The study aims to understand the distribution of groundwater quality in coastal regions from Injambakkam- Thiruvanmyiur areas, Chennai. Groundwater samples were collected from the coastal regions of ...Tamil Nadu. The objectives of the study are to determine the groundwater quality characteristics such as pH, alkalinity, electrical conductivity, chloride, hardness, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen and map the spatial distribution of groundwater quality in the study area by using open source software Quantum GIS (QGIS). The physico-chemical parameters and the quality of the water vary with space and thus mapping it with the GIS is an efficient way to draw conclusions about the study area. Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) interpolation method was used to create various raster maps which show the spatial distribution. With the present study it is found that, most of the regions in the southern part of the study area have poor to very poor quality based on the Water Quality Index (WQI).
One of the characteristics of learning geography in the 21st century is that teachers must strive to develop technology that supports learning. This study aims to discover differences in learning ...outcomes in geography learning using the ArcGIS application and the Quantum GIS application for senior high school students. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a quasi-experimental form. Determination of the sample by purposive sampling consisted of two experimental classes, with each class totaling 34 students. Students' learning outcomes were tested with a two parties t-test which previously tested data normality, data homogeneity, and the hypothesis. The results of this study show that the experimental class using the ArcGIS application has a post-test average score of 83.03 and the class using the Quantum GIS application has a post-test average score of 77.50. Therefore, there are differences in the learning outcomes of the two experimental classes, which show that using the ArcGIS application is more effective in geography learning in senior high schools than the Quantum GIS application. The results of this study can be used as material for consideration of implementing the use of innovative learning media and improving mapping skills for high school students.

This study employed QGIS to assess the groundwater potential in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of Ghana with some selected surficial factors while estimating the ...groundwater recharge from 1981 to 2021.
Among the classification algorithms tested, Random Forest (RF) yielded the highest overall accuracy with 93.63% while Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) had 90.22% and 84.73% respectively. From the AHP model, geology had the highest weight of 0.279. It was found that low potential regions comprise 229.53 km2, moderate zones comprise 1700.62 km2, high potential zones comprise 2135.04 km2, and excellent potential areas were found to be 152.14 km2. The groundwater recharge due to rainfall computed from the Chaturvedi formula indicates that an average of 2.85% of the total annual rainfall goes to groundwater recharge with a variation of ± 0.35 mm. The total recharge for 2021 was found to be 30.18 ± 0.35 mm but between 1981 and 2021 the total recharge was 1191.18 ± 0.35 mm. Also, from the soil analysis, it was found that 56.21% of the study area would allow infiltration. In conclusion, it was observed that the groundwater potential in the study area was high and can be attributed to the recharge and present surficial conditions.

In May 2019, UAV photogrammetry using drones (unmanned aircraft) was conducted to investigate the spatial distribution characteristics of the seagrass habitat in Wan Island. Wan Is. sea was divided ...into 3 geographical areas (Site A, B, C) by referring to the seagrass distribution identified by the National Coastal seagrass forest precision survey (Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, 2015), and contour lines were extracted from grid depth data. In addition, a 3-D benthic topographic map using DTM (Digital Terrain Model) was created to understand the characteristics and slope of the benthic topographic map. Through the analysis of the seagrass distribution results and the water depth results, it was confirmed that the boundary between the seagrass distribution in the outer and coastal areas converges to different water depth limits (within 10 m, and within 5 m), which is estimated to be based on the characteristics of the outer sea area. As a result of the analysis of the benthic topography, it was confirmed that the slope of the well-covered distribution was relatively gentle below 0.2~0.8 degrees, and the well-covered distribution was limited to the vicinity of the boundary where the slope changed rapidly. As a result of comparing the area of the seagrass distribution survey in 2015 and 2019, it was confirmed that the area was 238.4 ha and 1,070.9 ha, respectively, which was 4.5 times more widerly when performing Drone survey than diving survey. In order to understand the surrounding environment of the seagrass distribution site, satellite image data and license fishing ground information map at the time of drone shooting (May 2019) were checked. As a result, seaweed (Kelp, Sea mustard seaweed, Seaweed, Seaweed fulvescens, etc.) and shellfish (Abalone) were densely distributed, and most of the facilities except for Seaweed fulvescens farms were separated from their habitat. Drone survey confirmed Zostera marina, Zostera caulescens, and Zostera japonica in Wan Is., but no Phyllospadix iwatensis and Halophila nipponica were identified in 2015. It was confirmed that there was a limit to classifying the types of vegetation due to the characteristics of Phyllospadix iwatensis attached to the rock substrate, and in the case of Halophila nipponica with short leaves of 2 to 3 cm, they were not exposed to the water even at low tide, so there was a limit to detection using drones. These research results are expected to be useful data for grasping the characteristics of a wide range of seagrass habitats in other seas in the future.

