This study examined how comprehension-based silent reading rate (CBSRR) is affected by grade, genre, and text position. Second and fourth graders read 2 grade-specific passages (one narrative, one ...informational) in 4 sections, each followed by 4 comprehension questions. Analyses of rate with a criterion level of comprehension showed higher performances on informational than narrative texts and better performances as students moved through sections of a text. Percentages of students attaining CBSRR decreased across the four sections of both genres and at both grade levels. Implications of findings are discussed and question are raised about text complexity and silent reading patterns.

Neither do stations imitate either ordinary peers or the so-called kingmaker radio stations who are wrongly believed to be able to make or break a single. Instead, Rossman shows that hits spread rapidly across radio because they clearly conform to an identifiable style or genre. Radio stations respond to these songs, and major labels put their money behind them through extensive marketing and promotion efforts, including the illegal yet time-honored practice of payoffs known within the industry as payola.

This paper explores the forms and functions of intertextuality in academic tweets composed by research groups. Academic tweets are dialogic and intertextual texts, usually composed by incorporating ...other voices and taking up text-visual elements from other contexts. Based on the analysis of 300 tweets taken from the Twitter accounts of four research groups in two different disciplines (Chemistry and Medicine), this study investigates the ways in which intertextual practices contribute to the communicative purposes of the genre. The analysis shows that the affordances of Twitter (e.g. hyperlinking, modularity, multimodality) and the purpose of academic tweets shape the forms and functions of intertextuality in these tweets. When composing these tweets academics both reconfigure well-established forms of intertextuality and display novel forms which help them to promote their research, negotiate their relationships with their readers, and share content with diverse audiences.

Die Schulen, ihre Lehrer und Absolventen trieben die Transformation Mitteldeutschlands in eine blühende Musiklandschaft voran. Diesen Prozess zeichnet das Buch detailliert nach und entwirft dabei ein musikhistorisches Panorama der Reformation, das vom 13. Jahrhundert bis zum Beginn des Dreißigjährigen Krieges reicht. Die Studie füllt damit nicht nur musikhistoriographische Lücken, sondern beschreibt auch eine der bedeutendsten musikalischen Kulturlandschaften des alten deutschen Sprachraums.

An investigation of sexual themes in electronic music since the 1950s, with detailed case studies of “electrosexual music” by a wide range of creators. In Sex Sounds, Danielle Shlomit Sofer ...investigates the repeated focus on sexual themes in electronic music since the 1950s. Debunking electronic music's origin myth—that it emerged in France and Germany, invented by Pierre Schaeffer and Karlheinz Stockhausen, respectively—Sofer defines electronic music more inclusively to mean any music with an electronic component, drawing connections between academic institutions, radio studios, experimental music practice, hip-hop production, and histories of independent and commercial popular music. Through a broad array of detailed case studies—examining music that ranges from Schaeffer's musique concrète to a video workshop by Annie Sprinkle—Sofer offers a groundbreaking look at the social and cultural impact sex has had on audible creative practices. Sofer argues that “electrosexual music” has two central characteristics: the feminized voice and the “climax mechanism.” Sofer traces the historical fascination with electrified sex sounds, showing that works representing women's presumed sexual experience operate according to masculinist heterosexual tropes, and presenting examples that typify the electroacoustic sexual canon. Noting electronic music history's exclusion of works created by women, people of color, women of color, and, in particular Black artists, Sofer then analyzes musical examples that depart from and disrupt the electroacoustic norms, showing how even those that resist the norms sometimes reinforce them. These examples are drawn from categories of music that developed in parallel with conventional electroacoustic music, separated—segregated—from it. Sofer demonstrates that electrosexual music is far more representative than the typically presented electroacoustic canon.
Technological convergence has affected the media context of generalist television, modifying access and the consumption of content. The design of the scheduling of the general-interest linear ...television is a key element in understanding the policies that the operators follow when offering genres and formats, and in observing the similarities and differences between public and private ownership. This article analyses the television schedules of 25 generalist channels, public and commercial, operating in Germany, Spain, France, Italy and the United Kingdom. Some of the findings of this investigation show a) little diversity of genres, b) that the editorial policy of public broadcasters clearly differentiates them from private ones by prioritizing informational offerings, national fiction, and documentary info-shows, and c) strategic differences of genres by ownership in each country.

The book illustrates the many dimensions of interpreting music through a series of case studies drawn from the classical repertoire, but its methods and principles carry over to other repertoires just as they carry beyond music by workingthroughmusic to wider philosophical and cultural questions.
We analyzed in the article the experience of a study, in the field of research-intervention, in which the objective was to implement and evaluate a didactic sequence with textual genres in ...mathematics classes in the early years of elementary school. The data were produced based on the activities developed in a 4th grade class, in which the possibilities, perspectives and limits of performance were monitored. The work with textual genres is justified because it deals with a proposal that aims to contribute to the process of mathematical literacy in the perspective of literacy mathematical. Relating the teaching of mathematical content to the mother tongue has been a relevant aspect of research and practice in that the children are appropriating both the alphabetical writing system and the calculation procedures, as was noticed in the research results.
