The Bay of Koper is influenced by agricultural, urban, and port activities, therefore pollution from trace metals is a concern. A total of 20 sediment samples obtained from four 10-cm sediment cores ...were analyzed. Element concentration in the sediment of the bay was determined spatially and temporally from the recent surface to depth. The results were correlated with the composition and diversity of the benthic foraminiferal assemblages. Major element concentrations indicate natural lithogenic origin (which is also confirmed by mineralogical features). The benthic foraminiferal assemblages in sediment samples, although mainly composed of representatives of the Rotaliida, show moderate to high species diversity and are dominated by the pollution tolerant species

Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) on foraminiferal species and trace element concentrations shows a possible control of some potential toxic elements (i.e., Cu, Ni, Pb, Zr, Cr, As) on the diversity and taxonomic composition of foraminiferal assemblages. Nevertheless, foraminiferal diversity and dominance in the bay are related to sediment characteristics such as sediment grain size, and the amount of terrigenous inflow rather than to the element concentrations of sediments. This study evaluated ecological conditions by using the Foram-AMBi and EcoQS indices. The values of the Foram-AMBI index reflect the good to moderate quality of ecological conditions, whereas high to poor ecological statuses were interpreted by calculating EcoQS.
Road congestion caused by port activities is a well-known problem that is often highlighted by local communities as one of the main negative issues related to port operations. Studies also show that ...road congestion can affect the competitive position of ports. The problem can be tackled in a number of ways. The paper is divided into two parts. In the first part of the paper, the authors analyse the literature on the effectiveness of various procedures and upgrades at the port gates that can improve the gate turnaround times. The second part is a case study. In the second part of the paper, the authors quantify the current negative impacts of port-related road congestion and the benefits of introducing selected measures at the gates of the port of Koper. Isolation of single best measure is impossible due to simultaneous introduction of measures.
Članek je podrobna analiza nagrobnih stel Decima Fulvija Doroteja v Kopru in Pole Orcivije v Mestnem muzeju starožitnosti »J. J. Winckelmann« v Trstu. Analizirani so motivi stel in z epigrafskega ...vidika je obrazložen pomen grškega napisa na reliefih. Izpostavljene so konkretne teorije izvora stel in upodobljencev,ter krajše obnovitve preteklih raziskav. Po Marie-Thérèse Le Dinahet-Couilloud nagrobna stela v Kopru izvira z grškega otoka Reneja, deloške nekropole, kar je razvidno že iz primerjave s številnimi stelami z Reneje, ki imajo enake značilnosti, tako slogovne kot epigrafske. Zato članek zagovarja tudi domnevo o steli Pole Orcivije v Trstu, ki bi tudi lahko izvirala z Reneje, in na podlagi primerjav izpostavlja teorijo njenega izvora kot precej verjetno.

