Abstract Vergil interweaves the varying meanings of amor , from not only a positive force, to aggressive desires and to all its varied aspects, making it both harsh, deceptive and cruel, and ...conversely something very special reflecting things most cherished and respected.
Compreendemos então o olhar favorável reservado a Aquiles no discurso.
The article considers a significant aspect of Strada per Roma, namely the narcissistic personality of the main protagonist, the young Guido Corsalini, and the sensual valence of Paolo Volponi's early ...poetic production written at the same time of this novel. To this end, the essay traces, also in the light of analytical doctrines on the subject, but not only, Guido's inner journey, focusing on those episodes that highlight an Ego of the character that has remained emotionally stuck at an infantile age. Indeed, it will be the experience of intimacy with Barnaba, the separation from his childhood friend Ettore, that will mentally project Guido into a different, more adult and conscious mental atmosphere, on the streets of Roma.
In order to understand the geological evolution of asteroids Eros, Itokawa and Ryugu and their collisional history, previous studies investigated boulder size distributions on their surfaces. ...However, quantitative comparison of these size distributions is hampered by numerous differences between these studies regarding the definition of a boulder's size, measuring technique and the fitting method to determine the power-index of the boulder size distributions. We provide a consistent and coherent model of boulder size distributions by remeasuring the boulders on the entire surfaces of Eros and Itokawa using the Small Body Mapping Tool (SBMT) and combining our observations with the Ryugu data of Michikami et al. (2019). We derived power-indices of the boulder size distributions of −3.25 ± 0.14 for Eros, −3.05 ± 0.14 for Itokawa and −2.65 ± 0.05 for Ryugu. The asteroid with the highest number density of boulders ≥ 5 m turns out to be Ryugu, not Itokawa, as suggested by an earlier study. We show that the appearance of the boulders tends towards more elongated shapes as the size of an asteroid decreases, which can be explained by differences in asteroid gravity and boulder friction angles. Our quantitative observational results indicate that boulder migration preferentially affects smaller boulders, and tends to occur on larger asteroids.
•First comparative survey free from observer bias of boulders on Eros, Itokawa and Ryugu.•Boulders appear to be more elongated as the size of an asteroid decreases.•Boulder migration preferentially affects smaller boulders and larger asteroids.
The chaperone protein EROS (“Essential for Reactive Oxygen Species”) was recently discovered in phagocytes. EROS was shown to regulate the abundance of the ROS-producing enzyme NADPH oxidase isoform ...2 (NOX2) and to control ROS-mediated cell killing. Reactive oxygen species are important not only in immune surveillance, but also modulate physiological signaling responses in multiple tissues. The roles of EROS have not been previously explored in the context of oxidant-modulated cell signaling. Here we show that EROS plays a key role in ROS-dependent signal transduction in vascular endothelial cells. We used siRNA-mediated knockdown and developed CRISPR/Cas9 knockout of EROS in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), both of which cause a significant decrease in the abundance of NOX2 protein, associated with a marked decrease in RAC1, a small G protein that activates NOX2. Loss of EROS also attenuates receptor-mediated hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and Ca2+ signaling, disrupts cytoskeleton organization, decreases cell migration, and promotes cellular senescence. EROS knockdown blocks agonist-modulated eNOS phosphorylation and nitric oxide (NO●) generation. These effects of EROS knockdown are strikingly similar to the alterations in endothelial cell responses that we previously observed following RAC1 knockdown. Proteomic analyses following EROS or RAC1 knockdown in endothelial cells showed that reduced abundance of these two distinct proteins led to largely overlapping effects on endothelial biological processes, including oxidoreductase, protein phosphorylation, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) pathways. These studies demonstrate that EROS plays a central role in oxidant-modulated endothelial cell signaling by modulating NOX2 and RAC1.

•The chaperone protein EROS (“Essential for Reactive Oxygen Species”) is abundant in endothelial cells and regulates oxidant-modulated signal transduction.•EROS is required for the expression of the NADPH oxidase isoform2 (NOX2) and the small GTPase RAC1.•EROS deletion impedes cell proliferation, migration and promotes cellular senescence in human umbilical vein endothelial cells.•EROS is essential for critical oxidant signaling, posttranslational modifications and nitric oxide bioavailability.•EROS deletion disrupts the pro-oxidative NOX2/RAC1 axis, leading to cytosolic reductive stress and resulting in endothelial cell dysfunction.
Cerebrospinal and structural‐molecular neuroimaging in‐vivo biomarkers are recommended for diagnostic purposes in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other dementias; however, they do not explain the ...effects of AD neuropathology on neurophysiological mechanisms underpinning cognitive processes. Here, an Expert Panel from the Electrophysiology Professional Interest Area of the Alzheimer’s Association reviewed the field literature and reached consensus on the event‐related electroencephalographic oscillations (EROs) that show consistent abnormalities in patients with significant cognitive deficits due to Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s (PD), Lewy body (LBD), and cerebrovascular diseases. Converging evidence from oddball paradigms showed that, as compared to cognitively unimpaired (CU) older adults, AD patients had lower amplitude in widespread delta (>4 Hz) and theta (4–7 Hz) phase‐locked EROs as a function of disease severity. Similar effects were also observed in PD, LBD, and/or cerebrovascular cognitive impairment patients. Non‐phase‐locked alpha (8–12 Hz) and beta (13–30 Hz) oscillations were abnormally reduced (event‐related desynchronization, ERD) in AD patients relative to CU. However, studies on patients with other dementias remain lacking. Delta and theta phase‐locked EROs during oddball tasks may be useful neurophysiological biomarkers of cognitive systems at work in heuristic and intervention clinical trials performed in AD patients, but more research is needed regarding their potential role for other dementias.

Due to contamination on the outer optic of the NEAR-Shoemaker Multispectral Imager (MSI), all surface-resolved images of Eros acquired by MSI had wavelength-dependent degradation. The MSI team ...designed and implemented a preliminary correction for the blur during mission operations and archived the results with the original camera data. While successful for most filters, the preliminary correction had edge effect artifacts and was less effective for the 450 and 1050 nm passbands. Here we implement a new correction, based on the MSI team's original process, to improve the blur remediation for all MSI filters, particularly those at the extreme wavelengths. The new method improves the effective resolution of the deblurred images over the preliminary remediation for all filters. Moreover, for all filters, our method preserves the 21–39% of the pixels that were lost (or obscured by artifacts) with the preliminary remediation. We apply the new method to the complete MSI dataset of resolved Eros images and archive the results for future scientific use.
•New blur remediation for NEAR MSI produces higher fidelity images of the surface of asteroid Eros.•The remediation technique utilizes new PSF designs and symmetric tapered padding to minimize deconvolution artifacts.•The technique increases the usable image area by 21–39% over the original remediation.•Remediation code and improved images have been publicly archived.
