We introduce a new method to compute conformal parameterizations using a recent definition of discrete conformity, and establish a discrete version of the Riemann mapping theorem. Our algorithm can ...parameterize triangular, quadrangular and digital meshes. It can also be adapted to preserve metric properties. To demonstrate the efficiency of our method, many examples are shown in the experiment section.
The classical Helmholtz model for wakes behind an obstacle in perfect fluid mechanics boils down in complex analysis into a Riemann problem with free boundary, the free boundary being the wake and ...being such that the Riemann map parametrizes it as arclength parametrization. We generalize a method due to Coif man and Meyer CM to solve this problem for a class of non-smooth obstacles.
This book is meant to give an account of recent developments in the theory of Plateau's problem for parametric minimal surfaces and surfaces of prescribed constant mean curvature ("H-surfaces") and ...its analytical framework. A comprehensive overview of the classical existence and regularity theory for disc-type minimal and H-surfaces is given and recent advances toward general structure theorems concerning the existence of multiple solutions are explored in full detail.
The book focuses on the author's derivation of the Morse-inequalities and in particular the mountain-pass-lemma of Morse-Tompkins and Shiffman for minimal surfaces and the proof of the existence of large (unstable) H-surfaces (Rellich's conjecture) due to Brezis-Coron, Steffen, and the author. Many related results are covered as well. More than the geometric aspects of Plateau's problem (which have been exhaustively covered elsewhere), the author stresses the analytic side. The emphasis lies on the variational method.

We study one of the central open questions in one-dimensional renormalization theory-the conjectural universality of goldenmean Siegel disks. We present an approach to the problem based on cylinder ...renormalization proposed by the second author. Numerical implementation of this approach relies on the constructive measurable Riemann mapping theorem proved by the first author. Our numerical study yields convincing evidence to support the hyperbolicity conjecture in this setting.

This book was the origin of a grand scheme developed by Thurston that is now coming to fruition. In the 1920s and 1930s the mathematics of two-dimensional spaces was formalized. It was Thurston's goal to do the same for three-dimensional spaces. To do this, he had to establish the strong connection of geometry to topology--the study of qualitative questions about geometrical structures. The author created a new set of concepts, and the expression "Thurston-type geometry" has become a commonplace.
Three-Dimensional Geometry and Topologyhad its origins in the form of notes for a graduate course the author taught at Princeton University between 1978 and 1980. Thurston shared his notes, duplicating and sending them to whoever requested them. Eventually, the mailing list grew to more than one thousand names. The book is the culmination of two decades of research and has become the most important and influential text in the field. Its content also provided the methods needed to solve one of mathematics' oldest unsolved problems--the Poincaré Conjecture.
In 2005 Thurston won the first AMS Book Prize, forThree-dimensional Geometry and Topology.
