In the region of Hrvatsko zagorje there are a lot of spa localities. The study area is in the northern Pannonian part of Croatia which is characterized by a high geothermal gradient (0.049 °C/m) and ...surface heat flow (76 mW/m^sup 2^). Although there are a lot of thermal occurrences in the study area, only ten were taken into consideration because there was a lack of geochemical data at other locations. The thermal springs considered are: Harina Zlaka, Krapinske toplice, Tuheljske toplice, Stubicke toplice, Sutinske toplice, Semnicke toplice, Toplicica (Maðarevo), Toplicica (Gotalovec), Podevcevo, Vrazdinske toplice. A compilation of geochemical data from different sources together with our own measurements has been used in this study. The aim of this paper is to review the thermal waters' geochemical characteristics and demonstrate how these features can be used to discern their origin and the aquifer they equilibrated with. The geochemical characteristics of thermal waters of the study area suggest that the water is in equilibrium with dolomite which means that dolomite is the thermal aquifer in the study area.
After the First World War significant changes occurred in treatment and care for the disabled and their family members in the Varaždinske Toplice baths, as, according to the available sources, numerous disabled persons were treated in these baths at the time of the newly established Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. Alongside many other changes and novelties in the new state, there were also changes in the Association of bathing resorts, baths, spas, summer resorts, mineral waters and sanatoria. Increasing pressure from various state institutions was being exerted on this bathing resort, whether it was in regard to documentation related to the activities of the bathing resort, to statistical data, or to the accommodation of those disabled in war and their family members and the rights they were entitled to. It is true, as evidenced by the documents, that most disabled persons did not follow the rules related to the accommodation in this bathing resort, so problems often occurred. It was the aftermath of World War I when the lack of certain food items as well as the impoverishment of the local population were still being felt. Of special interest in this work is the research of the rich archives of Zagreb’s Kaptol (the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zagreb) which have been stored in the Varaždinske Toplice Local History Museum and published for the first time with the aim to make public the administrative and legal proceedings brought by the war-disabled, widows and orphans during and after the Great War. We are confronted by the facts showing the length of time needed to obtain a positive or a negative decision in regard to receiving support for the disabled. During these lengthy administrative and legal proceedings there were examples of some disability rights heirs even dying after a period of about ten years, while others tried to extort their rights and lost the proceedings.
This paper presents present state of development of tourism in Krapinske Toplice Spa and possibilities of further development from the geographical point of view. Natural, socio-economical, cultural ...and historical components of the area are analysed. Special attention is given to development of health tourism and its impact on the development of other types of tourism. Paper explains the main reason of slower tourist development of Krapinske Toplice in comparison to other spas in the region.
The work brings to light the discovery of five late Roman fragments of frescoes discovered during a protective archaeological survey on brothers Radić street in Varaždinske Toplice. Particular ...attention was paid to the work of conservation and restoration analysis of the discovered murals, as well as to the new discovery of the perserved architectural part of the partially perserved Roman walls at the location of brothers Radić street in Varaždinske Toplice. The text also gives an overview of the newly discovered movable archaeological material that was saved by the works at the specified location. A particularly valuable and interesting ancient building structure was discovered at the house number 5, 7 and 8. The conducted field research has confirmed that it represents a new preserved important segment of the Roman wall and floor structure with preserved parts that still have a Roman plaster and hypocustic system. The discovered ancient structure was very likely in antiquity an important architectural segment of the widely known ancient settlement Aquae Iasae whose original remains are located today near the aforementioned street location in a nearby city park in the center of Varaždinske Toplice. This paper presents the latest conservation, restoration and archeological data related to the historical urban fabric of the ancient period, which have been preserved under the existing recent residential-architecture of Varaždinske Toplice.
prostora rimskog izvorišta i svetišta 2011. i 2012. godine
u sjeverni i južni zid izvorišta tijekom njihove obnove.
u urušenju i sačuvanoj konstrukciji sjevernog zida, a jedan u južnom
The paper presents research on Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski published in the Radovi edition by the Institute for Scientific Research Work in Varaždin. These are all, with one exception, authorized ...presentations from scientific conferences organised at Kukuljević’s Days manifestation in Varaždinske Toplice. The authors are: Miroslav Kurelac, Aleksandra Kolarić, Ivan Zvonar, Mirjana Matijević-Sokol, Stjepan Hranjec, Miroslav Šicel, Božena Filipan, Denis Peričić, Tomislav Đurić, Dubravka Franković and Stjepan Damjanović, who presented his paper at the conference, Homage to Vatroslav Jagić 1838 – 2003. Roundtable held in Varaždin on 23 September 2013. In their texts the aforementioned authors highlighted the most important events from life and work of Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski. Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski was not only the founder of numerous scientific disciplines but also of many archives, libraries, museums, magazines, and of cultural and historical societies. He gathered historical materials and sources (state archive), published significant historical documents, wrote scientific historical discussions and was also a biographer, archaeologist, art historian, bibliographer and bibliophile.
In 1983, three stained-glass windows designed by the painter, costume and set designer Pavao Vojković (b. June 24, 1912 – d. December 26, 2006 in Varaždin), and manufactured by the Zagreb glassmaking ...company Staklo, were installed in the Church of St. Martin the Bishop in Varaždinske Toplice. The rectangular Gothic windows topped with lancet arches are adorned with stained-glass images showing key episodes of the saint’s life. On the northern wall of the church, in the Gothic opening that stands closer to the arch, there is a stained-glass window with a tetramorph, the symbol of the Four Evangelists. The window on its right shows St Martin and the Beggar, while on the opposite, southern wall, there is an image of St Martin the Bishop. The information concerning the three stained-glass windows, apart from their locations, is listed on an unnumbered page of the parish chronicle, under a series of notes from 1983. That the windows were made after the artist’s designs corroborates the inscription NACRT / P. VOJKOVIĆ / STAKLO – ZGB / IZVELO, (DESIGN / P. VOJKOVIĆ / STAKLO-ZGB / MANUFACTURER) found in the lower left corner of the stained-glass window depicting St. Martin the bishop. The inscription and the note in the parish chronicle tie in with nine surviving sketches made by the artist in 1982 and 1983. These are kept in the Pavao Vojković Collection of the Varaždin City Museum, and a private collection of the artist’s work, forming a significant part of his religious oeuvre. Comparing the sketches with the windows highlights the changes in the iconography and composition of the scenes on the three windows. These were most probably selected to match the existing iconography: until the windows were installed in 1983, an oil painting of St. Martin on the main altar, not originally intended for it, was the only image of the saint Martin of Tours inside the church. Following the relocation of the painting to the parish house, the windows remain the only examples of the saint’s iconography in the church.
