Impact-induced seismic vibrations have long been suspected of being an important surface modification process on small satellites and asteroids. In this study, we use a series of linked seismic and ...geomorphic models to investigate the process in detail. We begin by developing a basic theory for the propagation of seismic energy in a highly fractured asteroid, and we use this theory to model the global vibrations experienced on the surface of an asteroid following an impact. These synthetic seismograms are then applied to a model of regolith resting on a slope, and the resulting downslope motion is computed for a full range of impactor sizes. Next, this computed downslope regolith flow is used in a morphological model of impact crater degradation and erasure, showing how topographic erosion accumulates as a function of time and the number of impacts. Finally, these results are applied in a stochastic cratering model for the surface of an Eros-like body (same volume and surface area as the asteroid), with craters formed by impacts and then erased by the effects of superposing craters, ejecta coverage, and seismic shakedown. This simulation shows good agreement with the observed 433 Eros cratering record at a Main Belt exposure age of

, including the observed paucity of small craters. The lowered equilibrium numbers (loss rate
=
production rate) for craters less than ∼100 m in diameter is a direct result of seismic erasure, which requires less than a meter of mobilized regolith to reproduce the NEAR observations. This study also points to an upper limit on asteroid size for experiencing global, surface-modifying, seismic effects from individual impacts of about 70–100 km (depending upon asteroid seismic properties). Larger asteroids will experience only localized (regional) seismic effects from individual impacts.
Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD) is an inborn error of immunity characterised by opportunistic infection and sterile granulomatous inflammation. CGD is caused by a failure of reactive oxygen ...species (ROS) production by the phagocyte NADPH oxidase. Mutations in the genes encoding phagocyte NADPH oxidase subunits cause CGD. We and others have described a novel form of CGD (CGD5) secondary to lack of EROS (CYBC1), a highly selective chaperone for gp91phox. EROS-deficient cells express minimal levels of gp91phox and its binding partner p22phox, but EROS also controls the expression of other proteins such as P2X7. The full nature of CGD5 is currently unknown. We describe a homozygous frameshift mutation in CYBC1 leading to CGD. Individuals who are heterozygous for this mutation are found in South Asian populations (allele frequency = 0.00006545), thus it is not a private mutation. Therefore, it is likely to be the underlying cause of other cases of CGD.

Due to contamination on the outer optic of the NEAR-Shoemaker Multispectral Imager (MSI), all surface-resolved images of Eros acquired by MSI had wavelength-dependent degradation. The MSI team ...designed and implemented a preliminary correction for the blur during mission operations and archived the results with the original camera data. While successful for most filters, the preliminary correction had edge effect artifacts and was less effective for the 450 and 1050 nm passbands. Here we implement a new correction, based on the MSI team's original process, to improve the blur remediation for all MSI filters, particularly those at the extreme wavelengths. The new method improves the effective resolution of the deblurred images over the preliminary remediation for all filters. Moreover, for all filters, our method preserves the 21–39% of the pixels that were lost (or obscured by artifacts) with the preliminary remediation. We apply the new method to the complete MSI dataset of resolved Eros images and archive the results for future scientific use.
•New blur remediation for NEAR MSI produces higher fidelity images of the surface of asteroid Eros.•The remediation technique utilizes new PSF designs and symmetric tapered padding to minimize deconvolution artifacts.•The technique increases the usable image area by 21–39% over the original remediation.•Remediation code and improved images have been publicly archived.
The paper deals with the analysis of Ibikina kuća, the first published story by Aleksandar Tišma and one of his most important works. The aim of the paper is to shed light on the author's idea of 'a ...house of love' whose fate was affected by World War II. Aleksandar Tišma often dealt with the issues of prostitution and brothels in his work. The analysis will provide an insight into the effects of the war on the existential change in the structure of the brothel and on its owner. Furthermore, the parallel between the fate of the brothel and that of Ibika-from their rise to their degradation-will be emphasized.
We present results from a shape-based, rotationally-resolved thermophysical model of near-Earth asteroid (433) Eros, using reflected and near-IR spectra collected at the NASA Infrared Telescope ...Facility (IRTF) over 18 nights (25 disk-integrated spectra in total) from 2009 to 2019. The data sample a variety of viewing geometries, illumination angles, and rotational phases and therefore allow us to characterize Eros's surface physical properties in detail, particularly at wavelengths in the thermal near-IR regime (λ > 3.5 μm) that were not measured by the NEAR Shoemaker mission. Eros's shape, spin state, density, albedo, and other physical properties measured by NEAR were incorporated into our model, leaving thermal inertia and surface roughness as free parameters. We find that a thermal inertia range of 100–150 J m−2 K−1 s-1/2 and a roughness crater fraction of 0.3–0.4 with crater opening angle 130° (equivalent adirectional rms slope angle of 32° +/− 4°) fit data from 18 spectra at the 1σ level, but do not fit the remaining 7 spectra. This suggests that Eros's thermal properties vary over its surface, which has important implications for linking remote sensing data to spacecraft measurements of the physical properties of near-Earth asteroids.
•We obtained 25 spectra of near Earth asteroid (433) Eros from 2009–2019 using the SpeX instrument at the NASA IRTF.•Our data are rotationally-resolved with global coverage of Eros's surface at multiple viewing and illumination geometries.•Our set of near-IR spectra is one of the largest ever obtained for a single asteroid with ground-based telescopes.•We fit thermophysical models to all spectra, aided by Eros's already-known shape, spin state, and other properties.•Thermal spectra from Eros's different regions cannot all be fit by the same pair of thermal inertia and surface roughness.
In its first section, the essay takes into account some erotic episodes of the Inamoramento de Orlando and tries to define Boiardo’s idea of eros; in the second, it confronts the erotic views ...expressed in the Inamoramento with those of Ludovico Ariosto’s Furioso and Berni’s Rifacimento. Views and conceptions about sex changed a lot between the last phase of Ferrarese Humanism and the start of the Counter-Reformation era: as the essay suggests, these changes in morals and taste lead to differences in the way erotical contents were expressed by poets.

In this article we analyze the trajectory of becoming the protagonist Orlando, from the novel Femei de iasomie by Ionel Buşe, through the erotic game and the facets of love. The women, the portraits ...of whom the novel is imparting, influence and shape various sociocultural contexts, moods, the relation of the ego to the self and, with them, their meaning as an archetype of meaning. The mystical love for Ligia-Victoria is, in fact, a hermeneutic of the self, of the discovery of the exit from the historical reality, hysterized by the new human condition – the Covid, and of the transformation of human consciousness through the flow from carnal to platonic love. The jasmine house with all its derivatives – the old, Victoria, Maia, the portrait of Ligia, expresses the profound fusion of the masculine and feminine into an archetypal self. In this way, beyond erotic adventures and sexual ecstasies, the protagonist, through a process of individuation, discovers eros as a mystical manifestation in a context of constraints such as pandemic. The hermeneutical investigation follows the analysis of female figures and the phantasms of eros for to order the whole soul of the hero.
