The balanced management and development of the territory requires the development of the concept of sustainable development of the territory. In addition to the sustainable development of the ...territory, it is necessary to ensure the balance of all the main aspects that determine the sustainable development of the territory. The search for an optimal balance of urban area development is the most important task which requires the development of scientific methodologies.
The article deals with the principle model of agglomeration in the context of the aspects of sustainable development of the territory. In the model the assessment is carried out in two stages. The purpose of the first stage is to determine the degree of balance of the territory on a particular aspect. The purpose of the second stage is to determine the degree of compliance of the urban planning organization of the territory with the conditions of sustainable development of the territory.
In order to create a strategy for the development of urban space it is necessary to monitor the urban planning condition of the territory, as well as to assess its compliance with the conditions for sustainable development of the city territory.

While the location of different assemblies seems to have been determined by logistical practicalities and the choice of certain kinds of topographic feature, power relations may also have played a crucial part in dictating their setting. After the eleventh/twelfth centuries in Norway, royal regulation of things and markets increased. The locations of many types of gathering remained consistent, however, but the thing system in particular seems to have offered a mechanism for consolidating royal power.
In this paper, we propose a conceptual framework for the design of multifractal urban or regional development plans that adhere to five planning principles: hierarchical polycentric urban ...development; transit-oriented development; locally dense residential development; penetration of green areas into built-up areas across several nested scales; preservation of interconnected networks of natural and green areas having various sizes. This conceptual planning framework is based on multifractal spatial modelling, which is intrinsically multiscalar. The GIS-based software application Fractalopolis (current version 1.0) is used to apply this conceptual framework to real-world case studies. Fractalopolis helps to define where to create new housing units and new facilities in accordance with the planning principles set out above. We use Fractalopolis to create a multifractal development plan for a medium-sized French metropolitan area, namely Besançon, for the year 2026. This plan allows a realistic “soft” transformation the Besançon metropolitan area in keeping with the five planning principles set out above and makes the region more multifractal.

Using field data for the 1980s and historic material, I show how the central places of networks crucial for regional and long-distance trades in the Moluccas between 1600 and the present were often ...environmentally vulnerable volcanic islands and low-lying reefs. After reviewing existing data on hazards, and evaluating the evidence for erosion and degradation, I suggest how resilience has been historically achieved through social and material exchanges between islands, accommodating the consequences of specific perturbations. Reinterpretation of published data shows how inter-island trade has re-organised patterns of biological interaction spatially and over the long term, helping us assess whether, in the face of climate-change effects, such areas are zones of robustness or of potential fragility.
Resumo O patrimônio ferroviário é formado por estruturas complexas, em interações socioespaciais – implantadas como uma rede –, vinculadas à história do desenvolvimento científico-tecnológico e à ...memória social. Assim, elas carregam atributos valorativos portadores de interesse patrimonial. Entretanto, não é possível preservar tudo, é necessário fazer uma seleção criteriosa pautada em argumentos relevantes. Este artigo propõe um arranjo teórico – inspirado na abordagem sistêmica, associada às noções de rede, nodalidade e centralidade –, capaz de fornecer fundamentos analíticos imprescindíveis à identificação, em uma rede ferroviária, das estruturas espaciais e suas relações, caracterizadas como lugares centrais. Tais estruturas, por serem as mais importantes à dinâmica funcional dessa rede, são detentoras de potencial à preservação. É uma proposta, instigada pela iminente perda de estruturas ferroviárias, símbolos representativos de identidades coletivas. A discussão centra-se no primitivo sistema ferroviário implantado no Recife, como parte da Rede Ferroviária Nordeste (Brasil). Esse sistema polarizou funções essenciais, conformando centralidades, em relação aos demais pátios da Rede e nodalidades, ante as inter-relações estabelecidas com as demais redes que recobrem o território. Figuram, portanto, como Lugares Centrais.
To understand the development of complex socio-political phenomena, we need to study not just the origins of central places, but also their emergence. This can be accomplished by taking an historical ...perspective where we position ourselves before the occurrence we wish to study. Data from the Georgia Archaeological Site File are presented to explore the Late Woodland and Early Mississippian (ca. A.D. 600-1,100) settlement landscape which contextualized the emergence of two prominent Mississippian mound centers: Macon Plateau (also known as Ocmulgee) and Etowah. Our results suggest that the Etowah River valley supported a denser population who had formed attachments to particular points in the landscape compared to the region surrounding Macon Plateau during the Late Woodland to Early Mississippian transition. These social landscapes provided different contexts for the origins of each Mississippian center and influenced later trajectories of cultural development and settlement in each region.
Urban shrinkage is a remarkable phenomenon that cannot be convincingly explained by existing theories on urban growth and is closely linked to the global supply chain (SC) nodes in the labour market. ...This paper shows how a municipality in which an activity SC cell (production or service) is located as a node in the SC graph can be made more attractive for industrial activities and human resources, more sustainable, and less shrinking, through appropriate tax policies and investments in the infrastructure of the central places—cities where production or services are located. To this end, we developed the decision support model for the joint control of urban rightsizing by SC managers and local authorities. In the model we linked the extended material requirements problem (MRP) with a normalised asymmetric gravity model. The paper outlines how local authorities and institutions, when planning for the growing intensity of production or services, in a city where the number of workers is insufficient, should take into account the impact of taxation as well as investment in the infrastructure of a municipality, and not just net wages, in order to attract human resources. They need a decision support model for their negotiations on the rightsizing of the city. The objective was to develop a model of fiscal mechanisms in the interactive decision making processes of local authorities and SC managers to control the availability of labour in the city where production or services are running and need to grow because SC managers want to increase production or services but the available labour force is shrinking. A case study in Slovenia shows how local authorities and SC managers should work together to maintain a sustainable activity cell in a functional region of the urban agglomeration where this production or service is located. It models how to plan the rightsizing. Such an integrated policy best achieves the desired intensity of the supply chain, thereby avoiding the relocation of activities outside the region, which allows unsustainable flows of human resources and uncontrolled shrinking of a city or region.
The accessibility of services of general interest (shops, post offices, banks etc.) in rural hinterlands is decreasing and villages that once supplied areas with services are losing their functions ...in the central settlements’ network. According to the current analytical framework the key challenges of supply are people’s dependence on car transportation, lack of village shops and other basic services, and e-services replacing location-based services. This paper examines the current dynamics of the supply of basic goods in the Idrijsko-Cerkljansko region of Slovenia. Using mixed methods approach, the paper covers a historical overview of service provision by a field survey and historical analysis, as well as an analysis of demand and supply, done via an online questionnaire. The aim of the paper is to combine the findings into a proposal for an optimized alternative supply network integrating good practices such as linking providers, promoting local products and reopening of village shops.
