Recently, there has been a growing interest in descriptive and applied studies on translation conducted with the use of methodologies grounded in corpus linguistics. In this paper, we present an ...overview of state-of-the-art research in corpus-based and corpus-driven translation and interpreting studies conducted with the use of Russian corpora, notably parallel and comparable ones. In contrast to research conducted on other European languages (English, French, German, Spanish etc.), the considerable research tradition in Russian remains relatively unknown to a wider scholarly audience. We outline the scope of research conducted so far, present the most important parallel and comparable corpora with a Russian subcorpus used in translation and interpreting studies, discuss the state-of-the-art research methods, including descriptive and inferential statistics, and summarize selected studies of considerable impact in the discipline. Finally, we identify research gaps and outline avenues for future research.
This edited volume offers the first comprehensive collection devoted to the study of Slavic gender linguistics by a team of international Slavic linguists. It features eleven highly-original, ...data-driven contributions representing a variety of approaches to this understudied and underrepresented area of contemporary Slavic linguistics. For those working specifically in the field of gender linguistics, the collection presents the first English-language introduction to this vital area of sociolinguistic research based upon findings from contemporary Russian, Polish, Czech and other Slavic languages. For Slavic linguists, it presents a ground-breaking collection of sociolinguistic studies which advance Russian linguistic theory and further enhance it with new theoretical frameworks and analyses by which to view the Slavic data. Each of the contributions is sufficiently rich and varied in its conceptual design, theoretical approach, and potential for practical application in graduate seminars or courses in gender linguistics. The linguistic fields addressed by this collection include: pragmatics, discourse analysis, grammar, syntax, literary linguistics, cross-cultural linguistics, diachronic linguistics, and quantitative linguistics.

The Bible Commission, founded during the 10th International Congress of Slavists (Sofia 1988), has been holding conferences and seminars on various aspects of the study of the Slavic Bible since the ...early 1990s, starting with a conference on the Gennadiev Bible (Moscow 1990). From the outset, the aim of the Commission has been to preserve the legacy of past research while at the same time stimulating the development of new research.
The topic of the names of residents has already been dealt with on various levels - from the linguistic, lexical and historical perspective, ethnonyms were discussed in literary works and ...dictionaries, but few publications have developed ways of creating demonyms by children and adolescents - hence the topic was taken up. The aim of the article is to present and discuss the lexical material concerning the names of inhabitants of countries. The material was collected on the basis of a survey conducted among fifth-grade students of a primary school in the Turek district in the Wielkopolska voivodship. The task of the respondents was to create 34 demonyms. The presented analysis concerns the methods of creating demonyms, taking into account word-formation techniques.
The subject of the article is fluctuations in the notation of some newer verbal borrowings from English. The main issue is the formulation of normative recommendations which concern the spelling of ...verbs which in the original notation end with a silent e.
The paper offers detailed consideration of actional and verbal aspects of the triad of the ritualized actions «road», «crossing» and (reaching of) «lands beyond the river», which forms the basis of ...the East Slavic burial rite. Due to the linguistic specifics of the study the authors put their preferential attention to the language of the burial ritual, which is folklore texts (keening, spells, ritual precepts), their vestiges, separately existing as idiomatic phrases and separate words with peculiar semantics. Being the verbal counterpart of the ritualized action, textual information not only shows the interconnection between three stages of the burial ritual, but also encourages thinking about possible existence of mythological texts in the past, where the path of the dead is described – starting from gathering to the road, ritual precepts, and entering the Paradise extents.
