This monograph explores word order transformations in some Bulgarian and Serbian Church-Slavonic gospel transcriptions. The changes in word order in these texts are registered as variants to an Old ...Church-Slavonic text (Codex Marianus) and to the text of Old Greek New Testament. The publication discovers the principles on which the word order in the texts from the 12th and 13th century was organized and finds some differences from the word order in Old Church-Slavonic language. It also focuses on the question of occurrence of some new, progressive tendencies, and new, different word order models.

During the research, it has been considered which toponyms on the Balkan Peninsula are named after the plant elder (Proto-Slavic base *baz). Using etymology dictionaries, as well as the list of ...settlements of the Republic of Serbia, we have found twenty-three such toponyms. All the places named by them are situated in the mountain region, which is exactly the area where the elders grow. Phonetic variations which exist among the except toponyms are differently interpreted by etimologists. Most of the settlements are very old, which confirms the Proto-Slavic origin and refutes the interpretation given in the folk tales. Trojan/Trajan is associated with the elder - in the story about the emperor with the goat's ears, the elder reveals the secret about the emperor's oddness. In the research, the emperor Trojan/Trajan is associated with Triglav, the Slavic god symbolized by the elder.
The controversy of Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher against the hierarchs of the Latin Church in Venice (vc 16) contains, as is well known, a long quotation from the first epistle of St. Paul to the ...Corinthians (1 Cor 14). In this passage scholars have especially emphasized the theme of the equality and dignity of all languages to praise God, and therefore the apologetic element in defence of the use of the Slavic language in the divine liturgy as an alternative to Greek and Latin. Taking into account the cyrillo-methodian concept of the linguistic sign and the attitude of the two missionaries towards the option between glossolalia and prophecy (the two "gifts" mentioned in 1 Cor 14), the article interprets the dispute by shifting attention to the main theme of the introduction of the new Slavic alphabet, which is considered here more relevant than the question of language itself (some other works of the ocs literature are cited to illustrate this thesis, see e.g. the Treatise on the Letters by Hrabar, the Proglas to the Gospel, and the Azbučna molitva). Against the alleged exclusivism of the Latin letters, an implicit accusation of paganism and magism emerges at the address of the Latin bishops, to which the term "trijęzyčmcf also seems to allude.
Owed to its cryptic character and words plasticity, the slang has always manifested an attraction upon the linguists and not only. By means of a case study, this present article emphasizes that the ...main enrichment source of the Romanian slang is the Romanian language itself, thus contradicting the superficial idea that the slang would be supplied primary by the words deriving from the Romany language and last hour words borrowed from English. Of the 3870 slang words under analysis, 1558 are of Roman origin (inherited Latin, literary Latin, French, Italian or double Romanic etymology) which represents a 41,2% percentage, as opposed to words such as „a cardi”, „a ciordi”, „a mardi”, „mucles”, „mişto” etc., which represent a mear 3,6% percentage.
II. Akzentwörterbuch.
The hereby article proposes a linguistic monograph of two Slavic terms belonging to the lexical-semantic field of forestry in Romanian: HUCI (= thick forest) and LAZ (= deforested place used as ...pasture for sheep and cattle or as land for agriculture), thu
This paper marks the birth anniversary of Doctor of Philology, Honored Scholar of the Republic of Tatarstan Emiliya Agafonovna Balalykina (b. 1937). Her long research and teaching work is associated ...mainly with the Kazan University. However, E.A. Balalykina is also a very famous researcher far beyond the borders of Russia. Her studies on language history, modern Russian language, and comparative linguistics are distinguished for an innovative approach to the analyzed linguistic phenomena, as well as by the profundity and importance of the obtained results. Here, an attempt has been made to describe the life of an extraordinary person by offering an insight into the main periods and events of her life, to show the profundity of her research results in Russian (modern and historical) and comparative-historical word formation. At the Balto-Slavic background (with involvement of all Slavic languages and Lithuanian language, which is most valuable for such comparison), the key reasons for affinity of the languages at the level of word formation, which is often inconsistent with their genetic affinity, were identified, thereby suggesting that certain Slavic and Baltic languages can be divided into groups based on the similarity in the development of adjective formation types. The origin of certain adjectival morphemes was revealed, which is not in line with the traditional views on this problem. Furthermore, the idea of Professor V.M. Markov on the necessity to single out a new branch of Russian studies, grammatical lexicology, was further developed. To make this idea a reality, the grammatical contradictions in the modern Russian language and the “dead ends” in nominal declension and word formation associated with them were studied. In conclusion, a list of publications (papers, abstracts, and conference proceedings) of the recent 10 years covering the urgent problems of grammar and lexicology and candidate and doctoral dissertations defended under the guidance of E.A. Balalykina has been provided. The main areas of research of E.A. Balalykina and her followers have been discussed: Russian and comparative-historical word formation, semantic word formation, enantiosemy, grammatical lexicology. E.A. Balalykina has been characterized as a brilliant lecturer and speaker, good organizer, talented and loyal leader, skillful storyteller, wise mentor, and strong human with a kind heart.
