This study was conducted to determine the impact of heat stress on some physiological and endocrine traits in Saanen goats raised under Mediterranean climate conditions. The effects of thermal stress ...on heart rate (HR), respiration rate (RR) and rectal temperature (RT) on plasma total trii-odothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), Cortisol (C), and HSP70 concentrations were evaluated on twenty two Saanen goats of different ages in the second week of April 2013, July 2013, October 2013 and January 2014. Climatic data such as temperature (°C) and relative humidity (%) were recorded from Spring 2013 to Winter 2014. Live body and BCS values were also recorded during this period. The physiological parameters above were measured twice on each experiment day (morning and afternoon) in all seasons. Blood samples were collected in each afternoon of the experiment day to analyze T3, T4 C, and HSP70. All data were analyzed. According to the values of rectal temperature (RT), it was estimated that the goats were under extreme heat stress only in the summer season. The heart rate (HR) values in the winter season for morning and noon periods were found statistically significant (p < 0.05). The average respiratory rate (RR) in the spring season was found significantly lower. On the other hand, the RR for the noon period in the summer was higher than in the fall and winter seasons (p < 0.05). There was a significant difference (p < 0.05) between summer and fall seasons for C values. The highest value (96.62 ng/ml) was obtained in spring, whereas the lowest (60.58 ng/ml) in the fall. T3 levels in the fall and winter were found to be statistically significant (p < 0.05). They were the highest in the winter and spring, and the lowest in fall. T4 and T4/T3 levels in the winter were found to be statistically higher than in other seasons (p < 0.05). The lowest value for T4 was found in the fall and for T4/T3 in summer. Mean HSP70 value in spring was found to be statistically low (p < 0.05). The changes in THI values in different seasons, particularly between mornings and afternoons, indicated that thermal stress was evident, and that the animals became resistant to it eventually. The fluctuations of the C, T3, T4 and HSP70 values were indicators of the animals’ reaction to thermal stress. The THI values in spring, which were between 16 and 18 THI, may be considered within the ideal comfort zone for goats. It was observed that Saanen goats were able to adapt to seasonal weather changes in the environmental conditions of the region...
A cDNA encoding hyoscyamine 6β-hydroxylase (H6H, EC 1.14.11.11), a bifunctional enzyme catalyzing the last two steps in the scopolamine biosynthetic pathway, was isolated from Hyoscyamus senecionis, ...a medicinal plant endemic to the Iranian plateau. Expression analysis indicates that Hsh6h is expressed in all tested organs of H. senecionis including roots, rhizomes, leaves, stems and flowers unlike the other tropane alkaloid producing species. In parallel to this, in leaves, levels of scopolamine, the product of H6H, were higher than the substrate hyoscyamine. These data suggest that not only does the conversion of hyoscyamine to scopolamine take place in the root, followed by translocation to aerial parts, but also accumulated hyoscyamine in the aerial parts may be converted to scopolamine by activity of HsH6H. Analysis of expression profiles of putrescine N-methyltransferase and tropinone reductase I and II genes also indicates the organ-independent expression of these genes. Here we also introduce H. senecionis as an important tropane alkaloid producing species with its thick underground parts as a source of hyoscyamine, while its leaves can be considered as a source of scopolamine.
Display omitted Production of tropane alkaloids and expression of tropane alkaloid pathway genes were presented in Hyoscyamus senecionis, for the first time. Organ-independent expression of newly identified h6h cDNA and the other TA pathway genes explain an atypical pattern of scopolamine accumulation in this species.
•Cloning and characterization of a new H6H cDNA from Hyoscyamus senecionis.•An atypical pattern of tropane alkaloid accumulation and expression of TA pathway genes.•Hyoscyamine and scopolamine are mainly stored in rhizomes and leaves, respectively.
Glucose was found to exert an In vitro regulatory effect on prolactin secretion. Its role in the modulation of stimulated secretion of prolactin in man is, however, not clear. To evaluate the effect ...of hyperglycaemia on prolactin release, three stimulatory tests with different mechanisms of stimulation were employed. Healthy male subjects served as volunteers during submaximal exercise, TRH test (0.2 mg i.v.) and administration of haloperidol (2 mg i.v.). Glucose (100 g in 400 ml) or an equal volume of water was given 30 min before the tests. Blood for glucose and prolactin analysis was taken via an indwelling catheter. The plasma prolactin concentration increased in response to each of the stimuli applied. However, the prolactin increase during hyperglycaemia did not differ from values obtained in tests performed in normoglycaemia after water administration. These results indicate that prolactin release in healthy man is not modulated by hyperglycaemia.
A new bothriolepid antiarch, Vietnamaspis trii gen. et sp. nov., is described from the Middle-Upper Devonian sandstones of the Dô Son peninsula, near Haiphong, Vietnam. The site is north of the Song ...Ma suture zone on the South China Terrane, and contains a fauna including Bothriolepis and groenlandaspids. Vietnamaspis gen. nov. is characterized by having a long, parallel-sided posterior median dorsal plate, and an anterior median dorsal plate with a narrow anterior margin. Vietnamaspis gen. nov. is regarded as a sister taxon to Bothriolepis and Grossilepis because it has a relatively large axillary foramen on the anterior ventrolateral plate. The Australian bothriolepid Bothriolepis warreni Long 1983 is referred to a new genus, Briagalepis gen. nov., because it has very short overlap surfaces for the anterior dorsolateral plate on the anterior median dorsal plate, and lacks a reticulate dermal ornament.

This paper attempts to shed light on the question of whether the value premium exists in the Vietnam stock market. We analyze the difference between the returns of the value portfolio and the growth ...portfolio. Stocks are sorted into porfolios according to the BM, EP, CP and DP ratios. The result suggests that the value premium exists in the Vietnam stock market if the stocks are sorted into porfolios according to EP, CF and DP ratios while it does not exist if the stocks are sorted into portfolios accordingto the BM ratio
