Europe and its Languages: The Fluctuating Ambiguity. Humanity has never given up the quest for the perfect language. From the lingua franca to the construction of a perfectly rational multilingual ...algorithmic code that would deliver us from what we believe to be the curse of Babel; automatic language processing has revived the dream of a standardized multilingual communication tool, fully motivated, transparent, angelic, without loss or redundancy. But the more analytically coherent and semantically bi-univocal a language is, the less able it is to signify the world and ideas. Indeed, speaking is not just about communicating, it is also about putting thought into dialogue with itself, so that it can exist with others in the polis. By delegating the encounter between people to artificial intelligence, has mankind been foolish enough to try to resolve the “faltering equivocality of the world”? Let us explore how European thought, since Antiquity, has envisaged the essence of language; perhaps we can catch a glimpse of Europe’s Being?
2004 marked a turning point in the linguistic policy elaborated and implemented in the Basque Country, in particular due to the transformation of the Public Authority, composed of the State, the ...Aquitaine Region, the Department of the Atlantic Pyrenees and the Intercommunal Syndicate for the Support of Basque Culture, into the Public Office of the Basque Language. This shows the will of the public authorities to return to a more classic scheme of local governance, with public authorities on the one hand and associative actors on the other, brought together in a Consultative Committee, and their desire to put in place a more ambitious public policy in favour of the revitalisation of the Basque language. But what about the structure, foundations and objectives of this language policy? These are the questions that this article tries to answer.
Faced with the migration of Senegalese people to the city of Rio Grande, RS and the linguistic difficulties that stand out as their survival needs, it is noticed a lack of a language policy of social ...impact aimed at this group. In this article, we discuss methodological proposals for the teaching of Portuguese as a hosting language (GROSSO, 2010) for migrants and refugees based on the language policies adopted in Brazil. According to Action-Oriented Approach on Language Teaching (JANOWSKA, 2014; PUREN, 2009), Task-based Approach (ELLIS, 2000; JA-NOWSKA, 2014, SHIBAYAMA, 2017, WILLIS, 2012) and the analysis of some specific didactic materials for immigrants, it will be presented a proposal of foreign language teaching that goes beyond the linguistic training, aiming at the development of discursive competences and promoting reflection on the relation of language with the guarantee of the human rights for the full integration of migrants into society.
L’internationalisation est devenue une priorité des politiques des établissements d’enseignement supérieur. Cependant ces collaborations internationales, dans une situation où prédomine ...l’anglo-américain (au moins dans le monde occidental), posent des problèmes de politique linguistique et de didactique des langues. Les plus évidents sont ceux de la ou des langues utilisées dans les formations et par les enseignants eux-mêmes. Le choix des langues enseignées a de fortes incidences sur la nature des connaissances transmises, dans un marché des connaissances dont les enjeux ne sont pas uniquement cognitifs. Quant à l’enseignement de langue étrangère ou en langue étrangère, il a à tenir compte du fait que l’appropriation d’une langue ne se réduit pas à celle de ses formes, car les pratiques langagières sont des pratiques culturelles, ce qu’enseigne l’anthropologie linguistique, au moins depuis Hymes.
Cette étude a pour but d’analyser l’arabe algérien, qui, malgré sa constante évolution comparée à la langue arabe standard et la langue française, n’est toujours pas reconnu comme langue officielle, ...mais plutôt comme langue maternelle. De ce fait, il est essentiel de réaliser une étude descriptive-quantitative, afin de comprendre cette réalité linguistique. Ce travail de recherche vise, donc, à contextualiser la sociolinguistique d’une part mais aussi à réaliser une étude d’analyse à travers un questionnaire de recueil des préférences linguistiques des algériens. Les résultats obtenus nous permettent d’identifier les domaines dans lesquels l’arabe algérien est le plus utilisé et à proposer des recommandations pour la planification de la politique linguistique en Algérie.

The Roman world was a multilingual community. Aiming on one side to ensure effective communication (as Latin was not so widely known and spoken) but not to encourage nationalistic revivals on the ...other, Romans choose Greek as an additional official language. Indeed, Greek, by then already deprived of any national character, was already used as a ‘lingua franca’ in the eastern Mediterranean. Despite Jewish tendency to refer to Hebrew as a mark of national and religious identity, early Christianity adopted (and maintained until the second half of the II century) Greek as its own language. This choice was not only due to practical considerations related to communication needs, but also to more ‘political’ reasons, and therefore it must be framed in the more general friendly approach to the Roman empire which was always taught during his life by Jesus and was practiced by him even in front of Pilate.
The article highlights the peculiarities of interference in the languages of national minorities that inhabit the territory of Bessarabia. It is connected with both historic and geographical ...background and of the regional language policy grounded on tolerance, common spiritual inheritance and variability of the lingual sphere.
