This article outlines the relevance of gender, and its measurement, in providing meaningful insights into marketing research. The authors show that gender has evolved towards a multifactorial ...approach with three main factors: cognitive (with gender identity), affective and behavioral. Gender adds an explanatory dimension to our understanding of consumer behavior beyond biological sex, preferably within a multifactorial approach. The authors also explain when, and how, to apply gender and its measurement, identifying the situations where using gender is relevant, distinguishing between biological, social, cultural and situational contexts.
Studies of human locomotion have found that male and female walkers differ in terms of lateral body sway, with males tending to swing their shoulders from side to side more than their hips, and ...females tending to swing their hips more than their shoulders. Experiments reported here demonstrate that naive viewers can identify the gender of the figure in a biological motion display very reliably when the display contains gender-specific lateral body sway. Sensitivity to gender is high even for displays containing only a fraction of a step cycle. This dynamic cue dominates structural cues based on torso shape (‘centre-of-moment’) when the cues are set in opposition. It is mediated by gender-specific differences in the velocity of shoulder and hip dots, not by positional differences in shoulder and hip dots during the step cycle.

The teaching of the Spanish noun gender system to students is based on a set of generalizations that the last phoneme, or sound, of a noun is an excellent predictor of the gender of that noun (Bull ...1965). These generalized norms have been refined over the years and can be found in most textbooks. The norms are taught to students who then apply them to nouns and can deduce the gender of the noun. However, students still have difficulty determining the gender of nouns accurately, a fact which may indicate that the rules for gender assignment are inadequate. This article examines the pros and cons of the current set of generalizations and applies them to a set of highly frequent Spanish nouns. As a result of this analysis, a newly refined set of generalizations based on frequent nouns is proposed. These new generalizations may be easier for students to learn and correctly apply to deduce the gender of Spanish nouns.
Сопоставительное изучение семантической категории рода/пола в русском и украинском языках показало семантическую соотносительность и сходство описываемой категории: центр семантической категории ...рода/пола в обоих языках образуют существительные, имплицирующие своим лексическим значением релевантный пол; ближайшую периферию составляют существительные, реализующие значение биологического пола преимущественно в контексте, при помощи глагольных форм в прошедшем времени и анафорических местоимений, более отдаленную периферию образуют существительные с квази-полом, которые полностью обслуживаются средствами формальнограмматической категории рода. Выявлены также структурные расхождения: в украинском языке и центр, и периферия представлены тремя грамматическими классами существительных мужского, женского и среднего рода, в то время, как в русском языке только одна часть периферии представлена трехчленной оппозицией. Различия обнаруживаются также в морфологических возможностях двух языков: ограниченность словообразовательных суффиксов в русском языке не обеспечивает потребность в женских названиях лиц по профессиям, специальностям, должностям, тогда как для этого в украинском языке больше возможностей. Анализ показывает различие в семантике соотносительных лексем, при этом наличие звательного падежа в украинском языке, влияет на стилистические оттенки в обращениях. Грамматический строй русского и украинского языков позволяет использовать в формах имени заложенные смысловые оттенки, определяемые родо-половой дифференциацией грамматической и семантической категорий, семантика, заложенная в формах, определяет стилистическую эмоционально-экспрессивную окраску текста и способствует закреплению и сохранению стереотипов. Контрастивне вивчення семантичної категорії роду/статі в російській та українській мовах показало семантичну співвідносність і східність категорії, що описується: центр семантичної категорії роду/статі в обох мовах створюється іменниками, які імплікують cвoїм лексичним значенням релевантну стать; найближчу периферію складають іменники, що реалізують значення біологічної статі переважно в контексті, за допомогою дієслівних форм минулого часу та анафоричних займенників, більш віддалена периферія формується іменниками з квазі-статтю, що повністю обслуговуються засобами формально-граматичної категорії роду. Знайдено також структурні розходження: в українській мові як центр, так i периферія репрезентовані трьома граматичними класами іменників чоловічого, жіночого та середнього роду, в той же час, в російській мові лише одну частину периферії подано тричленною опозицією. Відрізняються й морфологічні засоби двох мов: обмеженість словотворчих суфіксів в російській мові не забезпечує потребу в жіночих назвах професій, фахів, службових посад, тоді як українська мова надае для цього більше можливостей. В ході аналізу виявлено відмінності в семантиці співвідносних лексем, при цьому існування кличної форми в yкpaїнській мові може впливати на стилістичні відтінки в звертаннях. Граматична структура російської та української мов дає змогу використовувати у формах імені закладені смислові відтінки, детерміновані родо-статтевою диференціацією граматичної та семантичної категорій, семантика, яку закладено у формах, визначає стилістичне емоційно-експресивне забарвлення тексту та сприяє закріпленню, збереженню стереотипів.
