Kunstwissenschaft, so die zugrunde liegende Hypothese, bezieht ihre Geltung und ihren Rang aus der allgemeinen Wertschätzung ihrer Bezugskunst. Auf diese Weise geraten die Künste und ihre Wissenschaften in eine sich wechselseitig verstärkende Konkurrenz, die ihren Ausdruck in zahlreichen Debatten über die jeweilige Leitkunst findet. Die interdisziplinär hier versammelten Beiträge erschließen aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven die wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Ausdifferenzierungs- und Homogenisierungsprozesse, in deren Zusammenhang der Wettstreit der Künste und ihrer Wissenschaften im 19. This study is the first comprehensive curricular comparison of graduate arts management programs in the United States. Its principal finding is that there exists considerable curricular convergence ...among arts management programs and that their differences may be exploited strategically. Through extensive curricular analysis and in-depth conversations with faculty, this study makes both conceptual and methodological contributions to the field-conceptual because it provides an empirical basis for the definition of arts management as a formal academic discipline in its own right and methodological because it proposes a framework to effect a systematic comparison of arts management program curricula.
