Abstract
Topological complex transient electromagnetic fields give access to nontrivial light-matter interactions and provide additional degrees of freedom for information transfer. An important ...example of such electromagnetic excitations are space-time non-separable single-cycle pulses of toroidal topology, the exact solutions of Maxwell’s equations described by Hellwarth and Nouchi in 1996 and recently observed experimentally. Here we introduce an extended family of electromagnetic excitation, the supertoroidal electromagnetic pulses, in which the Hellwarth-Nouchi pulse is just the simplest member. The supertoroidal pulses exhibit skyrmionic structure of the electromagnetic fields, multiple singularities in the Poynting vector maps and fractal-like distributions of energy backflow. They are of interest for transient light-matter interactions, ultrafast optics, spectroscopy, and toroidal electrodynamics.
In this monograph, the authors propose a systematic and rigorous treatment of electromagnetic field representations in complex structures. The architecture suggested in this book accommodates use of ...different numerical methods as well as alternative Green's function representations in each of the subdomains resulting from a partitioning of the overall problem. The subdomains are regions of space where electromagnetic energy is stored and are described in terms of equivalent circuit representations based either on lumped element circuits or on transmission lines. Connection networks connect the subcircuits representing the subdomains. The connection networks are lossless, don't store energy and represent the overall problem topology. This is similar to what is done in circuit theory and permits a phrasing of the solution of EM field problems in complex structures by Network-oriented methods.

In the framework of a mesoscopical model for dielectric media we provide an analytical description for the electromagnetic field confined in a cylindrical cavity containing a finite dielectric ...sample. This system is apted to simulate the electromagnetic field in a optic fiber, in which two different regions, a vacuum region and a dielectric one, appear. A complete description for the scattering basis is introduced, together with field quantization and the two-point function. Furthermore, we also determine soliton-like solutions in the dielectric, propagating in the sample of nonlinear dielectric medium.
Radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are used to enable a number of modern devices, including mobile telecommunications infrastructure and phones, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. As radiofrequency EMFs ...at sufficiently high power levels can adversely affect health, ICNIRP published Guidelines in 1998 for human exposure to time-varying EMFs up to 300 GHz, which included the radiofrequency EMF spectrum. Since that time, there has been a considerable body of science further addressing the relation between radiofrequency EMFs and adverse health outcomes, as well as significant developments in the technologies that use radiofrequency EMFs. Accordingly, ICNIRP has updated the radiofrequency EMF part of the 1998 Guidelines. This document presents these revised Guidelines, which provide protection for humans from exposure to EMFs from 100 kHz to 300 GHz.

Some epidemiological studies have suggested possible associations between exposure to extremely low‐frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF‐EMFs) and various diseases. Recently, ELF‐EMF has been ...considered as a therapeutic agent. To support ELF‐EMF use in regenerative medicine, in particular in the treatment of skin injuries, we investigated whether significant cell damage occurs after ELF‐EMF exposure. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was evaluated in the human keratinocyte exposed for 1 H to 50 Hz ELF‐EMF in a range of field strengths from 0.25 to 2 G. Significant ROS increases resulted at 0.5 and 1 G and under these flux densities ROS production, glutathione content, antioxidant defense activity, and lipid peroxidation markers were assessed for different lengths of time. Analyzed parameters of antioxidant defense and membrane integrity showed a different trend at two selected magnetic fluxes, with a greater sensitivity of the cells exposed to 0.5 G, especially after 1 H. All significant alterations observed in the first 4 H of exposure reverted to controls 24 H after suggesting that under these conditions, ELF‐EMF induces a slight oxidative stress that does not overwhelm the metabolic capacity of the cells or have a cytotoxic effect.
We study the sensitivity of possible CLIC and FCC-ee measurements of light-by-light scattering to old and new physics, including the Heisenberg-Euler Lagrangian in the Standard Model with possible ...contributions from loops of additional charged particles or magnetic monopoles, the Born-Infeld extension of QED, and effective dimension-8 operators involving four electromagnetic field strengths as could appear in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. We find that FCC-ee measurements at 365 GeV and CLIC measurements at 350 GeV would be sensitive to new physics scales of half a TeV in the dimension-8 operator coefficients, and that CLIC measurements at 1.4 TeV or 3 TeV would be sensitive to new physics scales Formula omitted TeV or 5 TeV at 95% CL, corresponding to probing loops of new particles with masses up to Formula omitted TeV for large charges and/or multiple species. Within Born-Infeld theory, the Formula omitted CL sensitivities would range from Formula omitted GeV to 1.3 or 2.8 TeV for the high-energy CLIC options. Measurements of light-by-light scattering would not exclude monopole production at FCC-hh, except in the context of Born-Infeld theory.
