Carex distachya Desf. is a circum-Mediterranean species. Since 1985 two varieties have been distinguished, C. distachya var. distachya and C. distachya var. phyllostachioidea Ö.Nilsson. The former is ...widespread, while the latter is considered to be restricted to West Türkiye and the East Aegean Islands, but our research has revealed that C. distachya var. phyllostachioidea is much more widespread in the south-east of Europe, in Croatia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, and mainland Greece. It seems to have been overlooked in these countries so far. As C. distachya var. phyllostachioidea occurs in the East Mediterranean region, we have therefore raised this taxon to subspecies level. Our research has also shown that the differences between the two subspecies are less clear than initially suggested. An upgraded key is therefore added.
Three new oribatid mite species of the family Scheloribatidae (Oribatida)Dometorina (Dometorina) robusta sp. nov., Phylloribatula latiseta sp. nov., Scheloribates (Scheloribates) paraflagellisetosus ...sp. nov.are described, based on adults collected from tree branches of Dipterocarpus alatus in southern Vietnam. Representatives of Dometorina (Dometorina) and Phylloribatula are recorded in the Vietnamese fauna for the first time. An identification key to the known species of Phylloribatula is provided.

Centropristes fusculus Poey, 1861 historically has variously and somewhat perplexingly been assigned to Centropristis Cuvier, 1829, Prionodes Jenyns, 1840, and Serranus Cuvier, 1816. Here, we provide ...evidence from comparisons of morphology, ecology, and sexual systems for its inclusion in Serranus and redescribe the species based on the holotype and 60 specimens from Brazil, the Caribbean, the United States, and Uruguay. Serranus fusculus is a simultaneous hermaphrodite, a sexual system that is relevant to its generic placement. The inclusion of Serranus fusculus in the genus Serranus increases to 33 the number of currently valid Serranus species, of which two are found in the Western Indian Ocean, six in the eastern Pacific and 25 in the Atlantic Ocean (15 restricted to the western Atlantic and 10 to the eastern and Central Atlantic). An identification key to western Atlantic species of the genus is provided.
Among mayflies, Baetidae are often considered as easy to recognise at the family level, but difficult to identify at lower level. In several faunistic or ecological studies, the identification ...remains at the family level; Baetidae are generally considered as widespread and ubiquitous, therefore as poorly informative for ecological studies or bioassessments. Here, a straightforward identification key is offered to larvae of the ten genera of Baetidae reported from Maghreb based on easily observable and understandable characters. The diversity, ecology, and distribution of each taxonomic unit (genera or subgenera) are discussed and the main difficulties for deeper identification are pointed out. Future challenges and remaining taxonomic riddles for Maghrebian Baetidae are detailed.
After revision of diagnostic characters of Renocera (either non-genitalic or genitalic) a new identification key for Palaearctic species is offered. The key takes into account the variability of the ...number of orbital setae in R. striata. Genitalic characters are discussed. The authors find diagnostic use of the shape of surstyli more difficult and less reliable than the shape of sternites 5. As follows from rich examined material, all three species of Renocera have the same trans-Palaearctic distribution — they are restricted to the forest belt.
