This paper analyses and compares statutory provisions on tutelage for minor children in the Venetian towns of Koper, Izola, and Piran, and compares them with the regulation of the town of Ptuj, which ...was part of the Holy Roman Empire. It draws on selected notations from the notary books of Piran and, indirectly, documentary sources from Ptuj that reflect the practice corroborating and illustrating findings concerning statutory law. Moreover, from a comparative perspective, the paper aims to establish how Roman law influenced the legal regulation of the care of minor children in the two neighbouring territories that differed in terms of tradition and administrative affiliation.

The present study aimed to establish potential indicators of fish farming pollution in muddy substrate, by means of meiofauna, and to test whether the effect of the fish farm is more important to ...determine the meiofauna community than the seasonal environmental conditions. Sampling was performed in spring, after several months of light feeding, and in summer, at high food supply. Samples were collected in three directions at various distances from the floating cages. Harpacticoid copepods and kinorhynchs, whose abundance decreased under the cages, were put forward as indicator taxa. However, harpacticoid copepods were sensitive to fish farm only, while kinorhynchs showed responsiveness to fish farm and to seasonal environmental conditions. Total meiofauna density was dependent on season sensu stricto. The nMDS clearly showed a ‘cage community’ and ‘control community’ in both sampling occasions; therefore it is a good tool for impact assessment.
This paper explores ethnic, cultural and symbolic boundaries in a micro-region within the Mediterranean area of Istria, which is conceptualised as a multicultural, multi-ethnic and multilingual ...region. In scholarly writings and everyday speech, it is seen as a border zone where people construct multiple pure and hybrid identities. In this paper, I intend to explore some of the geographic, historical, political, and anthropological discourses that are present in the fieldwork location of Istria and North East Adriatic Sea as well as address the issue of national land and maritime borders and ethnic boundaries. I will focus on the border issues in the periods of political and ideological changes after World War II and after 1991, in the wake of the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the creation of Slovenia and Croatia as new post-socialist states. Particular focus will be on the issue of international arbitrage on the maritime and land border in 2017.

The coinage of the Sasanian Empire (224-651 CE) is not only the most important primary source for its monetary and economic history, but also of greatest relevance for its history and art ...history.Coin hoards are of pivotal importance for studying Sasanian coinage. On August 29,2007,two jars were unearthed during the construction work for the new border sentry post of “Havār-Barxāh-loh” in the Piran-Shahr region (close to the frontier village of Tamar-Chin, about 35 kilometres away from Piran-Shahr).The work was carried out by military personnel belonging to the frontier guard’s regiment. The jars contained altogether 1267 Sasanian silver coins, mostly from the Khusro II (590–628) period. Also numerous drachms of Khusro I (531–578) and Ohrmazd IV (578–590) were present, as well as a few late pieces of Ohrmazd VI, Queen Azarmigdukht, and one early Arab-Sasanian drachm.
Thirty years ago, the Russian historian L. S. Klejn proposed that the legendary Chechen and Ingush character Pira or Pirow was borrowed during the Middle Ages by the local population from the Russian ...mythology, through a contingent of Eastern Slavs deported there by the caliph Mervan II. Thus, Pira or Pirow would be the old Slavic god Perun. I will propose here an alternative source to this legendary figure, an Iranian source. A hero named Piran indeed appears in the Shahnameh, Ferdowsi’s epic dating from the tenth century. That hero, like Pira or Pirow, is able, through an intermediary, to make rain and lightning. In fact, the name Piran seems to have an etymology close to that of the god Perun.
The subject of this publication is a critical edition of the preserved parts of the eleventh, twelfth, fourteenth, and sixteenth notary books from the Piran Branch Office of the Regional Archives of ...Koper. With notary books we are not dealing with literary readings, but with abstracts of a mass of business manuscript agreements of various contents. The fragments contain the models of documents created in the period 1301–1320 (1321). The writer of summaries in the preserved fragments of notary fascicle No. 11 was Almericus, while the notary Perinus Appolonii kept records of business transactions in codex No. 15. The writers of other fragments are not known.
