meditation on how environmental change and the passage of time
alter and transform the meanings-and sometimes appearances-of works
created to inhabit a specific place. James Nisbet offers fresh
approaches to well-known artworks by Ant Farm, Rebecca Belmore,
Nancy Holt, Richard Serra, and Robert Smithson. He also examines
the work of less recognized artists such as Agnes Denes, Bonnie
Devine, and herman de vries. Nisbet tracks the vicissitudes wrought
by climate change and urban development on site-specific artworks,
taking readers from the plains of Amarillo, Texas, to a field of
volcanic rock in Mexico City, to abandoned quarries in Finland.
Providing vital perspectives on what it means to endure in an
ecologically volatile world, Second Site challenges
long-held beliefs about the permanency of site-based art, with
implications for the understanding and conservation of artistic
creation and cultural heritage.

Desde el dibujo como gesto, huella personal y testigo de nuestra interrelación con el ecosistema en el que vivimos, a las caminatas de los Walking-artists donde el gesto se hace dibujo, caminar y dibujar se muestran como actividades impulsadas por un mismo afán de ampliar el horizonte y aprehender nuevos territo-rios tanto físicos como conceptuales. Ambas ponen el cuerpo en movimiento y nos llevan a la toma de conciencia de nuestra unicidad existencial. Son ges-to, recorrido, trayectoria y también conquista, toma de posesión, delimitación. El resultado en ambas crea una línea. Caminar y dibujar son acciones que, al aumentar nuestra conciencia del aquí y ahora y del entorno, pueden llegar a transformar nuestra reflexión estética, ofreciendo un espacio privile-giado para la formación de un pensamiento crítico capaz de dar respuestas éticas y de producir un significativo cambio social, especialmente en esta época de crisis climática.
Agustín Ibarrola creó en 1999 una obra artística sobre rocas y árboles en el Ecoespazo O Rexo, en Allariz, Ourense. El deterioro progresivo de la pintura, muy evidente en los últimos tiempos, ...preocupó a sus gestores, que buscaron colaboración para dar solución a los problemas de conservación que presenta el conjunto. Este texto comparte los resultados del estudio de esta obra, que abordan la complejidad de su creación, el estudio de técnicas y materiales y el análisis de su estado de conservación. Finalmente, se hace una propuesta para su conservación tras cotejar el tratamiento recibido por obra análoga del mismo artista.
The contribution investigates the role of the bird’s eye view in perception and thus in the design of buildings and the city. The development of satellite technologies and their use on a large scale ...is considered a threshold towards a new way of conceiving architecture. In fact, the web allows virtual trips around the world and, the first interface with the city and its architecture is often the view offered by satellite image software. Their wide use, also as navigation tools, has changed the way of relating to the city. Whereas once the first interface between the building and the visitor was the façade, today the roof is often the first visible element. This change has also had an impact on the design of new buildings. For example, technical rooms are increasingly being hidden by roofs, and replaced by garden roofs, which are more attractive for viewing from above. Similarly, large-scale urban interventions, from the expansion plans of artificial islands in gulf countries to the mammoth buildings erected in deserts, follow geometries that are easily recognizable from above. They often use formal expedients –symmetrical shapes, bright colors, large logos– already in use in airport design, conceived to be seen from the privileged height of an aircraft. The democratization of the processes of viewing from above has led to a rethinking of the processes of communicating architecture, which no longer interfaces with the limited audience of flesh-and-blood visitors, but with the broader audience of people connected to the web.

The first academic volume to theorize and historicize contemporary artistic practices and culture from Chile in the English language, Dismantling the Nation takes as its point of departure a radical ...criticism against the nation-state of Chile and its colonial, capitalist, heteronormative, and extractivist rule, proposing otherwise forms of inhabiting, creating, and relating in a more fluid, contingent, ecocritical, feminist, and caring worlds. From the case of Chile, the book expands the scholarly discussion around decolonial methodologies, attending to artistic practices and discourses from distinct and distant locations—from Arica and the Atacama Desert to Wallmapu and Tierra del Fuego, and from the Central Valley, the Pacific coast, and the Andes to territories beyond the nation's modern geographical borders. Analyzing how these practices refer to issues such as the environmental and cultural impact of extractivism, as well as memory, trauma, collectivity, and resistance towards neoliberal totality, the volume contributes to the fields of art history and visual culture, memory, ethnic, gender, and Indigenous studies, filmmaking, critical geography, and literature in Chile, Latin America, and other regions of the world, envisioning art history and visual culture from a transnational and transdisciplinary perspective.

In Landscape into Eco Art , Mark Cheetham systematically examines connections and divergences between contemporary eco art, land art of the 1960s and 1970s, and the historical genre of landscape painting.

The article discusses the changes that occurred in textile art in the 20th century. Land art emerged in the 1960s as the desire of artists to interact with nature and landscape architecture and ...reflect on environmental problems, which contributed to the emergence of similar textile artworks. Comparing the works of textile land art by foreign and domestic artists allows us to identify common features and differences between them and analyze trends in creative search. Detailed consideration is given to the exhibition artworks of Russian masters at the 4th Triennial of Textile Art and Modern Tapestry, which show the diversity of approaches to the creation of artworks among artists. They are of interest for art history research as an example of Russian textile art evolution.

When Robert Smithson visited Passaic, New Jersey, the town where he was born, he recognized in the deserted sandbox a 'model desert' and a 'sandbox monument.' Following Smithson's lead, this ...narrative will thread spatial instances that explore how a box full of sand, where children usually play, could encapsulate the potency of some vast barren lands eliciting war and destruction, burial, and death. In the hands of some players, the sandbox also becomes a monument to unattainable lands, a monument to the passage of time-a playground to a future yet to come.
