Operating the equipment at its full capacity is one of the core objectives of every organization for sustainable production. OEE determines the actual amount of the product to be produced. This study ...was carried out with the aim to investigate the impact of Cleaning, Inspection, Lubrication, and Tightening (CILT) on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). It was found that after the implementation of CILT, OEE has increased by 12% and so the availability (3.12%), performance (16. %), and quality (0.44%). Results of the study confirm that CILT can bring a notable change in the OEE and has the potential to achieve substantial improvement if it implies to the rest of the lines.
For robotaxis, or complex unmanned autonomous systems, prognostics and health management (PHM) technology is significant to support their condition-based maintenance (CBM). This study aims to ...innovatively propose a risk-quantified autonomous maintenance framework to extend the operation of robotaxis and enhance their task completion and safety in the presence of component degradation. Specifically, taking the critical component, the traction motor of the electric robotaxi, as an example, first, a nonlinear degradation model based on the Wiener process is established to accurately predict the motor's remaining useful life (RUL). Next, to achieve a satisfactory balance between control performance and minimum motor degradation, a closed-loop controller considering motor degradation is designed based on model predictive control (MPC) for the speed tracking problem. Finally, this study constructs a risk evaluation function to quantify the travel risk in an emergency when the RUL of the motor is less than the time required for the travel task. The controller's weight matrix will be self-tuned based on the risk value to extend the motor's RUL further. The effectiveness and applicability of the proposed framework and controller are verified by co-simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tests. Results show that adapting the controller parameters to the risk value can extend the motor's lifespan further and improve robotaxi task completion.
The paving molding machine is one of the machines used to produce black paving at PT XYZ. Based on the historical data from the engineering maintenance department, this machine has the highest ...breakdown frequency which affected the low performance and productivity of the machine. To solve this problem, the effectiveness of the paving molding machine was analyzed using overall resource effectiveness (ORE) methods. ORE aims to analyze machine indicators, consisting of readiness, availability of the facility, changeover efficiency, availability of material, availability of manpower, performance efficiency, and quality rate. The ORE analyzed result shows that values of performance efficiency of paving molding machine were 64.54% and still below the standards of the ORE. To increase the ORE, a design of autonomous maintenance (AM) was proposed. The proposed design means the operator is given the responsibility to maintain the basic condition of the machine to minimize the damage of the paving molding machine at PT XYZ. The result of ORE analysis, especially in the performance efficiency, will be an input for the engineering maintenance department to make an AM basic design that can be executed by each of the machine's operators. In general, this research’s novelty is to combine the application of the ORE method with the AM basic design, whereas the AM is one of the pillars of total productive maintenance (TPM).
PurposeThe purpose of this study was to develop and implement a new model to improve maintenance management and the production system through the concepts: maintenance, lean philosophy and Industry ...4.0.Design/methodology/approachThe methodology employed in this study includes conducting a bibliographic survey of existing models exploring the joint application of the concepts under study, critically analyzing these models, developing a model proposal and subsequently analyzing the results obtained. The model is implemented on a belt conveyor of a feed mill to improve its performance.FindingsThe proposed model contributes to improve maintenance and production system management, proving to be a useful tool to improve real-time decision-making. After its application, it was possible to verify that it increased the performance of the conveyor belt, as well as improved the skills of the operators who operate on it.Research limitations/implicationsLimitation about the distance between the devices that make up the model. The implementation of autonomous maintenance can highlight some challenges within the company. The implementation was only in the belt conveyor, being useful to introduce this in the remaining areas of the factory.Originality/valueThe study presents an innovative, versatile, low-cost and easy-to-apply model to improve maintenance management by combining the three concepts. The model can be easily adapted to monitor condition parameters such as temperature, noise, among others, through the correct choice of devices and proper programming. This work also contributed to help in real-time decision-making for both the maintenance and production departments.
The importance of construction automation has grown worldwide, aiming to deliver new machineries for the automation of roads, tunnels, bridges, buildings and earth-work construction. This need is ...mainly driven by (i) the shortage and rising costs of skilled workers, (ii) the tremendous increased needs for new infrastructures to serve the daily activities and (iii) the immense demand for maintenance of ageing infrastructure. Shotcrete (sprayed concrete) is increasingly becoming popular technology among contractors and builders, as its application is extremely economical and flexible as the growth in construction repairs in developed countries demand excessive automation of concrete placement. Even if shotcrete technology is heavily mechanized, the actual application is still performed manually at a large extend. RoBétArméEuropean project targets the Construction 4.0 transformation of the construction with shotcrete with the adoption of breakthrough technologies such as sensors, augmented reality systems, high-performance computing, additive manufacturing, advanced materials, autonomous robots and simulation systems, technologies that have already been studied and applied so far in Industry 4.0. The paper at hand showcases the development of a novel robotic system with advanced perception, cognition and digitization capabilities for the automation of all phases of shotcrete application. In particular, the challenges and barriers in shotcrete automation are presented and the RoBétArmésuggested solutions are outlined. We introduce a basic conceptual architecture of the system to be developed and we demonstrate the four application scenarios on which the system is designated to operate.

