This ...research highlights the selection of silica-decorated graphene for the first time to prepare nanocomposite membranes. XRD, Raman, and UV validated the existence of different fillers within the host Polysulfone (PSf), while TEM authenticated their distribution. The burst strength and thermal properties were also investigated for the prepared samples. This study also covered a prudent step towards resolving the dominant ingredients, which routinely appraise the stability and durability of the membranes. These indexes are long-term gas permeation stability up to 120 hours coupled with sustainability against hydrothermal and chemical resistance under various conditions similar to real-life gas separation applications. Finally, the report demonstrates that the nanohybrid integrated membrane systems display optimum performance and stability in all the aspects as compared to their parent counterparts: PSf/mSiO
2
and PSf/GO.
Nonwoven fabrics have grown in popularity in recent years due to their overwhelming usage in a wide range of consumer products. Cotton-based nonwovens are of particular interest because of their ...ability to be recycled and reused, resulting in a more environmentally friendly product compared to their petroleum-based counterparts. The current research characterized the use of cottonseed protein as an additive to increase the dry strength of cotton-based nonwovens. The tensile strength of nonwovens was found to increase as the concentration of protein applied was increased. At 11% protein concentration, the tear strength and burst strength increased significantly (relative to the nonwoven by itself) by 288% (machine direction) and 295%, respectively. Further characterization by thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy suggested that cottonseed protein interacted with the cotton fiber in the nonwoven fabric to produce the increased dry strength.
An established commercial grade SrO doped ZTA composition has been considered to design, fabrication through uniaxial pressing followed by sintering and polishing, validation of dimension, 3D surface ...profile, 3D microstructure, and compressive load bearing capacity of femoral head – acetabular socket liner prototypes for the hip prosthesis. While design and dimensions are concerned, both the steel (HRC60) molds were designed and machined to achieve precious dimensions of femoral head (FH; OD – 30 ± 0.01 mm) and acetabular socket liner (ASL; ID – 30.15 ± 0.01 mm). A close variation in the range of ±0.01 mm was confirmed the precision geometry of polished FH and ASL with consideration of 22 points coordinate measuring method (CMM). 3D surface profile ensures the surface characteristics of Ra = 0.2 ± 0.01 μm and Rq = 0.5 ± 0.01 μm for outer surface of FH and an inner surface of ASL, respectively. Structure integrity and fabrication defects including cracks and pores free bulk structures were confirmed by Micro CT. The compressive load resistance known as burst strength for independent FH and FH-ASL assembly were measured 16.2 KN and 17.6 KN, respectively. The developed ceramic prototypes have an economic advantage and can be adopted as artificial hip prosthesis after extensive in-vitro and in-vivo analysis.
Most paper mills in the Russian Federation consume around 40 % more electrical power than they actually require. The reasons are a low level of technical, scientific, and proficient assistance. ...Moreover, the produced goods have non-competitive consumption characteristics. The urgent current measures in this matter contain constructional and technological optimization, including drying temperature modes. The drying section of a paper machine is the most energy-consuming, while it significantly affects the mechanical strength and supplementary properties of the resulting paper goods with their structural and dimensional characteristics. Drying the paper web takes 72–77 % of the total energy of the paper machine. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of the temperatures of the drying process on the strength and structural-dimensional properties of the paper, with the perspective for further application of the results in the practice of industrial companies and additional scientific investigation. The presented results show the influence of pulp type, beating degree, mass of 1 m2, and drying temperature on the strength and structural-dimensional properties of laboratory samples. Within the investigational process, laboratory samples from sulphate-bleached softwood and hardwood pulp were created and tested. The weights of the samples varied from 60 to 120 g/m2, and the beating degrees ranged from 20 to 50 °SR. The drying temperature extended from 80 to 140 °C. The analysis of the acquired paper samples revealed that the drying temperatures had a considerable impact on the strength, structure, and dimensional qualities of the material. Namely, while sulfate-bleached softwood and hardwood pulp types were used as a raw material, increasing the drying temperature from 80 to 140 °C had the greatest effect on the structural-dimensional properties of the paper made from a pulp with a higher beating degree and the greatest effect on the strength properties of the paper made from a pulp with a lower beating degree. Surgical sealants are an integral part of the surgical toolbox. They are used mainly to seal tissues or suture lines. In the current research, we examined a novel surgical sealant based on the ...natural polymers gelatin and alginate, crosslinked with carbodiimide and loaded with hemostatic agents. Incorporation of the hemostatic agent montmorillonite significantly improved the ex vivo burst strength and the other physical properties (swelling ratio, weight loss, curing time, and viscosity) of the basic surgical sealant, due to the formation of nanocomposite structure. This novel system presents a new approach for improving the physical properties of surgical sealants.
