Although plesiosaurs and mosasaurs co-existed for about 35 million years at the end of the Cretaceous, the fossil record documenting interactions between these two groups of marine reptiles is ...meagre. The discovery of deeply incised scars on a limb bone of an immature polycotylid plesiosaur from the latest early Campanian (in the European two-fold division of the Campanian Stage) of the Kristianstad Basin, southern Sweden, is thus significant because it represents a rare example of predation or scavenging on an immature polycotylid plesiosaur by a large mosasaur.
Semi-automated manual interactive colorization tasks aim to efficiently overcome the issue of color bleeding, which is mainly addressed by edge constraints in recent works. For example, Photoshop ...takes local colorization with manually annotated selection regions. However, the approach requires very precise edges thus it requires experienced professionals and costs an amount of time. To ease the processing process, we conduct a Krita plugin namely 'EasyColor' for more convenient interactive colorization. Specifically, EasyColor is built on the Krita software and incorporates our specially developed algorithm. Users only need to roughly select an area around the color bleeding and paint color strokes. The algorithm automatically can recognize the edges within the selected area and utilizes the strokes to reapply colors to the entities within the selection. This allows users to quickly rectify images affected by color bleeding. This article primarily introduces the EasyColor plugin.
Integrated biostratigraphy and palaeogeographical interpretations of Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous (Callovian-Berriasian) successions are synthesised on the basis of published data and our recent ...investigations of key sections from the "Tunisian Dorasale" (TD) and "Tunisian Trough" (TT) domains of northern Tunisia. After a revised biostratigraphy had been proposed for the "rosso ammonitico" series, bed-by-bed sampling led to a radiolarian-based first direct dating of the partly coeval biosiliceous series in the TT. Upward within the Jurassic column, an integrated biostratigraphy (ammonites, calpionellids and associated biomicrofacies) allowed precise biozonation for the Kimmeridgian-middle Berriasian interval. The heterogeneity of the Late Jurassic facies in northern Tunisia is the result of two main geodynamical and palaeogeographical events. The first corresponds to the fragmentation of the initial Early Jurassic platform linked to Tethyan rifting. The second event, coeval to the radiolarian-bearing series of the TT, is expressed by a significant deepening in north-west Tunisian palaeoenvironments. During Kimmeridgian-Tithonian times, previous troughs evolved back into carbonate platforms. Within the Maghrebian Belt, Upper Jurassic-lowermost Cretaceous series comprising three major facies groups are easily correlated; minor differences in age are interpreted as due to local tectonic control. Regional correlations confirm, on the one hand, a common geological history for the external segments of the African margin and, on the other hand, a distinct palaeogeographical evolution of the inner domain including the "Dorsales calcaires" and ancient massifs, both being separated by intermediate flysch zone segments.
Remains of late Campanian and earliest Maastrichtian mosasaurs from southern Sweden are illustrated and briefly described. Plioplatecarpus sp. and Prognathodon sp. have been identified from strata of ...middle late Campanian age, while earliest Maastrichtian deposits contain remains of Mosasaurus cf. lemonnieri and Plioplatecarpus cf. primaevus. Available data suggest that the mosasaur group increased steadily in diversity from the late Coniacian until close to the early/late Campanian boundary, at which a seemingly catastrophic event severely reduced the number of species in, at least, North America and northern Europe. The extinction favoured a radiation of more derived mosasaur taxa which persisted until the end of the Maastrichtian Stage. Although the mechanism responsible for this profound mid-Campanian mosasaur faunal turnover remains unknown, it is clear that the marine reorganization affected markedly different and widely separated environments.
Lowermost Cretaceous (Berriasian) strata of the Skyttegård Member (Rabekke Formation, Nyker Group) on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, have yielded a diverse terrestrial micro-vertebrate fauna. The ...assemblage is unique in several aspects, including e.g. the first Mesozoic mammal from Scandinavia. Here, we describe the mammal fossil, identified as a multituberculate upper premolar. The tooth is tentatively assigned to the monospecific genus Sunnyodon, as it shares the largest number of diagnostic dental features with the approximately coeval S. notleyi from the Purbeck Limestone Formation in southernmost England.
