The article on the presence of ancient inspirations in the writings by Wincenty Korab-Brzozowski’s focuses on recalling mythical figures in his poetry, prose and paraphrases of this author. The ...analysis of selected works proceeded with the use of a comparative method – a juxtaposition of Young Poland’s works with ancient applications, which became patterns for the poet. The interpretations made indicated alike faithful use of the texts of the old masters, and attempts to transform these narratives, when the poet was interested in passing on the content important to him.
The present article presents in historical order the esthetical characteristics of the main architectural styles of the city of Prague: romanic, gothic, renaissance, baroque, classicism, empire, ...modernism and avantgardism. It is proven through concrete arguments, that Prague is an overlapping of historical and esthetical styles, which are quite general, but also specific, national, Czech.
The purpose of this article is to present a way of showing loneliness in two separate literary works. In the novel, The Solitude of Wolves by Marek Harny, the main character is Marek Nowicki. The ...discourse on the individualʼs loneliness towards traumatic experiences with wolves related to their childhood and for the Polish-Ukrainian conflict of the twentieth century is taken into account. A similar theme is included in the title reportage – The Wolf Hunter – written in the form of a literary duo by Christoph Ransmayr and Martin Pollack. Such a report shows the experience of loneliness and helplessness of the Ukrainian, Vasil Borsuk, against the resettlement campaign called “Vistula”. The next part of the article presents a historical outline of the Polish-Ukrainian conflict in the Bieszczady Mountains as well as the aspects of characters’ life resulting from this conflict which make up the loneliness experienced by them. In addition, attempts have been made to prove that wolves which are inseparably connected with the lives of characters, are not just a background to the events of their lives, but constitute a kind of allegory of their fate.

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der historischen Entwicklung des Begriffs „Magischer Realismus“ vom ästhetischen Konzept der deutschen Malerei bis zur Dominanz der hispanoamerikanischen ...Literatur. Das ungewöhnliche Syntagma wurde zum ersten Mal im Jahr 1923 vom deutschen Kunstkritiker Franz Roh in seinem Aufsatz “Zur Interpretation Karl Haiders: Eine Bemerkung zur Kunst des Nachexpressionismus”
verwendet, um die postexpressionistische Malerei Karl Haiders zu beschreiben. Der entscheidende Moment für die Expansion des Magischen Realismus in die Literaturwissenschaft war die Übersetzung Franz Rohs Aufsatzes ins Spanische im Jahr 1927. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, den theoretischen Rahmen des Magischen Realismus aufgrund der relevanten Texte lateinamerikanischer Autoren zu skizzieren. Besondere
Aufmerksamkeit wird dabei den theoretischen Standpunkten von Alejo Carpentier gewidmet, dank dem eine Distinktion zwischen dem ontologischen und dem epistemologischen Magischen Realismus festgesetzt wird, bzw. der Unterschied zwischen dem hispanoamerikanischen und dem europäischen Konzept dieses eigenartigen literarischen Phänomens.
Inspired by a feastly moment, the paper puts a spotlight on Alexandru Ruja, whose long effort was meant to integrate the literary works written in the province of Banat in the national literature and ...to enrich the Romanian cultural patrimony by means of critical editions. Brief synthesis of Alexandru Ruja’s labor, the following pages bring some concepts into discussion (periphery, center, multicentricity, identity) and suggest the need of redefining literary criticism so that the national literature might properly placed in “world literature”.
Euripides’ tragedy Iphigenia in Tauris is an interesting combination of something that today’s theatre-goers would describe as being a classic horror play based on the motif of a childhood trauma (on ...the one hand) and – on the other hand – a cleverly designed metatheatrical study of how the mechanism of (Greek) tragedy really works. The terrifying, cruel and murder-obsessed Iphigenia is at one and the same time a wronged, unhappy child imprisoned in the body of a grown woman. She struggles with her pain by re-enacting her own unaccomplished murder in a sinister „theatre within a theatre”, i.e. in the temple of Arthemis, where – among macabre decorations made from remnants of the bodies of those Greek sailors that she has slain so far – she ritually kills any further newcomers from her homeland. An unexpected visit by her brother Orestes proves to be an effective remedy for Iphigenia’s distress. In this play, Euripides not only enables
his audience to achieve catharsis, but also – through metatheatrical means – shows us exactly how a human mind is purged of dangerous emotions: as soon as Iphigenia stops concentrating on her own pain and starts to sympathize with Orestes, her mind is cured, and she is restored to a state of happiness. At the same time, the audience – who sympathize wih the characters – also feel a sense of relief. Iphigenia in Thauris is therefore a play within a play that shows us how a good tragedy works.
The paper analyzes various ways of using historical-literary notions employed ad hoc by literary criticism in subsequent discourses over the second half of the 20th century. Three critical program ...texts which initiated debates about the role of poetry and dominating poetics after 1956 are analyzed. Similarities in terms of structures and strategies of poetry critics who referred to the romanticism/classicism dichotomy are identified, at the same time revealing significant program differences expressed using the same notions.

The goal of bibliotherapy is to use a book to help the reader understand and overcome the difficulties he or she is facing. It can be applied in different contexts. If it is applied in a school ...environment, we are talking about developmental bibliotherapy. The aim of this paper is to describe the basic stages of developmental bibliotherapy, to present the results of research that indicate the effectiveness of its application, as well as the results of research that refer to the inclination of teachers and associates to opt for this technique. Given that this technique is considered to be a simple, cost-effective, and efficient intervention, and that some teachers and associates do not venture to apply it because they lack the necessary knowledge and skills, the inclusion of bibliotherapy in college training programs could contribute to the increased readiness of professionals to use it in order to help children face challenges in a developmentally appropriate manner.
This article juxtaposes two strains of “the imagination of crisis” that manifest in the poetic practice of two contemporary francophone writers – the Michel Houellebecq (French) and the Colette ...Nys-Mazure (Belgian). Examination of several characteristic traits of their imaginary universes, such as for example the figure of the Father and of the Mother, invites reflection on the profound motivation that belies their artistic and existential standpoints. It would appear that the poetic strategies each adopts in the face of fundamental existential problems, correspond more or less directly to the Christian virtues (faith, hope, love), even though for Houellebecq (atheist or agnostic) the point of departure is the “dark side” of life, whilst Nys-Mazure (Christian, Catholic) chooses the “bright side”: both poets prefer to build rather than tear down. The intuition of a transcendence that emanates from their thirst for harmony in the chaotic modern world makes it possible to claim that poetry, which is capable of either “shouting the crisis from the rooftops” or refuting it, might possibly succeed in counteracting the “crise des vers”.
