Władysław Reymont (1867–1925) won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1924; praised for his unique insight into peasants’ life, realism and positivistic vibe, he is rarely considered an author ...interested in esoteric currents. A period of his travel as a medium, his attendance at the congress of The Theosophical Society in England, were marginalized and shown as unimportant events during his troubled life. The analysis of the author’s own statements, and tracing esoteric-related motifs in his works, show that Reymont’s own views of his works, and esotericism itself, were quite different. It is not the first time that the biography and intentions of the author tell a different story than contemporary textbooks. The paper traces Reymont’s fascinations in Eastern thought, Theosophical current, and Spiritualistic experiments, which were reflected in his works.
The goal of the paper’s author is to identify the references to contemporary social reality that can be found in Schulz’s fiction. One of the reasons for which such an effort seems to make sense is ...the writer’s decision to join the Literary Collective “Przedmieście.” The author compares Schulz’s poetics and some motifs of his fiction with the program of that particular group of writers. She also analyzes the representations of social change in such stories as “Spring,” “The Street of Crocodiles,” and the cycle “Treatise on Tailor’s Dummies.” The most important to her are the cultural, political, and economic aspects of those representations. Besides, she points to some analogies between Schulz’s diagnoses and those presented by Oswald Spengler in "The Decline of the West".
Autorka bada kontekst i cele recepcji, następnie skrótowo przedstawia odbiór twórczości czterech autorów: dwóch klasyków dwudziestowiecznych (Czesław Miłosz i Witold Gombrowicz) oraz dwoje współczesnych pisarzy (Olga Tokarczuk i Andrzej Stasiuk). Następnie pokrótce omawia przeciwstawne przypadki odbioru dwóch gatunków (dramat, literatura faktu). Wreszcie mówi o potrzebie ponownego tłumaczenia klasyków XIX wieku.
This paper presents the assumptions of linguistic poetics, a direction that combines – in a curricular manner – the research on poetry and interpretation of poetic works with an analysis of language ...uses in a statement. It presents the role played by M.R. Mayenowa in shaping this stream in the Polish literary studies seeking support in linguistics and enumerates the most significant curricular studies and linguistic concepts employed in analyses of the represented world of poetry as “the world behind words”. The enclosed analysis of the lyric by Urszula Kozioł Jest mi miałko... (I’m feeling bland...) is an illustration of the methodology presented here. It shows the sense-creative capabilities of language activated in a description of an unusual state of the lyrical I of the poem–confession, who is experiencing elusive feelings that are hard to express. The whole complex organisation of the poetic statement serves the purpose of outlining these unique experiences and the evoked senses can be reached only through an in-depth analysis of the language uses in the text.

Escape Into Straddleness. On the Experience of Social Advancement in the Dissimilation Mode in the Novel Majdan by Marian Pilot
The article sets out to investigate the experience of social advancement in the dissimilation mode, which is contrary to the assimilation. The process of becoming non-identical and affirming one’s distinctiveness is examined in reference to the novel Majdan by Marian Pilot, one of the authors of the so-called peasant current in the Polish literature. The term “rozkraczność” (“straddle-ness”) taken from Pilot’s prose is used to describe the condition of a displaced subject as persistence in a state of ambivalence between heteronomy and autonomy.
