The goal of this volume is to present the wide variety of ...research findings on geographical information systems in Slovenia in recent years. Powerful geoinformatic tools and precise digital data facilitate research on processes and phenomena with a high level of accuracy. This makes it possible to affirm that the landscape and its components are being analyzed in high resolution. The volume clearly presents project outputs and research results in areas such as seismology, geomorphology, natural hazards, environmental protection, geography, surveying, archaeology, transport, agriculture, remote sensing, and others. Readers will discover new features regarding the applicability of geographical information systems and will learn about interesting findings in many area
The monograph is a translated and complemented edition of the book Airborne laser scanning raster data visualization: A Guide to Good Practice. It provides an insight into a range of visualization ...techniques for high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs). It is provided in the context of investigation and interpretation of various types of historical and modern, cultural and natural small-scale relief features and landscape structures. It also provides concise guidance for selecting the best techniques when looking at a specific type of landscape and/or looking for particular kinds of forms. The three main sections – descriptions of visualization techniques, guidance for selection of the techniques, and visualization tools – accompany examples of visualizations, exemplar archaeological and geomorphological case studies, a glossary of terms, and a list of references and recommendations for further reading. The structure facilitates people of different academic background and level of expertise to understand different visualizations, how to read them, how to manipulate the settings in a calculation, and choose the best suited for the purpose of the intended investigation.

Digitalni podatki ('Digital Data') is the thirteenth volume in the series GIS v Sloveniji (GIS in Slovenia). The goal of this volume is to present the wide variety of research findings on ...geographical information systems in Slovenia in recent years. Digital data is one of the main pillars of geographical information systems, and so this volume describes opportunities to put such data to use. Recently lidar scanning technology has increased the precision and diversity of analysis. The volume clearly presents project results and research in areas such as geography, hydrology, protection against natural disasters, archaeology, transport, settlement, remote sensing, and others. Readers will discover new features regarding GIS applicability and learn about interesting findings in these areas.
V prispevku so predstavljeni vse večji pomen kakovosti geodetskih in prostorskih podatkov, določbe o kakovosti prostorskih informacij v direktivi INSPIRE in predpisih, sprejetih na njeni podlagi, ter ...zahteve, povezane s kakovostjo prostorskih podatkov in storitev, ki jih pred slovenske ponudnike podatkov in storitev postavlja evropska zakonodaja ; This article presents the growing importance of the quality of geodetic and spatial information. It describes the contents related to the data quality in the INSPIRE Directive, regulations for its implementation and guidelines, as well as the requirements related to the quality of spatial data and services set for Slovenian suppliers of data by European legislation.
Sports facilities are built objects and outdoor surfaces in the built environment, with significant impacts and effects on society, economy and environment. High-quality sports facilities, their ...proper spatial distribution and accessibility are important factors in the development of sport and sports-related activities and influence the quality of life. Data on sports facilities and their spatial distribution are a measure for the quality of sports areas. They represent the basis for strategies for the development of sports facilities on local and national levels, their placement in the built environment, and support the development of other sports-related activities. This article highlights the definition of a sports facility and its importance to the built environment and society. The survey includes an analysis of spatial and other databases on sports facilities in Slovenia and an assessment of their quality. A variety of methods and procedures was used to merge and complement the existing databases of sports facilities. Indoor and outdoor sports facilities in individual municipalities are also presented.
Digitalni prostor ('Digital Space') is the twelfth volume in the series GIS v Sloveniji (GIS in Slovenia). The goal of this volume is to present the wide variety of research findings on geographical ...information systems in Slovenia in recent years. Thanks to the development of technology and a wide selection of digital data, GIS users can explore digital space from several aspects. The volume clearly presents project results and research in areas such as geography, hydrology, protection against natural disasters, history, literary studies, regulation of traffic and mobility, agriculture, archaeology, remote sensing, and the energy industry. Readers will find new features regarding GIS applicability and learn about interesting findings in these areas.
Prednosti in nekatere omejitve baz prostorskih podatkov, s poudarkom na evidenci dejanske rabe kmetijskih in gozdnih zemljišč, so prikazane na primeru prostorske analize rabe in spremembe rabe kmetijskih zemljišč z uporabo metode prehodnih matrik na območju Krajinskega parka Ljubljansko barje ; Spatial analysis in agriculture is gaining in importance, as it allows the rapid and effective spatial display of dynamic processes in agricultural areas. This is important in the preparation of spatial plans at the national and local levels and the creation of agricultural measures and legislation. High-quality spatial data and spatial information indirectly represent a fundamental basis in the planning process, in which the agricultural sector represents an important segment. This article highlights the relevance and usefulness of the Slovenian spatial databases for the case of the land cover database at the Ministry of Agriculture for the purpose of land use change analysis and spatial analysis in Slovenian agriculture. The advantages and some limitations of spatial databases, with the emphasis on the evidence of actual agricultural and forest land use, are displayed based on the analysis of actual land use and land use changes with the use of the transition matrix method, within the Ljubljansko barje landscape park.
The Slovenian Environmental Agency (SEA) has started a project entitled "Upgrading the system for monitoring and analysing the state of the water environment", which is partly financed through the ...European Cohesion Fund. The project was named "BOBER" (Better Observation for Better Environmental Response). The wider purpose of the project is to increase the capacity of the SEA to monitor, examine and forecast water cycle factors. The Flood Forecasting System (FFS) has been developed in the framework of the BOBER project. The system provides an overview over forecasts of river discharges and water levels for six days ahead. The FFS is becoming a basic operational tool for the preparation and issuing of daily hydrological forecasts and flood warnings by the Flood Forecasting Department of the SEA. To issue effective flood warnings to the general public, the Hydroalarm system has been implemented. The setup of the FFS is strongly connected to sufficient and available spatial data sources. The FFS combines different tasks; data management, model calibration, decision and management support systems, which are combined through a graphical user interface. During the project, few data sources appropriate for modelling purposes were found. Quite frequently the gathered data were available in different usable formats and needed transformation to usable forms. The discussion in the article focuses on the required data sources needed to develop flood forecasting systems and future spatial and other data requirements for the upgrading and further development of water management sector.
