Resonance frequencies of unconsolidated sediments of the Iska alluvial fan (Ljubljana Moor basin) were derived using microtremor method. Free-field measurements were conducted in a grid with point ...spacing of approximately 250 m. The sediments frequency-thickness relationship, h = 202.97 f.sup.-1.139, was obtained on the basis of 107 microtremor measurements, six existing boreholes that reached the Pre-Quaternary basement and two seismic reflection profiles. The reliance of the obtained relationship was evaluated with the R2 coefficient, which shows a very good level of determination. The resonance frequency map reveals the existence of an N-S oriented deeper buried valley (maximum depth 119 m) in the Western part of the alluvial fan. The microtremor HVSR amplitude map does not show any specific spatial distribution pattern, with the exception of a relatively narrow band of low amplitudes located north of Iska vas. This is probably related to an area of severely fractured bedrock along the Misji Dol fault. Map of the Quaternary sediment thickness and map of the Pre-Quaternary basement topography were constructed on the basis of the established relationship. The basement topography map shows rather steep western slopes of the buried valley down to deepest part, followed by a gradually ascending basement towards the Eastern part of the fan. The comparison of the obtained parameters a and b in frequency-thickness relationship with other sedimentary basins around the world reveals a small variation of b values, and a rather large range of a values, which implies that the parameter a is characteristic for certain geological areas. The results of this research will find use in constructing more accurate hydrogeological models and for assessment of possible sediments-structure resonance effects in seismic microzonation. The micro-history of resistance and collaboration, as the subtitle could read of Gestrin’s study on the life in the villages at the base of Mt. Krim in 1941–1945, is the author’s attempt at ...reconstructing the most traumatic period in Slovenian history. Gestrin’s history of death and hope is not just another descriptive statistics of combat units, but rather a cross-section of a violent daily routine that divided former neighbors into members of the resistance and collaborators with the occupying forces. These are brought back to life in the central chapters of the book, also by revealing nearly every aspect of their existence: what kind of families they came from, what they did for a living, the extent to which were they (if at all) active in the Communist Party or a trade union organization before the war. To what extent were they (if at all) torn between work in the nearby Ljubljana and chores on their farms, how did they experience the occupation, why did they join the Partisan and MVAC units, respectively, and, finally, why were they forced or otherwise compelled to switch sides and what implications did that have for their families…
The monograph treats an environmental interpretation which is not only one of the most effective processes for informing and raising the awareness of visitors to and residents of protected areas, but ...also one of the most demanding and complex ones. The case of the Ljubljana Moor (Ljubljansko barje) is used to analyze the relationship between people and nature from various perspectives and to present a possible approach to interpreting this cultural landscape. In 2008, the area was protected and designated the Ljubljansko barje Landscape park. A detailed analysis of the Iška River basin was performed in order to demonstrate how various interpretation tools can be used to interpret the environment for real and virtual visitors in various age groups.
This paper presents the recent excavations of two Late Bronze Age archaeological sites on the edge of the Ljubljana Marshes. The newly discovered urn burial from Matena has been associated with the ...settlement in Iška Loka. Both sites have been linked to the sites of the Oloris-Podsmreka Horizon in Slovenia, which belong to the broader cultural circle of the Virovitica Group. The sites of the Oloris-Podsmreka Horizon occur over a long period of time; from the second half of the 15th cent. to the end of the 13th cent. BC, i.e. Bz C/D–Ha A. Both sites presented in this paper are dated to the later part of the Bz D phase (13th cent. BC).

HISTORICAL RELATIONS OF ADJECTIVES WITH THE SUFFIXES -ingas (-a) , -inis ( -ė ) AND -iškas (-a)

Derivatives in -ingas (-a) (< *-ino- +*-g- ) were much more productive in Old Lithuanian than ...in Modern Lithuanian. In the 1 6th–17th centuries they were widely formed not only from substantives but also from adjectives (cf. dosningas MP 96; K1G 63; C I 708 : dosnùs ‘generous, liberal’), verbs (cf. geidingas ‘desirous’ SP I 35919-20 : geĩsti ‘desire’) and sometimes from participles, cf. išganytingas ‘ sa lutary’ (widely used in Old Lithuanian texts) : išganýtas ‘saved’. The same derivational features are characteric of adjectives in *-ingo- in Latvian, partly in Old Prussian and of corresponding derivatives with the suffix *-ino- in the Baltic languages.
Some Old Lithuanian adjectives in -ingas (-a) had the same meaning as their equivalents with the suffixes -inas (cf. kruvingas KN 25114 and krùvinas ‘bloody’), -inis (cf. akmeningas DP 687 and akmenìnis ‘of stones’), -iškas (dievingas SD3 232 and diẽviškas ‘divine’). Adjectives in -iškas (-a) were also semanticaly very close to derivatives in -inis (-ė) in the texts of the 16th–17th centuries, cf. example from „Ewangelie Polskie y Litewskie” (1647) by J. Jaknavičius: tewas iuʃu dungißkas (aba dunginis) peni iuos 11313 -16 .
S o in Old Lithuanian denominative derivatives in -ingas (-a), -inas ( -a ) , -inis ( -ė ) and -iškas (-a) belonged to the same derivational category of attributive adjectives. On the other hand, deverbal derivatives in -ingas (-a), -inas ( -a ) , -tinas (-a) and other deverbal adjectives can be ascribed to another derivational category – adjectives denoting actions and their results.

