The stable isotopic composition of oxygen and hydrogen (δ18O and δ2H) and the tritium activity (A) were monitored in precipitation at synoptic station Portorož (Slovenia) during the period 2007–2010. ...Monthly and yearly isotope variations are discussed and compared with those observed over the period 2001–2006 and with the basic meteorological parameters. The mean values for δ18O and δ2H, weighted by precipitation, are –6.28 ‰ and –41.6 ‰, and these values are 0.35 ‰ and 1.6 ‰ higher but not signifiantly different than for the period 2001–2006. The reduced major axis (RMA) local meteoric water line (LMWLRMA) for the period 2007–2010 is δ2H = (8.14 ± 0.25)×δ18O + (8.28 ± 1.64), while the precipitation weighted least square regression (PWLSR) results in LMWLPWLSR δ2H = (7.87 ± 0.28)×δ18O + (7.97 ± 1.87). The deuterium excess (δ) weighted mean value is 8.6 ‰ and is 1.2 ‰ lower than in 2001–2006, while the temperature coeffiient of δ18O is 0.21 ‰/°C and is for 0.02 ‰/°C higher than for the previous period. The mean Mediterranean precipitation index (MI) for the period 2007–2010 is 2.3. Lower values of MI and deuterium excess than in the preceding period indicate stronger continental climatic character during observation period, however the differences are not statistically signifiant. The weighted mean tritium activity is 6.4 TU, which is 0.5 TU lower but not signifiantly different than in 2001–2006.
Corporate social responsibility has been widely researched in recent decades across different industries. This paper attempts to explore the social aspects of corporate social responsibility in the ...hotel industry, focusing on the awareness of csr of employees in the selected case-study of a hotel company in Portorož, Slovenia. Specifically, their awareness of csr activities oriented towards the local community was researched. A questionnaire survey was conducted among employees, investigating their awareness of the hotel company’s attitude towards the local community. Results show that it is crucial for employees to be employed in a company that participates in the development of a local community. However, they often do not know how their employer carries out activities that are related to the social aspects of corporate social responsibility.
This article is dedicated to presenting nautical tourism in Slovenia. The basic purpose is to evaluate the extent of nautical tourism, since data on this type of tourism in Slovenia are lacking. ...Slovenia has three marinas, a few moorings and a passenger terminal. Despite its small coastal strip (46 km), all forms of nautical tourism are represented. This article consists of theoretical and analytical work. The theoretical part presents a number of basic definitions relating to nautical tourism and cruises. This work will also present the development of this form of tourism in Slovenia to date. Slovenia’s first marina was built in 1979 in Portorož, while cruise tourism in Slovenia began later, in 2005. Due to its diversity in a small area, Slovenia is an ideal starting point for (maritime) excursions. In the analytical part, numerical traffic data for the period 2005 to 2015 from marinas and the Port of Koper have been collated and analysed. This work is based on data collected by the marinas themselves, since the official nautical traffic statistics are not recorded. The main results of our analysis indicate that nautical tourism in Slovenia has experienced a large decline since 2005. The exception is cruise tourism, which has shown strong growth.
The main goal of this paper is to assess the competitiveness of the two coastal tourist (micro) destinations - Portorož, Slovenia and Opatija, Croatia. The paper focuses on the current state of ...competitiveness of these two destinations, assessed by group of senior tourist students that visited both destinations. The approach and methodology are based on the different destination competitiveness models. For the purpose of the assessment of competitiveness of these two micro destinations, the integrated instrument of the destination competitiveness was developed and tested for its face validity. These two destinations were chosen because they have a similar history of development as well as tourist offer. The research results confirm the main hypothesis and majority of supporting hypothesis that Portoroz is more competitive destination than Opatija.
The planning proposals of the international urbanistic workshop Mobile cultures: development possibilities for tourism in the Piran municipality, can be grouped on three levels: conceptual, strategic ...and project oriented. Definitions of issues of particular workshop areas and pertaining solutions largely overlap with those in the project Portorož 220/2025: project of visions and strategic development of the leading Slovenian tourism centre, carried out in year 2000 by the International institute for tourism. The common general finding is that strategic public investments, despite initiatives by cities and the state, are still lagging behind in development and execution. The projects and their success in goal oriented planned development of tourism in the Piran municipality are above all dependent on grounded and timely strategic public investments.