The burst strength is the key parameter to the design of glass-fibre reinforced composite (GFRC) pipes with good performance and security. In this paper, the burst strength and the optimized winding ...angle of the GFRC pipes are derived by the theoretical analysis, experiment and simulation considering the progressive damage. The effects of the winding angle on the burst strength and failure modes are fully discussed. The results show that, the burst strengths obtained by the proposed theoretical formulas and simulation agree well with the experiment results. There is a critical winding angle for the GFRC pipes demarcating the burst modes of axial burst or circular burst. With the increase of the diameter, the critical winding angle decreases, but never less than 55° . With the increase of the winding angle, the burst strength firstly increases, and then decreases. The winding angle of the GFRC pipes should be optimized between 55° and 60° to derive the best burst strength.

In same or different ranges of application,the improvement effect of four burst strength design formulas for single layer thick-walled cylinder is analyzed and compared,the results can be reference for engineers in selecting and determining the design formula.
The textile industry is one of the most essential consumer goods industries, which is also being top environmental polluting. The wastes generated during the production of textile materials can be ...classified as pre-consumer and post-consumer wastes. In most cases, these wastes are either incinerated or dumped into landfills, which in turn have a factor on the environment and economic growths. To reduce these effects, mitigation measures have to be taken to adopt sustainable textile wastes management and restrain the negative environmental impacts. One of such measures is reprocessing the generated wastes into value-added products. Accordingly, this paper investigated the feasibility of converting the pre-consumer wastes known as spinning wastes into nonwoven products. Chemicals such as polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl acetate, cross-linking agent, wetting agent, and acetone were used for the production of nonwoven fabrics through forming chemical bonds between a combed web of short fibers. The conversion of spinning wastes into valuable products will accelerate growth and development by generating additional income and also contributing to environmental conservation.
The Monte Carlo method enables the statistical simulation of the mechanical properties of groups taken from a given population. In the case of composite pressure vessels used for hydrogen storage, ...properties like burst strength or fatigue cycle strength are of interest. This paper provides comprehensive information on how populations are generated and how samples can be taken and evaluated; it also explains how to determine the acceptance rate of random samples from simulated populations for passing the approval test “minimum burst pressure”. A word of caution is also expressed regarding the evaluation of acceptance rates from a small sample.
Colouration of poly (lactic acid) textile materials using pigments is particularly interesting because of the commercial importance of pigment prints and the sensitivity of poly (lactic acid) fibres ...to aqueous treatment; however the processing requires optimisation because of the fibre's heat sensitivity. In this study, poly (lactic acid) fabrics were screen pigment printed and thermally cured at different temperatures, ranging from 120 °C to 150 °C, and curing times, from 3 min to 5 min. Surface sensitive X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) was used to probe the nature of the outer 1–10 nm of the untreated and heat treated poly (lactic acid) surfaces, in order to characterise the surface functionalities and elemental composition. In addition, the effect of curing temperature and time on the performance characteristics of pigment printed poly (lactic acid) fabrics in terms of colour fastness, burst strength, abrasion resistance, Kawabata Evaluation System for Fabrics (KES-F) parameters and surface morphology were evaluated and optimum curing conditions for the pigment printing of poly (lactic acid) fabrics were established.
•PLA fabrics were pigment printed and thermally cured at different conditions.•XPS was used to characterise the surface functionalities and elemental composition.•XPS analysis indicated the damage of PLA fibre at higher curing temperature.•Higher curing temperature and time enabled the formation of more cohesive film.•The most suitable curing condition for pigment printing of PLA was established.
