BACKGROUND: Validated tests for the quality of movement patterns are important to help teachers to assess and induce positive performance changes. However, few tests are available for handball sport ...skills.
AIM: Therefore, we developed and validated a checklist to assess dribbling with a jumping throw.
METHOD: First, three handball experts were invited to verify if the checklist which contained all the components that describe the skills, and the logical validity process. Then, fifty participants, aged 8 -12 years old, performed the skill of dribbling with a horizontal jumping throw, fifteen of them were re-tested one week apart. Two raters were also selected to conduct an intra- and inter-rater objectivity assessment. McNemar tests were used to compare the proportion of proficient and non-proficient performance between raters. Cohen’s k tests were used to test the intra and inter-rater objectivity. The intra-class correlation coefficient was used to estimated reliability (test-retest).
RESULTS: The results confirmed that the checklist contained the necessary criteria to characterize the skill and to discriminate children with different proficiency levels. Moderate-to-high inter-and intra-rater agreements were found. Children's performance pre and post-test were highly reliable.
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the proposed checklist can reliably analyze the movement pattern of the dribbling with horizontal jumping throw – which can be highly useful for teachers and sports coaches.
BACKGROUND: In handball, speed and accuracy are essential characteristics for the performance of throwing.
AIM: To verify the effects of manipulation of task constraints during the throws on ...kinematic variables in amateur handball players.
METHOD: 18 amateur handball players (18-27 years) made 10 throws to the target with a focus on speed and 10 throws with a focus on accuracy. The kinematic analysis of the throwing was performed, and the Student's t-test was used.
RESULTS: Greater velocity, and hand, acromion, and iliac spines trajectories for throws with a focus on speed in cocking phase was observed. During the acceleration phase, there was greater velocity, and trajectory of the right upper posterior iliac spine, and less time and hand, acromion, and left upper posterior iliac spines trajectories for throws with a focus on speed. The throw with a focus on speed showed greater shoulder and elbow angles at the beginning, and greater elbow angle at the end of throwing.
CONCLUSION: The manipulation in the focus of the throw influenced the movement strategy from the cocking phase to the acceleration phase according to the movement intentionality, with most of the variables presenting greater values in the throw with a focus on speed.
Sport seems to be the main cultural activity when it comes to generating interest in the population, as a business that moves billions of euros, due to the emotions and passions generated in the ...fans. According to different authors, the emergence of digital marketing techniques, social networks, and online communication, positions them as the main tools to reach fans (customers), who are now digital natives. The aims of this work were: (a) to explore and better understand the scientific studies on the application of these techniques in handball; and (b) to compare the positive effects of digital marketing and online communication in handball. This systematic review conforms to the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. The databases consulted were the Web of Science and Scopus. The results provided 40 articles, although only six met all the inclusion criteria. These records show the link between online communication and handball. The study shows that when digital marketing and online communication techniques are applied, the results are more beneficial both in economic and sporting terms, despite the notable limitation of publications in this regard.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of COVID-19 on maintaining balance in highly skilled handball players during the performance of the modified Romberg test.
As part of a larger ...investigation that was initiated in 2019, twelve professional handball players were recruited to participate in a study that was designed to measure static balance performance. Following the initial pre-test, six participants (body height 184.8 ± 4.7 cm; body weight 85.5 ± 3.3 kg; age 21.3 ± 1.2 years) contracted COVID-19. The remaining six participants (body height 188.7 ± 2.6 cm; body weight 92.3 ± 3.7 kg; age 26.3 ± 3.3 years) never tested positive for COVID-19 and pre-sumably were not infected with the virus. The experimental design required all participants to complete an initial balance assessment (pre-test) and a later balance assessment (post-test). To fully analyze our data, we conducted a 2 (condition: COVID, no-COVID) X 2 (test: pre-test, post-test) ANOVA with repeated measures on the second factor.
Our research results showed that the skilled handball players who contracted COVID-19 mani-fested a significant decrease in balance performance from the pre-test which occurred prior to being infected with COVID-19 relative to the post-test which occurred following the COVID-19 infection.
In conclusion, the results we have reported here are the first to show an objectively measured association between COVID-19 and the ability to maintain balance. Further intensive multifaceted research on this issue is needed.
BackgroundNon-contact anterior cruciate ligament injuries during sidestep cutting typically occur rapidly after contact between the foot and the ground with little time for athletes to correct ...movement patterns. Technique feedback aiming at safe posture at initial ground contact might prove valuable in reducing frontal plane knee joint loading.ObjectiveTo assess the immediate effects of individualized technique feedback during sidestep cutting on selected technique variables and peak external knee abduction moments.DesignInterventional study.SettingBiomechanical laboratory.Participants48 adolescent female elite handball players.InterventionsPlayers performed three preplanned handball-specific sidestep cuts on each leg while 3D biomechanics were recorded. Following these cuts, players received tailored technique feedback on their foot strike angle, knee valgus angle, or vertical impact velocity based on cut-off values drawn from an existing data set. If multiple technique variables exceeded their cut-off, variable selection was based on its established relation with performance. Following feedback, three more cuts on each leg were performed.Main Outcome MeasurementsPeak external knee abduction moment and selected technique variables.ResultsFeedback aimed at pronounced forefoot landings and reduced knee valgus angles improved technique immediately (+12.7°, p < .001, Figure a and +1.5°, p = .022, Figure b, respectively) and reduced peak external knee abduction moments (-13.4%, p = .003, Figure d and -17.1%, p = .020, Figure e, respectively). Feedback aimed at reduced vertical impact velocities improved technique immediately (-19.0%, p = .010; Figure c); however, peak external knee abduction moments were unaffected (p = .328; Figure f), owing to the variable’s unclear relation with technique and therefore lowest priority and smallest sample size.Abstract 589 Figure 1ConclusionsIndividualized feedback can induce sidestep cutting technique changes immediately, thereby successfully decreasing peak external knee abduction moments and potentially injury risk. Improving technique without sacrificing performance might prove attractive to coaches and players alike.

The aim of this research was to define differences in functional and mechanical characteristics of isometric hand grip (HG) strength between young female handball players and the CG comprised of ...physically active girls with no experience in sport. 70 individuals participated in the research, 36 of whom were the best young female handball players (of cadet and junior categories) while 34 girls comprised the CG. The results obtained show that the young female handball players who took part in the tests achieved Fmax at the levels from 306.4±40.8 to 335.5±47.0 N and RFDmax at the levels ranging from 1918.1±366.8 to 2174.4±382.1 N/s for the non-dominant and dominant hand. When these results are compared to the ones achieved by the CG it is clear that the young female handball players had a statistically significant higher level of the maximum HG force of both arms as well as the higher level of maximum explosiveness. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups regarding all the indexes of dimorphism (ID) as well as the values of the time needed for achieving the maximum intensity of muscle excitation (tRFDmax). Therefore, it can be concluded that the handball players who underwent the testing procedures showed positive adaptation from the aspect of the mechanical characteristics of hand grip strength, which can most likely be ascribed to the phenomenon of biological adaptation to the training stimuli characteristic for handball. However, the same influence was not detected from the aspect of functional characteristics, more precisely, dimorphism.
