The paper contains mathematical-geographical and topographical analysis of the medieval XI century church of the Holy Cross in the city of Nin (Croatia). The motive for performing the analysis was a ...widely accepted opinion, which was based on the statements presented in the book “Number of the Light” (Pejaković, 1978) - that the orientation of the church has a solar meaning, or, more precisely, that the obvious irregularities in the construction of the church were a result of the master builder’s intention to create a building which would simultaneously serve as a house of prayer, a calendar and a sundial. However, the results of this analysis do not prove this tempting story: the orientation of the church of the Holy Cross is dictated by the orientation of the surrounding earlier buildings, in the midst of which the church was constructed, while the distortions of the ground plan are a consequence of the medieval master builder’s lack of education (and not of his intention to adapt the ground plan to the geometry of the Sun). Although it is a misperception, the theory on the solar meaning of orientation of the church of the Holy Cross is not completely without meaning: for the first time on the territory of ex Yugoslavia, this theory drew attention to the importance of investigating the meaning of orientation of medieval churches.
Pastor Kazimieras Žodkevičius consecrated the foundation stone of Kaunas Holy Cross church in 23 July 1685, and bishop of Vilnius Kazimieras Bžostauskas consecrated the almost completed construction ...of the temple in 27 July 1700. In this church an unregulated frescoes cycle of the Via Crucis was created at the end of the 17th c. This Way of the Cross consists of seventeen images and the sculpture of the Crucifix. In Lithuanian sacral art only one cycle of the Via Crucis is of this kind. In this article the frescos are analyzed comprehensively for the first time, recognizing the picture narratives and analyzing the iconography and artistic expression as far as possible (The frescoes are in poor condition, not restored.). The aim of this article is to reveal the iconology of Jesus Christ‘s Way of Sorrows that is depicted in frescoes cycle and to reveal the theological meaning. That is why the main focus is on the original images. In addition, the former interior equipment, i. e. the 17th c. altar ensemble, is very important for this research. The current equipment is discussed only in so far as relates to the unsuccessful 19th c. interior conversion. Also, the surviving frescoes are analyzed in the context of the Via Crucis devotion. A portion of the illustrations are published for the first time.

A Polish Prelude Brokken, Jan
The Music of the Netherlands Antilles,

Book Chapter
This chapter deals with the reason for the book’s curious subtitle: the presence of eleven Antilleans at the service held in the Warsaw church to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Fryderyk ...Chopin’s death in October 1999 where the composer’s heart is kept in an urn, whilst the rest of his mortal remains lie in Paris. The item which Brokken had read in a German newspaper triggered him to start writing the book based on notes he had been taking.
Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- At the request of Wardell Armstrong LLP, Wardell Armstrong Archaeology were commissioned by Green Switch Solutions Ltd to undertake ...an archaeological evaluation of land at Rew Farm, Melksham, Wiltshire centred on Ordnance Survey grid reference ST 9377 6173, in support of a planning application for the construction of a solar farm at the site. A geophysical survey of the site at Rew Farm was conducted by Wardell Armstrong Archaeology in June 2014 and a series of curvilinear and linear magnetic anomalies were detected, which may have represented soil-filled enclosure ditches. As a result a trial trench evaluation of the site was requested by Wiltshire County Council, in order to provide further information regarding the archaeological potential of the site. This was undertaken over five days between the 11th and 19th of August 2014 and comprised the excavation of fifteen 30 metre long trenches across the four fields affected by the potential development. These were positioned to investigate both geophysical anomalies and blank areas in the geophysical survey. Three trenches contained significant archaeological features and deposits. Trench 3 contained two roughly north-south linear features, an east-west ditch and another feature difficult to interpret within the confines of the 1.5 metre wide trench. All the features contained quantities of Roman pottery. Trench 4 contained linear features which may be related to those recorded in Trench 3. They also contained Roman pottery and were aligned north-south and east-west. To the east of these linears was a spread of material that also contained pottery as well as animal bone and charcoal fragments. At the west south-west end of Trench 5 a cremation burial was encountered. No archaeological features or deposits were noted in the other trenches excavated.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Crkva Sv.
renesansne utvrde. Promjenom urbanistickih uvjeta vjerojatno dolazi do naglašavanja južnoga portala.
Reforma crkvenih institucija kralja Josipa II. 1786. dovodi do napuštanja crkve, koja se ponovno obnavlja
prema kraju 19. st. te 1912. god. Ovih godina u tijeku su konzervatorsko-restauratorski radovi.