The onshore wind energy has been growing rapidly in recent years and has reached a share of 9% in the Brazilian energy matrix. Although there is no offshore wind installation in Brazil, research has shown a large and unexplored energy potential in the country. The aim of this study is to perform an economic analysis for offshore wind projects in the Brazilian sea through the CAPEX and LCOE indicators, highlighting the preferred regions from an economic and energy view. Economic indicators were calculated considering a bathymetric limit up to 50 m and the whole extension of the Brazilian seashore. The results indicate that the Northeast region of the Brazil, especially between Maranhão and Rio Grande do Norte states, has a lower Levelized Cost of Energy, around US$ 69.9/MWh, and Capital Expenditure around of MM US$ 2.34/MW. Other less promising, but still reasonable points for the deployment of offshore wind farms are the ones between the north of the Rio de Janeiro state and the south of the Espírito Santo state, as well as between Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul states.

The valuation of the land depends upon the popularity and also the facilities around in that area. The spatial data constitutes the location information of the assets and the attributes that contain the details of the assets. Quantum GIS software is used for the storage and analysis of the data. The effective use of GIS along with reliable data and predictive tools can provide a robust and near realistic solution in predicting real estate trends. It is found that, for land assets, the Geographic Information System approach is effective. In this paper, we have used the statistical methods in order to find the market value and modelled value using Voronoi Polygon Method.
Today, a variety of information about forest ecosystems can be obtained using remote sensing methods. The use of space data for forest monitoring is cost-effective because it allows you to quickly ...obtain the objective information needed by foresters to solve practical problems. Satellite data provide wide coverage of forest lands, high accuracy of results, as well as high frequency of data obtained. Space images of the Ovruch district of the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine in the summer of 2020 were selected for the study. Determination of breed composition was carried out by the methods of controlled classification, namely the Bayesian classifier. It was found that 70 % of forests are pine, less aspen, hornbeam, birch, alder and ash tree species. According to statistics, during 2000-2020, 51.4 thousand hectares of forest plantations in Ukraine were damaged and destroyed by forest fires. Therefore, objective and timely information on the consequences of fires is needed to solve a wide range of applied problems of forestry. An important task in assessing the environmental and economic damage caused to forestry as a result of forest fires is to determine the area of damaged forests. The paper considers technologies for determining the area of the forest where the fire took place, using space images of the Landsat 8 satellite. The normalized NBR fire index before and after the fire and the DNBR index are used to identify areas burned by fire and impression levels. To predict forest fires, a mathematical model based on Bayes' theorem was created and a thematic map with fire hazard classes on a quarterly basis was created. To check the accuracy of the results of the created forecast model, the thematic map was combined with a layer of defined fire areas. This software product is quite flexible and versatile, it can be easily adapted for use not only to identify burned forest lands, but also for other areas.
