La taricaya (Podocnemis unifilis) y el teparo (Phrynops geoffroanus) representan especies con alto valor ambiental y económic; y para conocer el estado de sus poblaciones, se estimó el índice de ...abundancia (IA) a través de 20 transectos acuáticos de 10 km de recorrido en 3 sectores: Parque Nacional Alto Purús (PNAP), Reserva Comunal Purús (RCP) y la Zona de Amortiguamiento (territorio comunal adyacente a la RCP). Se obtuvieron 737 registros con 2335 individuos avistados para taricaya y sólo 17 registros con 25 individuos avistados para teparo. El IA de la taricaya para el RCP fue de 3,9 ind/km recorrido (EE = 0,6). Se pudo evidenciar un mayor IA en los subsectores dentro del PNAP y progresivamente menor IA en los sectores de la Zona de Amortiguamiento (ZA) de la RCP. Estos resultados valorizan la importancia de las áreas naturales protegidas (ANP) para mantener las poblaciones de especies como la taricaya; y representan el inicio de un monitoreo robusto para que en las siguientes temporadas y junto a otros indicadores económicos y sociales tener una visión general del estado de conservación de la especie en la RCP. Para el caso de la especie teparo, si bien es posible realizar cálculos del índice de abundancia, estos no tienen una interpretación biológica de la población de la especie en la RCP, y compete a la Jefatura de la RCP tomar las decisiones de ajuste en los métodos de levantamiento de información y/o diseño de muestreo de la evaluación de esta importante especie.
RESUMEN: El objetivo de la investigación fue identificar las familias de ácaros asociados a zarzamora silvestre (Rubus fruticosus L.), conocer su distribución espacial y su fluctuación poblacional en ...la localidad de Telcruz, ubicada en el municipio de Cuautitlán de García Barragán en el estado de Jalisco, México. Se colectaron 1.836 ácaros correspondientes a tres órdenes y 14 familias, de las cuales las más abundantes son Tetranychidae, Diptilomiopidae, Eriophyidae y Phytoseiidae, que aportaron el 73,6% del total de los ácaros. Las familias Parasitidae, Bdellidae, Cunaxidae, Iolinidae, Oribatidae son nuevos registros de asociación a plantas de zarzamora silvestre en México. La mayor parte de las familias se distribuyeron en el estrato medio de las plantas. La fluctuación poblacional aumentó a partir de febrero, con el pico más alto en abril. Se observó que el número de familias depredadoras aumentó en la medida en que se incrementó el de familias fitófagas. Este es el primer estudio donde se realiza un inventario de las familias de ácaros asociados a plantas silvestres de zarzamora y que sirve como un antecedente para futuras investigaciones acerca de cómo emplear estrategias de manejo más efectivas en este cultivo.
We present the first metallicity gradient measurement for a grand-design face-on spiral galaxy at z ~ 1.5. This galaxy has been magnified by a factor of 22X by a massive, X-ray luminous galaxy ...cluster MACS J1149.5+2223 at z = 0.544. Using the Laser Guide Star Adaptive Optics aided integral field spectrograph OSIRIS on KECK II, we target the H Delta *a emission and achieve a spatial resolution of 01, corresponding to a source-plane resolution of 170 pc. The galaxy has well-developed spiral arms and the nebular emission line dynamics clearly indicate a rotationally supported disk with V rot/ Delta *s ~ 4. The best-fit disk velocity field model yields a maximum rotation of V rotsin i = 150 ? 15 km s--1, and a dynamical mass of M dyn = (1.3 ? 0.2) X 1010 cosec2(i) M (within 2.5 kpc), where the inclination angle i = 45? ? 10?. Based on the N II and H Delta *a ratios, we measured the radial chemical abundance gradient from the inner hundreds of parsecs out to ~5 kpc. The slope of the gradient is --0.16 ? 0.02 dex kpc--1, significantly steeper than the gradient of late-type or early-type galaxies in the local universe. If representative of disk galaxies at z ~ 1.5, our results support an 'inside-out' disk formation scenario in which early infall/collapse in the galaxy center builds a chemically enriched nucleus, followed by slow enrichment of the disk over the next 9 Gyr.
We present a study of the physical properties of the disc and tail of ESO137−001, a galaxy suffering from extreme ram-pressure stripping during its infall into the Norma cluster. With sensitive and ...spatially resolved MUSE (Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer) spectroscopy, we analyse the emission line diagnostics in the tail of ESO137−001, finding high values of N ii/Hα and O i/Hα that are suggestive of the presence of shocks in turbulent gas. However, the observed line ratios are not as strong as commonly seen in pure shock heating models, suggesting that other emission mechanisms may contribute to the observed emission. Indeed, part of the observed emission, particularly at close separations from the galaxy disc, may originate from recombination of photoionized gas stripped from the main body of ESO137−001. We also identify a large number of bright compact knots within in the tail, with line ratios characteristic of H ii regions. These H ii regions, despite residing in a stripped gas tail, have quite typical line ratios, densities, temperatures, and metallicity (∼0.7 solar). The majority of these H ii regions are embedded within diffuse gas from the tail, which is dynamically cool (σ ∼ 25–50 km s− 1). This fact, together with a lack of appreciable gradients in age and metallicity, suggests that these H ii regions formed in situ. While our analysis represents a first attempt to characterize the rich physics of the ESO137−001 tail, future work is needed to address the importance of other mechanisms, such as thermal conduction and magnetohydrodynamic waves, in powering the emission in the tail.
