This paper aims to analyse Ranganathan’s involvement in international professional associations; specifically, it will look at his contributions within IFLA and the Indian scholar’s activity within ...FID (Fédération Internationale d’Information et de Documentation). Although Ranganathan’s involvement in IFLA initiatives is mainly related to cataloguing issues, there is no lack of more general reflections on the role the international association should play and its positioning in relation to ‘non-Western’ countries. His participation in FID, on the other hand, is characterised by his active involvement in the creation of FID/CA, FID Committee on Classification Theory.
By introducing the IFLA Library Reference Model, the significance of authority control is constantly increasing as authority data will play a key role in the linked data network. Consequently, the ...preparation of authority data will help when implementing IFLA LRM and will prove useful during the transition to RDA (Resource Description and Access). The overview of authority data situation in the COBISS.net system with the focus on the Slovenian COBISS.SI system is presented. In addition to this, the options of further development of authority records are indicated. The situation in CONOR.SI and SGC authority databases as well as the enrichment of authority records for personal names and for corporate body names with identifiers are described. Additionally, plans for the transition to a new catalogue based on the IFLA LRM conceptual model are indicated.

Method/processThrough the review of 2017-2019 IFLA Knowledge Management Section's meetings and case analysis, this paper introduced the specific works of Knowledge Management Section and the future development prospects of knowledge management. Result/conclusionThe IFLA Knowledge Management Section has made great contributions to increasing the impact of knowledge management, and in the future we should boldly introduce knowledge management into libraries, and make it an active theory, then continue to grow the theory of knowledge management through more discipline crossover and collaboration.
The purpose of the article is to study the history of the IFLA/UNESCO Public Library Manifesto, analyze and compare the content of its four editions, substantiate the significance of the document for ...the development of publiclibraries in Ukraine. The methodological basis of the study are principles of historical method, objectivity, continuity and comprehensiveness. From the positions of scientific methodology, the problem is examined on the basis of system approach. The decision of the tasks was carried out using a system of scientific, historical, and bibliographic methods: theoretical (analysis, synthesis, etc.), empirical (description), comparative, source analysis. Scientific novelty. Thestudy is the first attempt to analyze the four editions of the IFLA/UNESCO Public Library Manifesto in Ukrainian librarianship. Conclusions. As a result of the study, the history of four editions of the IFLA/UNESCO Public Library Manifesto, adopted in 1949, 1972, 1994, 2022, was considered. The content of the main parts of the document in each edition was analyzed. The principle issues for all four editions are characterized. Innovative issues in different editions of the Manifesto were identified. Information about the significance of the IFLA/UNESCO Public Library Manifesto for the development of the public library phenomenon is summarized. The IFLA/UNESCO Public Library Manifesto has been proven to be an important milestone in the history of librarianship, demonstrating both the evolution of library science and valuable practical activity. The necessity of studying the IFLA/UNESCO Public Library Manifesto by Ukrainian scientists and librarians is substantiated. The need for translation of the text of the document into Ukrainian and its discussion by the professional library community of Ukraine is emphasized.

The aim of this paper is to study the technological implementation of the emergent bibliographic models (IFLA LRM in particular) taking into account one of the most widespread platforms for the ...semantic web, namely Wikibase. Different initiatives of implementation of LRM have been taken into account, included: a) a prototype cataloging interface; b)the implementation of the new cataloging system for the Bibliothéque Nationale de France (Bnf); c) a test of use of one of the feature of the Wikibase data model - namely the "qualifier"- to find a sustainable solution for the LRM nomen entity. Wikibase and his data model cannot be considered the magical unicorn that solves all problems. More in-depth analysis and tests are needed, but – as an intermediate result – we can consider Wikibase a promising platform also in the bibliographic field with a low entry barrier.
This article presents the current state of bibliographic transition in France, the approach and the organization that were applied to make library catalogues compatible with semantic web technologies ...and bibliographic data on the web. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to move to entity-based cataloguing built on the IFLA LRM model. After a thorough study of the RDA standard, which was the first step to take, France has chosen to keep some autonomy and create a national cataloguing standard, RDA-FR, which is an Anglo-American standard adapted to the French context. In order to implement this change, the Bibliographic Transition programme has been assigned to two national bibliographic agencies with three operational pillars representing the three facets of the program: standardisation, training and support for the evolution of systems and data. The choices and the issues are given in details, as well as the missions and achievements of the groups. This organisation has been established to ensure a regular flow of information between the operational and strategic levels on one side and between different groups on the other side. Overall consistency is one of the key features of the programme whose role is to bring together and represent all French libraries and French cultural institutions while taking into account their needs and the needs of their users.
Since the publication of the Functional Requirementes for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) in 1998, the world’s leading experts on cataloguing cartographic resources have questioned the possibilities of ...applying the conceptual model to cartography. They tried to understand how cartographic resources could be treated in the context of an entity-relationship model, focusing on the possibilities of applying Group 1 entities and FRBR’s relations to cartography. The debate that followed led to the establishment of conflicting positions. Many of the criticisms made to FRBR also apply to IFLA Library Reference Model (IFLA LRM), the new conceptual model, published in 2017. While showing some improvements it seems to fit forcibly into the description of cartographic resources.
Introduction. This study aims to identify disaster preparedness conducted by the Library of the Ministry of "X" through disaster preparedness standards by the International Federation of Library ...Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Data Collection Methods. Using a qualitative case study method, the data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and document studies. Data analysis. Data from interviews and observations were reduced using transcripts and coding. The data was analyzed based on the five aspects of disaster management by IFLA. Results and Discussion. The results of the study show that among the five stages of IFLA disaster preparedness, almost all of the stages did not meet the standard and comprehensive manner. Based on the risk assessment, it is known that the biggest threat comes from the internal environment, one of them is library human resources. Lack of awareness of library human resources affects the absence of an optimal budget and disaster preparedness activities. Conclusion. The Ministry Library "X" in Jakarta had carried out disaster preparedness according to IFLA standards, however, it is still in the early stage.

Infatti in ambito bibliotecario statunitense il focus si è rivolto sempre di più, durante gli ultimi anni, verso le tematiche relative a “Diversità, Equità e Inclusione” (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), identificate appunto tramite l’acronimo DEI oppure EDI, con un filone di studi, di ricerche e un certo “attivismo”, in modo da rispecchiare sempre più, a livello di servizi e di collezioni, non soltanto le diversità delle proprie comunità, ma anche la giustizia sociale.