In late 2013, Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) conducted the first randomized experiment ever to test a hot spots patrol strategy (HSPS) across large areas, as distinct from testing extra ...patrols one hot spot at a time. The HSPS experiment required, and helped to refine, a formal theory of both the causes and effects of directed patrols in hot spots. This article presents an integrated theory of how to implement an HSPS in ways that maximize the preventive effects of patrol on crime. It then describes the HSPS experimental protocol used to test the theory in Trinidad. The key elements of HSPS are scaling up from specific hot spot locations to a district-wide focus on all its hot spots and feeding back to the constables who provide hot spots patrols data on what they have done and with what effect—presented every 2 weeks, at a district-level “COP-stat” meeting with the people actually doing the patrols.
W trzyletnim doświadczeniu przeprowadzonym w latach 2001–2003 badano zawartość olejku eterycznego oraz garbników w owocach (nasionach) kilku odmian kopru ogrodowego, uprawianego w warunkach polowych. ...Nasiona wysiewano wprost do gruntu w trzeciej dekadzie kwietnia, natomiast zbiór na surowiec wykonywano, gdy baldachy pierwszego i drugiego rzędu zaczynały lekko brązowieć, tak aby nie dopuścić do ich osypywania, i dosuszano w warunkach naturalnych. Po zbiorze wyliczano plon owoców, który wynosił dla poszczególnych odmian od 0,99 do 1,07 t·ha–1. Zaobserwowano istotne różnice w zawartości zarówno olejku eterycznego, jak i garbników w owocach badanych odmian kopru w kolejnych latach badań.
The port cities of Trieste, Rijeka, and Koper all lie in the northern Adriatic, although in three different countries: Italy, Croatia, and Slovenia. The greatest advantage of this port city region is ...its geostrategic location: it connects Western Europe with the Danube region, the Balkans, Eastern Europe, and Asia Minor. This location is also the greatest threat to the region’s stability, for countries, cities, and ports are always struggling for political and economic dominance. This article first defines approaches to urban resilience and various forms of capacity and vulnerability. It then identifies the key factors in the three cities’ resilience or lack of it over two thousand years. Finally, it shows how these notions are visible in the more recent past and present of each port city.
Vergerijane (Le vergeriane), objavljene leto po begu škofa Petra Pavla Vergerija v Švico, predstavijo korespondenco Girolama Muzia z Vergerijem v triletnem obdobju, in sicer med letoma 1546 in 1549. ...O prvih obtožbah krivoverstva je Muzio koprskega prijatelja iz otroštva obvestil januarja 1546. Muzio v svojih pismih večkrat pozove Vergerija, naj se vrne na pravo pot katoliškega nauka in s tem popravi svoje grehe, saj bi lahko Vergerijeve ideje o reformaciji negativno vplivale na koprske meščane. Muzio je z močno podporo koprskega tabora Ottonellu Vidi napisal kar sedem pisem, pet mestu Koper, tri bratrancu Marcu Nuziju in eno redovnicam v Kopru. Skupna točka teh pisem je bila kritika škofovega stališča v odnosu do papeštva, koncepta svobodne volje, zakramentov, Svetega pisma in kulta svetnikov. Muzievi kampanji proti Vergeriju, da bi prišlo do njegove odstranitve iz škofovske službe in preprečitve nevarnega prozelitizma, so se pridružile tudi druge pomembne osebnosti: Antonio Elio, pater Pietro di Giovanni, Vincenzo Fedeli, Giovanni Della Casa, Annibale Grisoni in Tommaso Stella. V prispevku je poudarek na vlogi enega najvplivnejših italijanskih kardinalov 16. stoletja – Alessandru Farneseju, ki je iz ozadja načrtno krmilil Vergerijev pregon.
The purpose of this research is the further development of the methodology and methods of optimising the parameters of root pile combined cleaners of a root crop harvesting machine. We have conducted ...theoretical and experimental studies of the combined cleaning system’s functioning process. By executing the analysis, we found the motion of the fodder beet through the working surfaces of the feeding conveyor and the auger installed above it. We have got an analytical and empirical process model for the fodder beet’s oblique sub-hit on the auger turn. It characterises the dependence of the total rate of the sub-hit coefficient of the technological interaction of the roots and the depth of the root damage, which depend on the main parameters of the combined cleaning system. We found out the rational limits of the basic structural and kinematic parameters of the combined cleaning system by the provided minimum fodder beet damage. It is theoretically justified that the minimum damage to roots of the beet roots will be at a contact angle of zero (γ ≅ 0) or close to it. This condition is protected with the following combinations of parameters: a screw diameter of D = 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 m and a screw speed of n = 99, 72, 50 rpm, respectively.
Slovenski svećenici imaju važnu ulogu u hrvatskoj povijesti, a njihov se utjecaj prvenstveno vidi u pograničnim prostorima današnje slovensko-hrvatske granice. Promatra li se povijest Liburnije, pa i ...šire, Kvarnera i hrvatske Istre, vidi se da su oni na tim područjima bili prisutni stoljećima, a da se njihov rad uglavnom temeljio na poboljšanju duhovnog i materijalnog života njihovih vjernika i župa u kojima su djelovali. Upravo je cilj ovog rada evidentirati pojedince koji su podrijetlom iz slovenskih krajeva, a djelovali su u hrvatskim krajevima te prikazati njihovo djelovanje u župama priobalnog područja Liburnije. Dosad se o toj temi pisalo parcijalno i ne postoje članci koji obuhvaćaju veći broj pojedinaca koji su djelovali na promatranom geografskom prostoru. Rad se temelji na postojećoj znanstvenoj i stručnoj literaturi, ali se poseglo i za sekundarnim tiskanim izvorima.
Slovenian priests have an important role in Croatian history; their influence can primarily be observed in the border areas of todayʼs Slovenian and Croatian border. If we look at the history of Liburnia, and, on a broader scale, of Kvarner and Croatian Istria, it can be observed that they were present in these areas for centuries, and that their work was mainly based on improving the spiritual and material life of their congregation and parishes in which they worked. The aim of this paper is to record individuals originating from Slovenian areas who worked in Croatian areas, and to present their work in the parishes of the coastal area of Liburnia. So far only some aspects of the topic have been observed, and there are no articles that present a large number of individuals that worked in the observed geographical area. This paper is based on the available scientific and professional literature, as well as on the secondary printed sources.

Cruise passengers’ expenditures in the city ports are an important economic incentive for local tourism and related industry sectors. A complex evaluation of the volume and structure of cruise ...passengers’ expenditures contributes to further development of the tourism and travel-related services, generates an increase of cruise passengers’ expenditures and enriches the cruise tourist industry as a whole. This theoretically and practically studied topic is of crucial importance for the further adequate development of the cruise port tourist services supply, which serves to the overall satisfaction of the cruise passengers. This article focuses on cruise passengers’ expenditures in the Port of Koper. The results highlight that gender, nationality, experience regarding the transport services and motives for disembark have statistically significant effect on cruise passenger expenditures.
