We investigate the impact of geopolitical risks caused by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on Russia, European financial markets, and the global commodity markets. We measure the dynamic connectedness among them using time- and frequency-based time-varying parameter vector autoregression (TVP-VAR) approaches. The empirical findings indicate that (i) their relationship has changed due to the conflict; (ii) European equities and Russian bonds are the net transmitters of shocks; and (iii) the conflict affects returns and volatility connectedness among them in terms of short- and long-term frequencies, respectively.
The Arctic regions are characterized by widespread development of permafrost. We studied a sandy aquifer used for water supply in the talik zone of the Pechora River valley. It has been found that ...groundwater has TDS values from 75 mg/L far from the river bank to 200 mg/L in the coastal zone. This indicates a predominantly atmospheric recharge of groundwater far from the river and the significant contribution of river water in the composition of groundwater in the coastal zone. The

H age of groundwater in onshore wells was 20–25 years, on the basis of which it was concluded that the groundwater entering the aquifer before 1995–2000 was almost completely replaced. Mean water residence time, sampled from wells far from the river bank, ranges from 20 to 50 years. However, unlike onshore wells, this groundwater contains “bomb water” and old water that entered the aquifer before 1952. The age of the old water reaches 12.9 ± 2.5 ka. The use of information on the distribution of tritium isotopes made it possible to clarify the conditions of groundwater recharge and end-member ratios of young water, “bomb water” and old water in different parts of the aquifer.
In recent years, active measures have been introduced in Russian language teaching and learning in Chinese universities to transform the traditional Russian education, paying particular attention to ...the development of students’ intercultural competence and literacy in the foundations of the humanities. Noticeably, Capital Normal University has taken preventive action in this direction and proposed a culturally-oriented model for training highly qualified specialists in Russian. The essence of the model lies in the focus on the three main components of Russian culture – literature, history and art. Based on this model, training programs are being developed, new textbooks are designed to suit the structure of academic disciplines, and new teams of progressive pedagogues are formed.
To better understand the subsurface behavior of subducting slabs and their relation to the tectonic evolution of the overriding plate, we conduct a full waveform inversion on a large data set to ...determine a high‐resolution seismic model, FWEA18 (Full Waveform inversion of East Asia in 2018), of the upper mantle beneath eastern Asia. FWEA18 reveals sharper, more intense high‐velocity slabs in the upper mantle under the southern Kuril, Japan, and Ryukyu arcs, than previous studies have found. The subducting Pacific plate is imaged as a roughly 100 km thick high‐velocity slab to near 550 km depth indicating relatively little deformation. Stagnation near 600 km depth is observed over horizontal distances of 600 km or less. The Pacific plate we image accounts for roughly 25 Myr of subduction with older slab likely located in the lower mantle. The Philippine plate, subducting beneath the Ryukyu Islands, has a clear termination at about 450 km depth. This may indicate a tearing event in the past or that less Philippine Sea plate has subducted than previously thought. We found a double‐layer high‐velocity anomaly above and below 660 km under the Yellow Sea and eastern coast of North China. This may correspond to parts of the Philippine Sea plate that detached in the past and Pacific plate that have intersected at depth or a complicated behavior of the Pacific plate at that depth. Slow cylindrical anomalies cross the entire upper mantle are imaged beneath major Holocene volcanoes, which are likely upwellings associated with the edges of deep slabs that are entering the lower mantle.
Key Points
High‐resolution 3‐D full waveform inversion for P‐velocities and S‐velocities reveals sharper and more intense mantle structures beneath East Asia
Subducting Pacific and Philippine Sea plates show little deformation until 550 km depth where the slabs stagnate and thicken
Narrow cylindrical slow anomalies beneath major Holocene volcanoes are rooted adjacent to where deep slabs enter the lower mantle

The war in Ukraine that began in February 2014 with the annexation of Crimea and escalated in February 2022 to the extent unseen in Europe since the World War II, cannot be adequately comprehended ...without taking into consideration its religious dimension. This dimension was correctly identified by the patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill as “metaphysical.” This paper explores some aspects of the metaphysics of the Russo-Ukrainian war. It also tries to explain how and why the Russian Orthodox Church has contributed to it.
The West Siberian Plain stands out among other boreal plains by phenomenal bogging, which has both global and regional significance. The polygonal bogs, frozen raised-mound bogs, and ombrotrophic ...ridge-hollow raised bogs are the most extensive bog types in the study area. These bogs commonly show highly diverse surface patterns consisting of mounds, polygons, ridges, hollows, and fens that correspond to the microtopes. Here we investigated how the microtopographic features of the landscape affect the thermal and hydrologic conditions of the soil as well as the nutrient availability and consequently, the dynamics of carbon and related elements. The effect of the surface heterogeneity on the temperature regimes and depths of permafrost is most significant. All of these factors together are reflected, through the feedback system, by a number of hydrochemical parameters of bog waters, such as dissolved organic and inorganic carbon (DOC, DIC), specific conductivity (Cond), SO42–, Cl–, P, Sr, Al, Ti, Cu, V, B, Cs, Cd, Rb, As, U, and rare earth elements (REEs). Among the studied parameters, DOC, SO42–, Al, V, and Mn differ most significantly between the convex and concave microforms. The DOC content in bog water is significantly affected by the water residence time, which is significantly longer in soils of mound/polygons than fens. Plants biomass is higher on the mounds which also have some effect that, due to leaching, should lead to more carbon entering into the water of the mounds. It is also shown that atmospheric-dust particles have a noticeable effect on the hydrochemical parameters of bog waters, especially on mounds. The ongoing climate warming will lead to an increase in the fens area and to a decrease in the content of DOC and many elements in bog waters.
