The article describes the correspondence legacy of Countess Ksawera Grocholska (1807–1872) found by the author in domestic and foreign archives. Grocholska belonged to the Polish landed gentry, and ...was a philanthropist, amateur artist, and owner of the Kniazhe estate in the Jampol county in Podolia. Grocholska’s extensive and dispersed letters were found in the collections of several archives and libraries throughout Europe. They are both her private letters and those written to the Russian authorities on issues related to issuing a passport for trips abroad, the marriage of the eldest daughter, Maria Czartoryska, née Grocholska, and the charity work carried out by Grocholska from the time of the Konarski conspiracy. These letters have been discussed in the literature for the first time as they have not been the research subject yet. In the essay, a problem-based system was adopted when describing the legacy, dividing the discovered letters into three basic categories: family and private letters, those concerning aid activities, and official writings. In each of these subgroups, chronological order has been adopted.
The aim of the article is to present three individual world views of Cyprian Norwid, Joseph Conrad, and Andrzej Trzebiński. It is not without significance that each of the individualities mentioned ...here represents a specific artistic vision of the world, which acquires its idiomatic writing articulation, and with it – a peculiar literary study. Assuming that literature remains the richest and most comprehensive expression of a view of the world (among the available forms of expression), one should nevertheless be careful in describing a specific, literary vision of the world, because it – made available by literary means of expression and literary tools – will always undergo specific poetic and creative transformations, all the way to the limits of exaggeration or deformation.
The article discusses Hanna Szumańska-Grossowa’s reminiscences about Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, their personal contacts, the poet’s musical taste, and his alcohol addiction.
The following article is closely connected with the time category explained on the example of contemporary Russian literature. On the one hand, the writers “complete” the past when the censorship ...prohibited the publication of books inconsistent with the politics of communist party. On the other hand, they show possibilities of art development in the future. The symbols immortalizing time are said to be values dealing with Religion and Art, understood widely as literature, music, painting, photography… It thus appears that pieces of art are often the best documents. Religion and art connect generations who hand down beauty, good and truth to their descendants, using different achievements of culture and civilization. In this way, time becomes one of the most valuable existential values.
This article aims to present the image of the Silesian women emerging from the novels by Anna Dziewit-Meller (Góra Tajget Mount Taygetus, Od jednego Lucypera All Because of One Lucifer). The analysis ...and interpretation focused on the category of silence inscribed in the studied text allow the author to draw conclusions about the complicated family relationships of women, marked by the twentieth-century history of Upper Silesia. In the article, the author posits a thesis about silence as an immanent trait of Dziewit-Meller’s protagonists, and asks whether they have a chance of breaking out of the circle of traumas passed down in their families.
