This article returns to Marxist commentaries during a previous period characterized by profound contradictions and conflict-especially the writings of Nicos Poulantzas and Stuart Hall on ...authoritarian statism/populism from the late 1970s to the 1980s-in order to make sense of the present era. The article argues that we are witnessing the rise of authoritarian neoliberalism, which is rooted in the reconfiguring of the state into a less democratic entity through constitutional and legal changes that seek to insulate it from social and political conflict. The apparent strengthening of the state simultaneously entails its growing fragility, for it is becoming an increasingly direct target of a range of popular struggles, demands, and discontent by way of the pressures emanating from this strengthening. A primary reference point for the article is a notable casualty of the post-2007 crisis, European social democracy, but the implications for radical politics more broadly are also considered.

The aviation industry is facing highly volatile developments in the recent years: Following a steady growth phase with prosperous projections, the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the aviation system rather ...hard. While having gradually entered a recovery process in the years 2021 and 2022, with load factors close to those in the year 2019, the airspace bans between Russia, Europe, and other regions in the world, as part of the ongoing conflict centered around Russia and Ukraine, threaten the orderly operation of flights. This study explores the byproducts and potential impact of airspace bans on the aviation system and its stakeholders, by deriving a ranking of country importance and how they have the potential to influence our aviation system. While being rooted in the analysis of the Russian–Ukrainian conflict, our framework is built up in a generic way and computes an overall country importance metric. We believe that our study contributes to the better understanding of the consequences airspace bans have on our society and the severe needs for effective policies and regulations of such emerging forms of conflict resolution.
•Extensive airspace bans are implemented since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.•A country ranking is derived for measuring impacts of airspace closures.•An econometric model is proposed which analyzes the drivers behind importance.•The country’s area, departures, HDI value, and location are identified as drivers.•Policymakers need to derive strategies to deal with uncooperative stakeholders.
This study was undertaken to analyze and ascertain several aspects of the coverage of issues of political conflict covered by the weblog, Nairaland, as well as gauge the level of civic engagement on ...the part of Nairaland users. The method used by the researchers was content analysis and four research questions were raised and answered to ascertain certain aspects of the coverage of issues of political conflict as well as the level of participation of the audience which consisted of Nairaland users. The results found that issues of political conflict were prominently placed, usually on the front page of Nairaland. It was also observed that the subject matter with the highest amount of coverage, as well as participation, was the conduct, comportment, and activities of elected political officials in Nigeria. Furthermore, the level of civic engagement was affected by the prominence given by the moderators of the Nairaland blog site to the stories that were published and this was measured by examining the number of views in relation to the prominence of the stories published. The study recommends that prominence be given to other aspects of Nigerian society as opposed to focusing inordinately on political officials. The study also suggests that inasmuch as misdemeanors, misappropriations, and questionable activities must be addressed by the media, it is equally important to acknowledge and commend the activities and events that are undertaken or embarked on to engender social change and development in Nigerian society.
“Resource curse hypothesis” has been extensively pondered in extant literature. However, less attention has been given to political risks and financial development (FD) in the Middle East and North ...African countries (MENA). Hence, this current study explores the role of internal and external conflicts in realizing the impact of natural resources on FD (Resource Curse) based on the foundations of resource endowment theory from 1990 to 2021. We test whether the resource curse hypothesis is effective for MENA nations during internal and external conflicts. The outcomes of moments quantile regression (MMQR) show that this study negates the resource curse hypothesis (NRC) because NRR supports FD in MENA countries. Internal and external conflicts impede FD; however, external conflicts show a stronger magnitude. When countries face internal and external conflicts, the resource blessing hypothesis does not hold anymore; rather, it becomes a resource curse. The negative sign of interaction terms of the NRR and internal and external conflicts capture this notion. Lastly, technological innovation facilitates FD. These conclusions are indispensable for conflict resolution and financial policies across conflict-prone and resource curse nations.
•MMQR Applied to explore asymmetric behaviors of regressors between 1990 and 2021.•Financial development (FD) induced Resource curse hypothesis is confirmed for MENA region.•Internal and external conflicts impede FD.•Technology innovation facilitate higher FD.•Internal and external conflict exaggerate the negative impact of natural resources on FD.
This study aims to clarify the influence of the revolutionary movement on the evolution of Constitutional consciousness, and also to diagnose the "new social groups" interested in the constitutional ...process. The process of establishing the January 2014 Constitution in Tunisia is significant for at least two reasons: on the one hand, it is the first constitution resulting from the revolutionary movement in the region. On the other hand, since it generated controversies, which transcended the limits of the National Constituent Assembly. Indeed, we have seen the commitment of large popular masses, until now, far removed from political participation in general and constitutional issues in particular. In this context, we saw the emergence of a populist discourse, adopted by many political and partisan forces and where the constitutional debate was instrumentalized for political mobilization. Constitutional articles related to the relationship between religion and the state, as well as, the question of equality between women and men represented the circle of debate within the National Constituent Assembly and especially outside it. These public debates dominated by the populist character and the simplistic analyzes have certainly popularized the constitutional culture, but also to the deterioration of the political consciousness.
The southern Libyan cities (Ghat, Murzuq, and Al-Kufra) played their
political, economic, and social role in Libyan relations with neighbouring
countries during various historical phases. These ...cities paved the way for

the political, economic and social impacts on Saharan cities, but also their
effects between the northern African region and southern Libya towards
African Sub-Saharan region. Additionally, it is important to explain the

of temporary transit and settlement areas and crossing north to Europe and
studying the impact of instability and insecurity after 2011 in the tribal

Morality policies generally refer to issues in which political conflicts are shaped by debates over first principle; i.e., value conflicts are more important than instrumental considerations of ...policy design. Yet there is still a remarkable lack of scholarly attention on morality policies, in particular with regard to general implications for the study of public policy. To stimulate further research in this area, the article discusses different concepts of morality policy and suggests a distinction between different morality policy types. Moreover, distinctive features of morality policy content and effects are discussed. The article concludes with sketching out promising areas of future research in this field of inquiry.