Швидке зростання можливостей геоінформаційних технологій в області обробки та аналізу просторових даних призвело до істотного зростання ролі геоінформаційних систем в різних областях людської ...діяльності. Застосування нових підходів до обробки просторової інформації з супутників для більш ефективної та оперативної оцінки стану рослинних покривів обумовлено зростаючою тенденцією доступності до даних дистанційного зондування Землі. У статті запропоновано інформаційну систему, яка дозволяє швидко та зручно відслідкувати зміни рослинного світу. Аналіз виконувався на прикладі Чорнобильської зони за період 2000-2020 років. Чорнобильська катастрофа співпала з періодом інтенсивного вегетаційного розвитку рослин. У цей період вони є найбільш чутливими до радіації. Було встановлено, що найчастіше для визначення кількісного стану біомаси застосовується індекс NDVI у різні часові інтервали. Але даний індекс стає не ефективним в періоди послаблення активної фази вегетації. У зв’язку з цим представляється практичний інтерес для оцінки можливості застосування методом К-середніх для аналізу космічних знімків рослинного покриву на різних фазах вегетації. В результаті дослідження коректно інтерпретовано водну поверхню, землі з рослинним покривом і без нього, завдяки чому визначено землі з розрідженою рослинністю та щільним рослинним покривом. Побудовано карти рослинного покриву за нормалізованим вегетаційним індексом за методом К-середніх, за яким можна чітко прослідкувати динаміку зміни рослинності протягом 20 років. Точність результатів була перевірена методом Байєса. Згідно проведених розрахунків визначено, що незважаючи на всі природні катаклізми (підвищення температури, засуха, зимові аномалії опадів та температур, буревії, лісові пожежі), а також людську діяльність (санітарні рубки, несанкціонована вирубка дерев), рослинність в Чорнобильській зоні продовжує рости і їхні площі зростатимуть, хоча і не так швидко.
The increasing energy demand of the burgeoning population in India has propelled the development of new thermal power plants in the country. Availability of plenty of power-grade coal and water in ...the form of Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar Dam led to the establishment of several thermal power plants (TPP) in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. After the construction and post-construction activities of these TPP in the district, the pristine dense forests have completely been transformed into degraded land. In the present work, change detection analysis is carried out for three-time gradients, i.e., from 2005 to 2015 at the interval of five years using Quantum GIS software to understand the land use dynamics. It is observed that the area has witnessed significant transformation during the three-time gradients, including approximately a 6.9% decline in forest cover and a 23% increase in the barren surface. Further, artificial neural network (ANN) is employed in the present work to simulate and predict land use of the year 2025. The projected LULC for 2025 reveals that as the power plants operational activities will continue and expand further, there will be a substantial increase in fallow land and scrub land by the year 2025. The percentage of the correctness of the predicted LULC map is 98.21 with an overall Kappa index of 0.97 and a kappa histogram of 0.98. Details of the past, present and predicted LULC of an area aid the urban planners in informed decision making so as to choose, design, and implement future land use plans of the area in a sustainable manner.
Abstrak- Gizi buruk merupakan salah satu penyakit serius yang masih dihadapi oleh masyarakat di Indonesia. Kota Pekanbaru memiliki cukup banyak kasus gizi buruk , dimana penderita gizi buruk tersebar ...di beberapa kecamatan. Dinas Kesehatan Kota Pekanbaru belum memiliki aplikasi untuk memetakan penderita gizi buruk yang dapat memberikan informasi lengkap tentang data dan geografis penderita gizi buruk, Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membangun sistem informasi mengenai peta sebaran penderita gizi buruk di Kota Pekanbaru. Dalam pembuatan aplikasi ini menggunakan Quantum GIS untuk pembuatan peta Kota Pekanbaru dilengkapi dengan fitur penunjuk lokasi dengan titik koordinat dari google maps. Metode pengembangan sistem yang digunakan adalah System Development Life Cycle Model Waterfall sampai pada tahapan implementasi dan pengujian Blackbox. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah sistem informasi geografis pemetaan penderita gizi buruk, yang dapat membantu Dinas Kesehatan Kota Pekanbaru dalam pengolahan data dan pencarian informasi penderita gizi buruk. Pekanbaru City Health Office has no application to map malnutrition sufferer which can give complete information about data and geographic of malnutrition patient, The purpose of this research is to build information system about distribution map of malnutrition patient in Pekanbaru City. In making this application using Quantum GIS for map making Pekanbaru City is equipped with location indicator feature with coordinate point from google maps. System development method used is System Development Life Cycle Model Waterfall to the stages of implementation and testing Blackbox. The results obtained from this research is the geographic information system mapping malnutrition patients, who can help Pekanbaru City Health Office in data processing and information search for malnutrition.