The USSR was dominated by its ruling Communist Party, and the party was in turn dominated by a political elite that was represented in its Central Committee. Nearly two thousand individuals were ...members of the Central Committee between 1917 and 1991, who may be divided into four distinct political generations from the professional revolutionaries born in the late nineteenth century to the post‐war generation that was beginning to enter the political elite in the Gorbachev years. There were considerable variations over time in the characteristics of the Central Committee, including the extent to which its membership was replaced at successive party congresses. But a close relationship developed between particular occupational positions and Central Committee membership, a ‘job‐slot’ system that lasted until the final years of communist rule. The Central Committee as an institution was generally marginal to the political process. But it met more frequently and took more decisions in the 1920s and late 1980s, and on several occasions, its meetings were decisive in resolving leadership conflicts; they also ventilated policy alternatives, and sometimes disagreements. In the last years of communist rule, the elite sought increasingly to transform their positions of political power into the more enduring advantage of property, and this allowed many of them to maintain their elite status into the post‐communist period. As well as printed sources, the study draws on recently opened party archives and about a hundred interviews with members of the Brezhnev‐era Central Committee.
This paper provides an overview of hydromorphological and related classifications of rivers in Slovenia and elsewhere. The Rosgen classification is presented in greater detail; it was used in the ...study as the basis for developing the first Slovenian hydromorphological classification. A hydromorphological survey form was designed to classify rivers and used in the office and field survey of hydromorphological variables in the 95 river sections selected in Slovenia. In the river sections studied, hydromorphological types were identified by analyzing the co-occurrence of selected hydromorphological variables. This method was used to identify 10 hydromorphological types, for which the main hydromorphological features are presented in this paper. Based on the results of the first hydromorphological classification of Slovenian rivers, guidelines are provided for future work.
The Jewish families in Shimon Hatzadiq hope their Arab neighbours will eventually leave and be replaced by Jews, to accelerate the fulfilment of the Jewish dream of Jerusalem as the undivided capital ...of Israel. The Arabs hope the Jews will realize they are unwelcome and move back out, enabling Jerusalem to be the capital of a future Palestinian state. But Shimon Hatzadiq is not a singular phenomenon. Throughout East Jerusalem, similar Jewish enclaves are being zealously established with the goal of reigniting Jewish life in what is termed "the heart of Jerusalem" rather than "East Jerusalem," says Daniel Luria, spokesman for Ateret Kohanim, the organization championing the movement. "Zionism didn't end in 1948 or 1967," he says. "The Jewish dream of having a safe, thriving Jewish community in the heart of Jerusalem hasn't been achieved yet." There have been plenty of cases in East Jerusalem, he says, in which there are illegal allocations of government funds or in which "settlers" are given the inside track by government agencies. He says he has even witnessed situations in which land is declared "absentee property"(property in a captured territory that is managed by a government appointee), turned over to Jews and the Arabs living in the house find "their stuff being thrown out the window and themselves evicted." Widespread illegality reigns, he alleges, but nevertheless admits that there are circumstances in which properties in East Jerusalem are turned over in a completely legal manner and by the consent of the Arab owner. He points out that Shimon Hatzadiq is one distinct example. "The property was owned by Jews prior to 1948 and the Jordanian custodian for enemy property built homes on this land to house refugees - so the title here clearly belongs to the Jews," he says. Confirming the Jewish claims, Daniel Seidman elaborates that Jews have been able to legally repopulate the area because Arabs sold to them or violated contract agreements and were evicted by a court. But the bottom line is that both the Arabs and Jews, determined to force the other out of East Jerusalem, claim the other side is wrong, lying, cheating, stealing or forging documents. At the end of the day, says Seidman, "you'll never hear a settler say I've ripped off a Palestinian, and you'll never hear a Palestinian say anything but that he's been ripped off." At the heart of the issue is the controversial piece of land itself, over which Israelis and Palestinians have been competing for some 120 years, says Yisra'el Kimche, a geographer at the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies and 70-year Jerusalem resident. "Each side thinks that if it settles in this place, it will own it," he explains. Documents clearly show that most of the land in question was owned by Jews many years ago, he says, similar to land in west Jerusalem that was once owned by Arabs but was turned over to the government after they left during the War of Independence. It's difficult to examine whether all the transactions going on today are legal, he continues, because most of it is done in secret to protect the Arabs who are thought to be betraying their brethren by selling to Jews. "The Jewish organizations try to do everything legally, but no one knows exactly what's happening there because everything is kept very quiet," he says. But the phenomenon, he adds, is nothing new. "Most of the Jewish neighbourhoods in west Jerusalem were purchased from Arabs since the middle of the 19th century," he says. "It's just in the last couple of years that it's become a major political issue." The issue itself has been greatly exaggerated, Kimche says, because the actual number of Jews moving into Arab areas of East Jerusalem is small and the number of Jews already living in what is considered East Jerusalem -in neighbourhoods such as Pisgat Ze'ev built north, south and east of the Green Line - is more than 180,000, only slightly fewer than the number of Palestinians residing there.
