Technology is continuously developing, especially in mapping and information technology. Geographic Information System (GIS) is a system used to collect, store, analyze, and display geographic data. ...Geographic data is information about location or geography, such as maps, satellite imagery, digital elevation models, or data associated with a particular location. This study aims to produce a web-based GIS map by visualizing spatial data containing each room's location, parking area, and landscape in the Manado State Polytechnic campus area. The method used in this study was to collect location data using a Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (SUAV) to take aerial photos, Ground Control Point (GCP), and tagging photos. Data processing uses Agisoft Metashape Software to combine all aerial photographs to become an exclusive photo and ArcGIS for programming. The result is creating a digital map that makes it easy for users to get the position of buildings with a visual display along with the information contained therein.
This research aims at exploring and analyzing the history of the Polytechnic Institute from its establishment in 1963 to its transformation as the Faculty of Engineering in 2000. The study is mainly ...based on the consultation of priceless archival documents kept in the record office of the former Polytechnic Institute (now Bahir Dar Institute of Technology). In addition, attempts have been made to substantiate archival sources by gathering oral evidence from pertinent people including the first graduates of the Polytechnic Institute. The information gathered from archival documents (letters, reports, graduation bulletins, newspapers, etc.) and interviews has been carefully examined, cross-checked, interpreted, and analyzed to reconstruct the history of the institute. The findings of the study show that the Polytechnic Institute was the result of the Cold War rivalry between the two superpowers, the United States and the former Soviet Union. When the U.S. government turned down his request for increased military assistance, Emperor Haile Selassie paid an official visit to Moscow in 1959. Among other things, the Soviet government offered financial assistance that led to the establishment of the Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute in 1963. The Soviet government also supported the institute by assigning technical advisers and instructors, whose number grew substantially after the 1974 revolution. The ideological solidarity between the two countries brought more scholarship opportunities to the students and instructors of the Institute. In 2000, the union of the Polytechnic Institute and Bahir Dar Teachers College gave rise to the birth of Bahir University. In the last sixty years, the Institute has produced world-class technologists.
In learning English, it is clearly seen that students have their own ways and abilities to understand information or learning materials. The method used by students in understanding the information ...is generally known as learning style. This study aims to identify the dominant learning style used by students in learning English at civil engineering class. This study was survey research. There are two types of learning styles studied. First, it can be seen from the perceptual aspect which has 3 types of learning styles, namely visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Second, learning styles are seen from the social aspect which consists of 2 types, namely groups and individuals. The participants in this study were 248 students briefly divided into 9 classes. In determining the participants, the researcher precisely used a total sampling technique. Furthermore, the researcher used a questionnaire as an instrument to obtain data. The results of the study strongly showed that students used all learning styles, namely visual, auditory, kinesthetic, group, and individual. Based on the data obtained and analyzed, the highest percentage of learning styles for the perceptual aspect is visual with a total percentage of 45.5%. Then, for the social aspect, which gained a percentage of 44.3%. Based on the data obtained in this study, it can be concluded that the learning style of civil engineering students is more dominant using the perceptual learning style compared to the social learning style, and this can be seen from the data presented in this study.
The unemployability of many Nigerian graduates is somewhat attributable to the existing wide collaboration gap between Nigerian higher education institutions and industry. Against this backdrop, this ...study explores how Nigerian polytechnics and industry can collaborate to enhance graduates’ employability. Adopting a focus group discussion approach, three focus groups involving 20 people (eight polytechnic lecturers, six National Board for Technical Education officials and six industry executives) participated in the study. Content analysis of the focus group discussions revealed the need to involve industry experts in curriculum development and review to meet today’s job requirements in industry. The need to involve industry experts in teaching certain aspects of the curriculum was also highlighted. The findings further revealed the desirability of exposing students and lecturers to industrial work situations to equip them with workplace skills and experience. Additionally, the study found that a comprehensive collaboration policy framework, funding, commitment, mutual benefits and trust are required to achieve successful polytechnic–industry collaboration. This research demonstrates that effective collaboration between polytechnics and industry will help to improve the employability of graduates. The findings provide policy and practical implications for polytechnics, regulatory bodies, industry and government.
The process of doing a needs analysis becomes essential since it gives instructional designers the chance to create learning materials that will actually benefit the target audiences. The present ...study aimed at scrutinizing the students’ needs to develop an English course for agriculture students in Indonesian vocational higher education or polytechnic. The researchers try to bring novelty in the present study by considering CEFR framework as a standard for describing and determining the level of ability or proficiency. Convergent parallel mixed methods design was employed in the current study. The data were obtained from questionnaires, interviews and focused group discussion. The questionnaire was distributed to the agriculture department students, employing a stratified random sampling method. In addition, the interview and focused group discussion were done with the coordinators of study program, the Head of Quality Assurance, lecturers who taught Intermediate English Course, and industry partners as well. The data collected from questionnaires, interview, and focused group discussion were then analyzed using side-by-side comparison. The results disclosed that the language skill considered the most important for the agriculture department students is speaking skill since it has a great impact on students’ academic, social and professional development. In other words, the agriculture department students require a learning process that emphasizes practice over theory. Furthermore, to make classroom activities more exciting, they desire the learning process that is blended with games. As a result, this study also provides implications for course designers to develop English materials that reflect comprehensive needs of the students.