Given the above, this article lists the activities of machine operators in terms of methods and tools that allow for a reduction of the number of accidents at work. The market globalization and worldwide competition has raised the level of demand in the industrial sector. Due to this aggressive competitiveness, some management strategies and tools needed to ...start to be applied in the industry. For example, maintenance has become increasingly important in the production planning and strategy of some companies. This work focuses on the implementation of a strategic maintenance plan, applied in an industrial context, namely in a company of Clutches and Hydraulic Controls. The Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodology application was worked on and implemented at two sections, CNC Lathes and CNC Machining Centers, to focus on eliminating losses due to inefficiencies. In this way, the main problems detected in relation to the cells were eliminated. New autonomous maintenance procedures (AM) and preventive maintenance plans with well-defined schedule were also developed. The results obtained were very positive: there was a decrease of 23% in breakdowns in CNC lathes sector and 38% in CNC machining centers sector. In global terms, there was an increase in the availability of the machines and the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of approximately 5%. The implementation procedure and the compromise adopted by the whole company staff and management was the secret to success.
Corrective action on the engine damage is a temporary emergency measure, so further action is required by conducting maintenance activities, prevention of damage (Preventive maintenance), and able to ...detect abnormal symptoms before the machine breakdown occurs. The sudden impact of machine damage resulted in disruption of planned production performance so that it is necessary to identify and analyze the factors that cause the machine damage. Establish maintenance method using Autonomous Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) concept to prevent machine failure from the beginning, through fault tree analysis (FTA) method, failure mode effect, and analysis (FMEA), mean time between failure (MTBF ) is an analytical activity for implementing RCM systems on machines and critical components, able to identify and detect symptoms of malfunction before the machine is damaged. The results of the research get better application of maintenance system so that identification of important components can be anticipated from the symptoms of damage. Overall, there is an increase in performance seen from the increase of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) value, still expected to continue to increase according to JIPM 85% standard value. In conclusion FMEA, FTA, MTBF analysis method can be used to build autonomous maintenance, preventive maintenance and reliability centered maintenance so as to facilitate the production and maintenance in determining the proper maintenance of the machine.
Abstract Finding alternatives to what is generally used in companies allows a different strategic vision to be built, which can lead to different results. In this context, the present study applied ...the Autonomous Maintenance pillar (AM) of the Total Productive Maintenance tool (TPM) in an unusual context. The AM is used to involve the various actors of the company in the conservation of equipment with the aim of improving their performance concerning a reduction of failures and an availability and reliability increase. In the present study, the AM had the objetive of mitigating the generation of waste in the production of a women's shoes industry, installed in a Local Productive Agglomeration (LPA). This APL is composed mostly of micro and small enterprises (MPE) that do not have the culture to using maintenance tools, but in its process generate hazardous waste. It is important to highlight that this kind of company does not typically use the concepts of industrial maintenance. In conclusion, with the implementation of the AM pillar, it was possible to reduce the volume of waste generated in the cutting sector, contrary to the fact that the company does not use the concepts of industrial maintenance in its strategic decisions, thus opening up new strategic possibilities for discussing the use of widely disseminated tools in some areas for other purposes.
Resumo: Buscar alternativas ao que usualmente é utilizado nas empresas, permite construir uma visão estratégica diferenciada, o que pode levar à obtenção de resultados diferentes. Neste contexto encontra-se este trabalho que aplicou o pilar de Manutenção Autônoma (MA) da ferramenta de Manutenção Produtiva Total (TPM) em um contexto diferente do usual. O MA é utilizado para envolver os diversos atores da empresa na conservação dos equipamentos com o objetivo de melhorar seu desempenho no tocante a redução de falhas, aumento da disponibilidade e confiabilidade. Neste trabalho o MA teve como objetivo a de mitigação da geração de resíduos na produção de calçados femininos, instalada em um Arranjo Produtivo Local (APL), composto majoritariamente por micro e pequenas empresas (MPE) que não tem a cultura de utilização de ferramentas de manutenção, mas que em seu processo geram resíduos perigosos. Deve-se salientar que se trata de um ambiente que não utiliza rotineiramente os conceitos de manutenção industrial. Ao final, com a implantação do pilar de MA, foi possível reduzir o volume de resíduos gerados no setor de corte, contrariando o fato de a empresa não utilizar nas suas decisões estratégicas os conceitos de manutenção industrial, abrindo assim novas possibilidades estratégicas para a discussão da aplicação de ferramentas largamente difundidas em algumas áreas com outros propósitos.
