The aim of this article is to fill the informative gap and to overcome those difficulties which arise in case of not having the adequate interpetation or exact definition of the English idioms in the ...Georgian dictionaries.This paper investigates some idiomatic expressions and observes how often they are used in the modern English publicist texts from “The Guardian”, “Fortune”, “The Scotsman”, “The Independent” etc. whether they have preserved their original meanings or obtained some other new senses and coloring. More than this, the goal is to research if there is an adequate translation or interpretation of those English idioms in the Georgian language bilingual dictionaries. If there is not any, then the objective is how to make their adequate Georgian equivalents and, as a result to compose a new mini-dictionary of idioms. The urgent need for etymological study of idioms is also stimulated by the fact that the phraseology condensates the complex interaction of the culture and psychology of people, national self-being and their unique metaphoric mentality
The reaserch value is dectated by its outcome, namely, it will be the research not only of those idioms which have the adequate definitions in the Georgian dictionaries, but find out some cases of not having the right definition and in result to compile the mini be-lingual dictionary of idioms. It can be assumed, that it will make a siginificant contribution to the development of lexicography in Georgia.
The paper deals with the Polish word raport and the Russian word рапорт that are similar in sounding. The issue of which lexical borrowings in the Russian language should be considered polonisms is ...being resolved. We start with the review of the word raport dictionary descriptions in Polish lexicographical sources. It shows the change in the lexical meaning of the studied word over time. In a similar way we analyze the lexicographical description of the Russian word рапорт. The study proposes an analysis of relevant examples from mono-, bi- and polylingual dictionaries. The article presents the results of the corpora data study. The contexts of raport word usage in the National Corpus of Polish and рапорт word in the Russian National Corpus, as well as the ways of these words’ translations from Polish into Russian and from Russian into Polish, are being studied and presented. It is concluded that the polysemantic word (five meanings) in Polish when borrowed to Russian splits into three words: рапорт (first and second meanings), раппорт (third and fourth meanings) and раппорт (fifth meaning), the last two words with change in graphic appearance, reflecting the original spelling in French. If in Polish the correlation of the first meaning of the lexeme under study with military art disappears with time, in Russian, on the contrary, it develops.
This paper presents a review of the many dictionaries of psychology published in Latin America between 1916 and 2000. Information was retrieved from publishing house catalogs, databases, archives and ...libraries, and academic curricula, as well as through consultations with specialists in the history of psychology. The article mainly highlights those works that have become widely disseminated in the region. Within this framework, it foregrounds works produced by local authors, as well as foreign works translated into Spanish and Portuguese. The paper also makes reference to various thematic dictionaries, such as those of social psychology and psychoanalysis. Overall, it is argued that the widest dissemination of dictionaries in Latin America took place after the mid-twentieth century, when universities introduced psychology majors and an audience of psychology specialists had emerged.
This article concerns the Dictionary of Old Bohemian Hymnographers (Slovník staročeských hymnografů, Prague 2017, 522 pp.), which lists the authors of Czech, German, and Latin sacred songs and ...hymnbooks from the thirteenth through the eighteenth centuries. The text opens with definitions of hymnography and hymnology as applied in this dictionary. There follow comments on the history of German and Czech hymnology. The author then comments on his own work on the volume RISM B XIII (Hymnologica Slavica, 2012) and reports on the project Das deutsche Kirchenlied as well as on his edition of printed melodies (EdK). The next section of the text deals with the current status of Czech hymnology and its future tasks. The article concludes with the author’s comments on the creation and contents of the Dictionary of Old Bohemian Hymnographers.
