This book by the renowned Russian linguist and semiotician Nikolai Mikhailov Николай Александрович Михайлов (1967–2010) is now published posthumously, more than ten years after his death. Presented ...is analytic overview of numerous past studies on Slavic and Balto-Slavic mythology. Included are works written by scholars of Slavic mythology based on written sources as well as on findings from folklore, linguistics, and archaeology. The first analysed is the work of the Lusatian-Serbian author Michael Frenzl on Slavic idols, which was written as early as 1691 but not published until 1719. It is followed by treatises and monographs that span across three centuries. The so-called original sources (reports of chroniclers, archaeological sources) may be incomplete and obscure, yet they are in this book again critically analysed. The author reconstructed the mythology of various Slavic nations partly also through the remnants of paganism that have survived to this day in various and often highly modified forms.
Collective memory as a reference theoretical basis is separated into cultural and communicative with the aim of distinguishing the archaic and contemporary understanding of the Old Slavic myth in ...interpersonal and intergenerational communication among residents of Žrnovnica. Research was conducted using a questionnaire on an intentional sample of a total of 50 residents. The results confirm the existence of cultural memory among respondents and a high level of general knowledge about Old Slavic myth. We found no statistically significant differences in the communicative memory of the respondents in relation to age, nor indications of interruption of intergenerational communication on this subject.
Rad istražuje ulogu komunikativnog sjećanja u kontekstu očuvanja kontinuiteta staroslavenskog mita na području Žrnovnice pokraj Splita. Kolektivno sjećanje kao referentna teorijska osnova raščlanjeno je na kulturno i komunikativno s ciljem jasne distinkcije arhaičnog i suvremenog poimanja staroslavenskog mita u interpersonalnoj i međugeneracijskoj komunikaciji. Istraživanje je provedeno pomoću anketnog upitnika na namjernom uzorku od ukupno 50 ispitanika, isključivo stanovnika Žrnovnice. Rezultati istraživanja potvrđuju postojanost kulturnog sjećanja kod ispitanika te visoku razinu općeg znanja o aspektima staroslavenskog mita. Nisu identificirane statistički značajne razlike u komunikativnom sjećanju ispitanika u odnosu na dob, niti ima naznaka o prekidu međugeneracijske komunikacije na ovu temu.
This paper critically analyses and discusses two recent re-interpretations of the name of the Slavic god known as Sventovit. This deity was worshipped on Rügen Island, on Wittow Peninsula, at a ...locality called Arkona. The temple of Sventovit, with his four-headed statue, stood there on the cliff there in the Middle Ages until its destruction by the Danes in 1168/9. The paper explores an article by Michał Łuczyński published in the Polish journal Ling Varia in 2015, and a chapter on Sventovit in the book by Judith Kalik and Alexander Uchitel, titled Slavic Gods and Heroes, which was published by Routledge in 2018, in the USA and UK. In his work, Łuczyński postulated that root-stem -vit in the name of a deity is, in fact, a suffix -ovit implying its attributive character. The paper argues for a widely accepted explanation that root-stem -vit derives from the Slavic vitędzь, denoting warrior, hero, freeman, lord, master or ruler. In their book, Kalik and Uchitel argued that the name “Sventovit” was a corrupted form of the name of the Christian Saint Vitus. This article challenges this notion, arguing that the deity’s name Sventovit has nothing to do with Saint Vitus.
Slav mitolojik sistemi, gerek Yunan mitlerinden gerekse coğrafi yakınlık içinde bulunduğu Doğu’nun söylencelerinden esinlenerek onlara ait bileşenleri özgün evren algısı çerçevesinde yorumlar. Rus ...folklorunun Slav mitlerinin çeşitliliğinden beslenen kökleri ise karşılaştırmalı araştırmalar adına zengin ve geniş bir yelpaze sunar. Bu zengin birikime odaklanan çalışmamda, Rus halkının mitolojik imgeleminde önemli bir yer edinen kanatlı melez varlıkları ve Gümüş Çağ şiirine yansımalarını inceledim. İkili kimlikleriyle öne çıkan kadın başlı kuşlardan tanrıça vasfı taşıyan Stratim’i, neşe ve keder kuşları Alkonost ve Sirin’i ve haberci devlet kuşu Gamayun’u ele aldım. Melez kuşlara ilişkin tasavvurları besleyen kaynakların izini sürmek ve onlara yüklenen doğaüstü anlamların ardındaki evrensel arayışları ortaya koymak, çalışmamın hedefinde yer aldı. Bu amaçla, karşılaştırmalı yöntemden faydalandım ve söz konusu varlıkların dünya mitlerinden ilhamla inşa edilen eklektik kimliklerine eğildim. Kadın başlı kuşların ayırt edici niteliklerini ortaya koyarken aydınlık ve karanlık yüzlerinin dönüşümlü olarak vurgulanmasını gerektiren kolektif bilinç ögelerini ve anlatılarda üstlendikleri rolü öngörülemez kılan düalist anlayışı çözümledim. Çözümleme neticesinde A. A. Blok, K. D. Balmont, N. A. Klyuyev ve A. A. Ahmatova gibi şairlerin, yüzyılın eşiğinde yaşanan toplumsal ve siyasî gelişmelere yönelik kaygılarını folklorik sembollerle ifade ettiklerini ve kuş-kız imgesinin geleneksel fonksiyonlarını yıkarak özgün yaratıcılık anlayışları doğrultusunda yeniden inşa ettiklerini ortaya koydum.
The topic of the article are the names of supernatural beings found in contemporary Polish. The research material comes from the Polish Academy of Sciences Great Dictionary of Polish. The author ...discusses the cultural affiliation of lexical units, their metaphorical meanings and axiological characterization. The analysis of the semantic field proved that it is dominated by native Slavic and Polish beliefs, as well as the Christian and ancient traditions.
This paper focuses on a copper-alloy goad discovered in 2017 in Lubniewice in Lubuskie Voivodeship, Poland. An interdisciplinary analysis has shown that the goad was originally part ofa lavishly ...decorated copper-alloy spur representing a type known from high-status West Slavic graves (e.g. Lutomiersk, Ciepłe) and settlement sites. Because objects of this kind are made of costly material, and because expert skills were required to produce them, it is argued that they were commissioned by a very specific group of people who used them as “material markers” of their distinct cultural and religious identity. It is not unlikely that the owners of such spurs were members of the elite retinue of the Piasts who played important roles on and off the battlefield.
W artykule przedstawiono wybrane teksty literackie wydane w ciągu ostatniego dziesięciolecia, starając się odpowiedzieć na pytanie o punkty styczne między fantastyką a kryminałem oraz o to, czy można ...już mówić o nowym podgatunku: „słowiańskim kryminale”. Punktem wyjścia w analizach i interpretacjach utworów było założenie, iż tendencja do eksperymentowania w literaturze przybrała na sile po 2000 roku w ramach postmodernistycznych gier i zabaw tekstem na osi autor – czytelnik. W wyniku kolejnych przekształceń dokonujących się w ciągu ostatnich dziesięcioleci zarówno fantastyka, jak i kryminał zmierzały coraz bardziej w stronę synkretyzmu gatunkowego, stosując wzajemne intertekstualne nawiązania, przenikania swoich motywów, tematów i wątków. W artykule posiłkowano się ustaleniami z zakresu komparatystyki i intertekstualności.