ABSTRACT We present early high-resolution spectroscopic observations of the nova V1369 Cen. We have detected an absorption feature at 6695.6 that we have identified as blueshifted 7Li i λ6708 . The ...absorption line, moving at −550 km s−1, was observed in five high-resolution spectra of the nova obtained at different epochs. Based on the intensity of this absorption line, we infer that a single nova outburst can inject in the Galaxy = 0.3-4.8 × 10−10 . Given the current estimates of the Galactic nova rate, this amount is sufficient to explain the puzzling origin of the overabundance of lithium observed in young star populations.
El conocimiento de la biodiversidad de anfibios y reptiles es fundamental para proponer la conservación de estos taxa. En este trabajo se realizaron registros por encuentros visuales y recopilación ...bibliográfica para conocer la diversidad de anfibios y reptiles por tipos de hábitats en el interfluvio Putumayo–Napo–Amazonas. Nuestros resultados muestran la existencia de 140 especies de anfibios y 108 reptiles. El bosque de colina tuvo mayor riqueza de especies (58 especies de anfibios y 40 de reptiles). Las familias con mayor riqueza fueron Hylidae (38 especies) y Colubridae (39 especies). El análisis de similitud de hábitats en anfibios mostró dos grupos: de los bosques de terraza alta, terraza media y bosque de colinas y del bosque de terraza baja, aguajal y varillal pantanoso. En los reptiles también se formaron dos grupos: de los de aguajal, bosque de colinas y terraza alta, y de los bosques de terraza baja, terraza media y varillal pantanoso. En este interfluvio, la herpetofauna está amenazada por la deforestación, la agricultura, la cacería de caimanes y recolección de huevos de tortugas. Si estas presiones ambientales se intensifican podrían causar drásticas reducciones poblacionales.
Here, we present a new code, CASTRO, that solves the multicomponent compressible hydrodynamic equations for astrophysical flows including self-gravity, nuclear reactions, and radiation. CASTRO uses ...an Eulerian grid and incorporates adaptive mesh refinement (AMR). Our approach to AMR uses a nested hierarchy of logically rectangular grids with simultaneous refinement in both space and time. The radiation component of CASTRO will be described in detail in the next paper, Part II, of this series.
Zaprionus indianus Gupta es una especie plaga invasora de mosca, que ha colonizado el continente americano en los últimos 20 años. Se trata de una especie polífaga que con Drosophila ...melanogasterMe\gen y D. simulans Sturtevant utilizan una amplia variedad de frutas como recursos de cría y alimentación. En el presente estudio cuantificamos la abundancia relativa de estas especies en individuos adultos y moscas emergidas colectados de diversos hospedadores (frutas comerciales) en diferentes localidades del norte argentino. Detectamos superposición de recursos de cría y alimentación entre las especies analizadas, aunque nuestros resultados revelaron que la abundancia relativa entre especies de Drosophila y Z indianus vanó entre las muestras de adultos y emergidos. Estos resultados sugieren un uso diferencial de los recursos y/o efecto de la competencia interespecífica. PALABRAS CLAVE. Abundancia relativa. Bioinvasión. Hospedadores. Zaprionus indianus. Zaprionus indianus Gupta is an invasive pest species that has colonized the American continent in the last 20 years. This species is a polyphagous species that with Drosophila melanogaster Meigen and D. simulans Sturtevant utilized a wide variety of fruits as breeding and feeding resources. In the present study we quantified the relative abundance of these species in adult and emerged samples collected from various hosts (commercial fruits) in different localities in northern Argentina. We detected overlapping of rearing and feeding resources between the analyzed species although, our results revealed that the relative abundance between Drosophila and Z indianus species varied between both adult and emerged samples. Fulmars are effective biological indicators of the abundance of floating plastic marine debris. Long-term data reveal high plastic abundance in the southern North Sea, gradually decreasing to the ...north at increasing distance from population centres, with lowest levels in high-arctic waters. Since the 1980s, pre-production plastic pellets in North Sea fulmars have decreased by ∼75%, while user plastics varied without a strong overall change. Similar trends were found in net-collected floating plastic debris in the North Atlantic subtropical gyre, with a ∼75% decrease in plastic pellets and no obvious trend in user plastic. The decreases in pellets suggest that changes in litter input are rapidly visible in the environment not only close to presumed sources, but also far from land. Floating plastic debris is rapidly “lost” from the ocean surface to other as-yet undetermined sinks in the marine environment.
