In the economy of the library of the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu Romania, an important place is taken by the collection of about fifteen thousand volumes, mostly in the humanities. These were ...donated by Pimen Constantinescu, the first librarian and manager of the University of Cluj Library, Sibiu Branch. More than 515 reviews can be identified as part of the donor’s collection: many of these works are literary magazines, fiction, poetry, criticism and other writing. The aim of this study is to present a history of this valuable collection, from its establishment up until today. The research starts from the context which brought Pimen Constantinescu to Sibiu, his personality, his concerns and his motivations. Furthermore, we identify the growth and means of organisation of this cultural heritage that was threatened with destruction under the communist regime. There are no studies directly concerned with the history of this collection. We will however try to find links between Pimen’s appraisals on Romanian publishing activities and similar studies. Although Pimen subscribed to the most important journals in the country, we will focus especially on those which are less well-known, particularly emphasizing those less highlighted by studies on the Romanian history of press.
KUL Library constitutes an excellent workplace for scholars from many fields, including theologians, historians, philologists who study the achievements of Isidore of Seville - a great erudite, ...author of the famous Etymologiae, an outstanding teacher and tutor of medieval Europe. The library collection includes all his scriptures, edited by J.P. Migne (volumes 81-83 of Patrologiae Latinae), also in the form of critical editions in recent collections and series. In addition, it has numerous publications, although published before 1990, dedicated to the life and legacy of Isidore, primarily by J. Fontaine, as well as the works referring to the times and cultural environment of the encyclopaedist. Isidore was a compiler, so it is crucial for a researcher dealing with Isidore to be acquainted with his sources - works of classical authors and Christians, Greek and Latin writers and poets, which are also in the collections of KUL Library. The Bishop of Seville’s knowledge was of a literary character, but related to God and the whole world created by him. The library contains the literature necessary for the researcher, who, wishing to understand Isidore-a specialist, should educate himself in these fields of knowledge on which Isidore worked. Difficulties arising from the lack of necessary publications in the library are effectively resolved by taking advantage of the effectively functioning Interlibrary Loan. In recent years, KUL Library has been enriched with modern tools such as the Electronic Card Catalog and Digital Library. Providing access to scientific databases enables readers to find works on Isidore, which are written in the most remote corners of our planet. The staff of the Library deserve special gratitude. They are consistently competent, helpful and dedicated to their work. Their knowledge and kindness are the second – apart from the extensive collection - magnet which attracts numerous readers (also the ones working on Isidore) to KUL Library from all over the country.

This article prepares catalogers for the new cataloging standard Resource Description and Access (RDA) by giving trainers and Library and Information Science (LIS) educators the information they need ...to plan training for themselves and their staff or students. The theoretical principles of RDA are introduced as well as the corresponding vocabulary that trainers will need to use. This is followed by an overview of the structure of RDA as compared to the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd ed. (AACR2). Examples of rule changes and options are highlighted for trainers along with a reminder to review existing cheat-sheets and manuals that are based on AACR2. Finally, types of training formats are suggested.
This article examines teaching new catalogers "in" Resource Description and Access (RDA). An analysis of training courses (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, second edition AACR2 and RDA) from the ...Courtauld Institute of Art is presented, focusing on publication, introductory material, and relationships. It is found that the change to RDA training is a complex mix encompassing content, structure, and pedagogy. "Teacher knowledge"-an education studies conceptual model-in particular, pedagogical content knowledge, is used as an additional analytical tool. Teacher knowledge helps explain why some training topics take longer to rework for RDA than others and how existing knowledge of cataloging remains useful even when teaching "novel" cataloging rules.
