The article deals with the medieval manuscript library of the former house of the Canons Regular of St Augustine in Prague-Karlov. The text presents extant sources: apart from the manuscripts ...themselves, some of which contain ownership and donation records, there is in particular a medieval list of Karlov manuscripts, made by the abbot Procopius in 1380, and a record of the donation of a large number of codices given to the library by Jan, the parish priest of Dobešov and Černovice, in 1395. The article further analyses them and describes the history of this library on their basis. The core of the study is a description of the surviving part of the library, from which twenty-five manuscripts have been identified. It summarises the physical characteristics of the codices, their dating, provenance, and language classification. Most attention is given to a detailed thematic categorization of the library’s contents.

The article deals with the themes of integration between the different cataloguing and disciplinary descriptive traditions. It initially evaluates the transition phase from methods to established ...practices up to the new solicitations caused by the transformations of information production models. Lastly, the paper focus on the theme of the reconceptualization of domain languages to move on to outline the concept of metacataloguing as a possible descriptive synthesis.

The paper presents an analysis of user tasks in the conceptual models, with an overview of the objectives and functionsof the catalogue from Cutter to the International Cataloguing Principles, a ...critical reflection on user tasks and a proposalfor a rethinking of these. The user tasks as presented in the conceptual models present critical aspects, in particular theydo not bring out some important aspects concerning the users’ motivations for searches and the users’ competences. Thepresentation of some critical aspects of user Ttasks is followed by an initial proposal for a more complex reflection on howusers use catalogues to carry out searches of different kinds.
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of cataloguers motivation on their job performances in public university libraries in South East Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach - ...The study adopted both descriptive and correlational research design. This study was carried out in the South-East zone of Nigeria. It comprises Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States. This area was chosen for the study in view of the fact that the region is well acclaimed as having educational advantage in Nigeria. The population of this study is 157, comprises all the catalogue librarians (professionals and paraprofessionals) who are either previously or currently in the cataloguing section, and employed in the 10 public university libraries in the SouthEast Nigeria. All the librarians were studied. The study employed three instruments to elicit data from the respondents. The questionnaires entitled: Cataloguers Job Performance Questionnaire (CJPQ) and Cataloguers Motivation Questionnaire (CMQ). The Cataloguers Job Performance Questionnaire (CJPQ) was adopted from Williams and Anderson (1991), and Halim and Sefer (2013) Task Performance Scales. A total of 22 items was used to measure the job performance of the respondents. The questions were further subdivided into three factions: Cataloguers Effectiveness; Cataloguers Efficiency; and Cataloguers Leaning and Improvement. The Cataloguers Motivation Questionnaire (CMQ) was adapted from Halim and Sefer (2013) motivation scale and modified by the researcher. A total of 18 items was used to measure the motivation of the respondents. Data obtained from the study were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Percentages, mean and bar chart were used to analyze data. Findings - The findings of the study among others reveals that cataloguers were more efficient in their job performance, followed by their effectiveness to their job performance, and then their learning and improvement. It was agreed that the cataloguers felt well motivated, while the relationship between cataloguers motivation and their job performance is moderate and positive. Originality/ Value - The stereotyped and routine nature of cataloguing and classification tasks call for established staff motivation strategies for cataloguers, if their job performances must be improved on. There might have been resources dealing with how to improve cataloguers job performance especially through motivation; but little might have delved into the component elements of efficiency, effectiveness, and improvement. This study will raise important issues that relate to nature of job performances, ascertaining cataloguers motivation, and determining the relationship between cataloguers motivation and their job performances.
The authors evaluate the symbolic value of the 91 rules published in 1841, as incipit of the first volume of the Catalogue of printed books of the British Museum, declaring its founding basis, and ...legitimizing the growing reputation of Antonio Panizzi at the same time. Monument of the élites and Trustees of the British Museum Library, the 91 were preceded by 73 rules, printed and distributed only among the cataloguers of the library in March 1839. The essay explains the existence of a normative stratification and evolution of the rules (oral tradition, limited circulation, revision and wider diffusion) and therefore the need for an archeology of knowledge’s approach. The novelties of the first cataloging code reside in the passage from an empirical to a conscious approach to the functions of the catalogue, while the printing of the catalogue is considered by Panizzi an antieconomical manifestation. The catalogue had not yet found its expressive paradigm, consolidated only today in the format of an open digital work, constantly updated.

Rock quality designation (RQD), as a well-accepted and appliable rock quality index, is crucial in geotechnical engineering. Current RQD estimation mainly relies on either manual statistics or the ...image binarisation method, while the former approach surrenders high labour intensity and low efficiency and the latter one is constrained by image acquisition. Considering the above-mentioned limitations in RQD estimation, this study proposed a novel convolutional neural network (CNN) approach to automatically perform core recognition and RQD cataloguing with significant improvement in accuracy and efficiency. Firstly, the proposed neural network automatically identified the prefabricated round markers to distinct drilling rounds. To maximumly strengthen the engineering capability of CNN without losing generality, we considered image inversion, rotation, noise addition, and RGB conversion of 200 core box samples in total. Secondly, replacing the unstable image binarisation method, the advanced YOLO V2 object detection model, a single-stage real-time object detection model, was adopted in this study. We also proposed the modified four-layer downsampling structure as our CNN, and then developed an automatic recognition approach for both cores and the round markers, resulting in a 93.1% accuracy according to the validation set. Thirdly, this study proposed an auto-ranking algorithm to sequence the core sample according to the confidence of core recognition by the CNN and row-scanning results for subsequent RQD cataloguing. In addition, the optimal scan width was proved to be 1.33 times larger than the average core width. Finally, a quick cataloguing platform for drill cores was developed. Compared with manual measurement and visual statistics, intelligent RQD cataloguing is characterised by its unparalleled accuracy and efficiency, which is merited by the low relative error (1.84%) and fast processing time (around 0.2 s). Moreover, the application presented in this paper is applicable to most geotechnical engineering scenarios. This is attributed to its low requirements in image acquisition, high efficiency, precise recognition, and robustness.
