Article analysis assignments are common in First Year Writing. This paper argues that animated GIFs are an effective bridge between informal and formal literacies and encourage students to engage in ...the more critical elements of the genre. This article helps instructors to incorporate low-tech and low stakes multimodal elements into their assignment cycles.
Recommendation systems are of great assistance to online in computer science in various aspects of the Internet portals such as social networks and library websites. There are several approaches to ...implement recommendation systems. Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) is one of the popular techniques in topic modeling. Recently, researchers have proposed many approaches based on recommendation systems and LDA. Regarding the importance of the subject, in this paper, we discover the trends of the topics and find a relationship between LDA topics and Scholar-Context-documents. We apply probabilistic topic modeling based on Gibbs sampling algorithms for semantic mining from eight conference publications in computer science from the DBLP dataset. Based on the obtained experimental results, our semantic framework can be effective to help organizations to better organize these conferences and cover future research topics.
This paper presents an account of the development of the sociology of education in the UK, by means of an analysis of papers published in the field's flagship journal, the British Journal of ...Sociology of Education and its US equivalent, Sociology of Education. In particular, we examine the representation of two contrasting traditions in addressing social inequalities: 'political arithmetic'; and the more recent 'cultural turn'. We find that in the UK, the cultural turn dominates; whilst in the US, it is political arithmetic which does so. In accounting for these contrasting national profiles, we argue that they are underpinned by divergent social infrastructure and organisation. We also discuss some of the implications of the dominance of the cultural turn in the UK, specifically in terms of the relationship between the fields of academic research and policy and the development of a cumulative evidence base to address social inequalities in education.
China publishes 5,052 academic journals in science, technology, and medicine. It
ranks third in terms of the number of publications, behind the United States and
the United Kingdom. In recent years, ...English-language journals have increased
annually in China, but there are only just over 300 English journals published,
accounting for about 6.5% of all published journals, whereas Chinese
journals account for about 93.5%. Using 30 years’ data from the
Chinese science citation database (CSCD), I compiled statistics on the average
number of papers, the average number of references, the language of references,
the distribution of author age, etc. I also analyzed the role of Chinese STM
journals in terms of their academic significance. It is observed that the
average number of journal papers and references per paper has been on the rise
in the past 30 years. English literature accounts for a large proportion of the
references, and the authors are young. The conclusion is that Chinese journals
are important for young scholars to publish their papers, and Chinese scholars
widely use international research results for reference in their research.
Misinformation, fake news, and various propaganda techniques are increasingly used in digital media. It becomes challenging to uncover propaganda as it works with the systematic goal of influencing ...other individuals for the determined ends. While significant research has been reported on propaganda identification and classification in resource-rich languages such as English, much less effort has been made in resource-deprived languages like Hindi. The spread of propaganda in the Hindi news media has induced our attempt to devise an approach for the propaganda categorization of Hindi news articles. The unavailability of the necessary language tools makes propaganda classification in Hindi more challenging. This study proposes the effective use of deep learning and transformer-based approaches for Hindi computational propaganda classification. To address the lack of pretrained word embeddings in Hindi, Hindi Word2vec embeddings were created using the H-Prop-News corpus for feature extraction. Subsequently, three deep learning models, i.e., CNN (convolutional neural network), LSTM (long short-term memory), Bi-LSTM (bidirectional long short-term memory); and four transformer-based models, i.e., multi-lingual BERT, Distil-BERT, Hindi-BERT, and Hindi-TPU-Electra, were experimented with. The experimental outcomes indicate that the multi-lingual BERT and Hindi-BERT models provide the best performance, with the highest F1 score of 84% on the test data. These results strongly support the efficacy of the proposed solution and indicate its appropriateness for propaganda classification.
Although access to open and commercial digital sources is easily available thanks to the proliferation of the internet, R&D departments still face the challenge of how to analyze information from ...several sources. This paper addresses this issue specifically when technological and scientific information needs to be analyzed in an integrated manner. 12,577 families of patents, 2601 scientific papers and 706 news articles are combined, normalized and analyzed using their own metadata and text. A software tool is used to extract insights from semi-structured and unstructured data by means of text mining. Additionally, interactive force-directed graph visualization is employed to show the multiple relations of concepts during different time periods with regard to the entire technology ecosystem. Through a case study of 3D printing technology, this paper shows how to apply mashup and obtain the benefits, and it defines the challenges of using interactive visualization representation.
Bibliometric is increasingly used for the analysis of discipline dynamics and management related decision-making. This study analyzes 937,923 keywords from 78,986 articles concerning forest ecology ...and conducts a serial analysis of these articles’ characteristics. The articles’ records, published between 2002 and 2011, were downloaded from the Web of Science, and their keywords were exported by Java processing programs. The result shows that forest ecology studies focused on forest diversity, conservation, dynamics and vegetation in the last decade. Developed countries, such as the USA, Canada, and Germany, were the most productive countries in the field of forest ecology research. From 2002 to 2011, the number of articles published annually related to forest ecology grew at a stable rate, as indicated by the fit produced by a high determination coefficient (R
2
= 0.9955). The findings of this study may be applicable for planning and managing forest ecology research and partners involved in such research may use this study as a reference.
There are several studies that support the importance of advanced expertise and specialization of the neonatal pediatric nurse. However, proceeding with a analysis of the scientific literature ...regarding the nursing advanced competence in neonatology, very few studies specify and define these competences. The aim of the study is investigate and analyze skills, tasks and responsibilities of the neonatal pediatric nurse, to map a "neonatal nurse competence profile", offered from the points of view of the Neonatology Units professionals.
32 professionals (nurses, physicians, psychologists, healthcare assistants) operating in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of two Italian Hospitals were interviewed. The semi-structured interviews have been performed, transcribed and analyzed following the Levati's model (based on Activity, Expectations and Evaluation system).
About the nurses activities, the participants underlined the newborn care, the care of the caregiver and the "bureaucratic" activities. About the system of expectations, the participants marked on specific skills but those are described only comprehensively. About the evaluation system there are different perceptions among the professionals, but the nurses themselves feel that they have to answer for their actions primarily to infants and families, indicating a sense of responsibility towards the patients.
On the basis of the interviews a profile of a neonatal nurse competences has been drawn up. This consists of 42 competences that future studies can further specify, integrate and expand.
The most common methods used in cyber attack detection are signature scan and anomaly detection. In the case of applying these approaches, a countermeasure against an upcoming cyber attack is made ...only if a signature of cyber attack or an anomaly is detected. That means cyber defense systems encounter cyber attacks with no preparation, and our study focuses on this problem. This time, we attempt to discover the useful social data for the prediction of cyber attack motivation and opportunity. For the prediction of cyber attack motivation, the news articles were used as the dataset. As a result, using Artificial Neural Networks and the core keywords extracted from the news articles directly correlated to a cyber attack or the news articles not correlated to cyber attack brought better precision/recall. For the prediction of cyber attack opportunity, the security vulnerability feeds were used as the dataset. The precision/recall of the prediction result was better when using the core keywords as the feature and Artificial Neural Networks as the prediction algorithm.