The exceptional contribution of Felix Kanitz to Bulgarian scientific and cultural development is an occasion to present to Bulgarian and European public his artistic and documentary heritage, to turn ...again our attention to the personality and the significant achievements of the great explorer of the Balkans in the 60s and 70s of the nineteenth century. Kanitz`s imagery and literary heritage belong to the most valuable elements of our material and spiritual culture. In the prospect of association of our society to the European community Kanitz`s works should be understandably promoted in the scientific space so as to point out Felix Kanitz`s cultural contributions to Bulgaria and to better identify his relationship with both the national Bulgarian identity and the Balkans and European nations. The artistic works and literary heritage of F. Kanitz which have been preserved until today are valuable elements of the common European material and spiritual culture. The time has come for them to be presented correctly in the scientific world and through the new communication technologies to become available for the public. The Scientific Archive and the Central Library of BAS have a mutual project for specifying and broadening the knowledge about the life and work of Kanitz, and for digitalizing and publishing pages of his private archives. This is a responsible researchers` task which has an important significance for affiliating the Bulgarian culture into European cultural environment.
This study investigated the development of a scheme for the classification of school library resources in school libraries in Nsukka Enugu state. The research questions basically investigated ...existing schemes used in the classification of school libraries, nature of resources available in the school libraries, resources required for the classification of the school libraries, development of a scheme for the school libraries, problems associated with the classification of school library resources and strategies for the implementation of the scheme in school libraries. The population of the study consists of school librarians and education authorities. The study used frequency mean and percentage to analyze quantitative data while data from interview and document analysis schedule were analyzed using essay/narratives. Among other things, the findings revealed that there is no available scheme used in the classification of school library resources in the area studied, there is also not adequate resources/tools (human, material and ICT) for the classification of the school library resources. On the problems associated with the classification of school library resources, findings revealed that on a greater scale, there are inadequate qualified personnel in the cataloguing and classification of school library resources, there are not enough space/accommodation for the classification of the materials, there are too many resources to be catalogued with less skilled personnel, fund is inadequate for the execution of daily cataloguing expenses, government policies are quite unfavourable to school libraries and that there are not enough resources for persons with learning or physical disabilities.Based on the findings, the researcher recommended the following as strategies for the implementation of the scheme viz; appropriate authorities should ensure full implementation of the developed scheme for the classification of school library resources, adequate provision of resources (both books and non-book resources) should be made available, appropriate standard accommodation should be made available to house the librarys collections as well as create reading/study space for the pupils and students, suitably qualified school librarians should be employed to handle the professional task of classification of school library resources, fund should be made readily available for the overall development of school libraries in Nsukka education zone of Enugu state, government policies should take school library development as a major priority and therefore should make policies favorable for the development of school libraries, there should be regular training, re-training and supervision of the school libraries to ensure that the scheme is judiciously and correctly implemented.
In recent years, studying connections between the human being and environment along with nature has been looked at as a topic of significant value for literary researchers. Thus, the emergence of ...eco-critical approach in the countries, which use English as their first language, holds the first position in this respect. This harmony of the two has been discussed for a while in world literature. This research studies literature review and pinpoints the positive view been presented by looking at eco-criticism. The methods used are textual analysis approach and eco-critical approach. The major points of this study are to investigate the main theme and shed light on it and the way William Wordsworth used his writings to protect the environment from destructions and the writer used eco-criticism or ecology in his works in his time. The environment and ecology in William Wordsworth’s poems are the two things which have been dealt with because poems can serve human beings and make them aware of protecting the environment from pollution. This research consists of several essential points about the literature and nature as well as ecology. Besides, the paper presents an introduction about Englandin the nineteenth century, romanticism, and characteristics of romanticism as these are interrelated with eco-criticism.
We live in a highly volatile technological environment, in which the generation of new data and information access tools has increased the level of specialization of the users’ information needs. In ...this changeable scenario, standards and the role of librarians must also evolve along with the services provided to users. The lack of specialization in standards is leading librarians to improvise local solutions when cataloguing specialized resources, thus failing to benefit global interoperability among libraries, and with other institutions and initiatives. As different cataloguing standards, as well as many conceptual models, point out the necessity to deal with the specific users’ needs, the main goal of this paper is to advocate for meeting those needs through the development of metadata standards. In particular, our methodology consists in showing and explaining the needs of a particular type of users (astronomers and astrophysicists) and proposing the inclusion in the standards of elements important for the description of historical astronomical resources. Through an example, we show not only the feasibility of application of these elements, but also how the enhancement of the level of specialization of the standards, and therefore of the records made under their rules, can definitely contribute to a global solution for a much improved scientific information retrieval.
