Rad obuhvaća istraživanje povijesnih podataka o dvorcu, njegovim vlasnicima te građevinskim preinakama. Prema tim podacima, medaljoni su povijesno kontekstualizirani. Na temelju arhivskih fotografija ...i dostupnih arhitektonskih nacrta dvorca izrađen je 3D model mogućeg izgleda stropa, koji je uklopljen u shematsku elevaciju prostorije u kojoj se nekad nalazio. Nakon toga interpretiraju se svi dokazi za dataciju medaljona te se medaljoni promatraju s dva moguća aspekta: najprije u kontekstu trendova unutarnjeg uređenja reprezentativnih stambenih prostora druge polovice 19. stoljeća i potom u kontekstu mogućih uzora za ikonografski motiv prikazanih amoreta.
Two ceiling medallions from the Adamović-HellenbachMikšić manor house in Sveta Helena, near Sveti Ivan Zelina, were once part of a wooden ceiling in one of the two main halls. In 2003, they became part of the Sveti Ivan Zelina Museum collection following the collapse of the manor house roof along with the wooden ceilings. We do not know their original location, and they are the only remaining part of the interior decoration saved from the ruins. The medallions are two massive profiled wooden frames made out of oak with circular gouache paintings on papier mâché on wood. The paintings portray two amoretti playing with flowers in the clouds. Conservation and restoration started in 2011 at the Croatian Conservation Institute by carrying out of preventive protection, primary conservation and research on both medallions, and the work was completed during 2014 and 2015. Based on historical information about the manor house, and the results of the research conducted by the Natural Science Laboratory of the Croatian Conservation Institute, the medallions and the entire ceiling can be dated in the last quarter of the 19th century. The old manor house in Sveta Helena, owned by the Mikšić family, was severely damaged during the large 1880 earthquake in Zagreb and its surroundings. The Mikšić family later built a new manor house on the foundations of the old one. New ceilings were also made at the same time, one of which contained these medallions. Laboratory analysis of the paper carrier indicated the presence of lignin, meaning the paper was produced from raw wood which was commercially used in the second half of the 19th century. Pigment analysis of the painted layer showed the presence of chrome yellow and chromium-oxide green, which were also products of the industrial revolution and were not available before the 19th century. In addition, solid oak frames fit well into the well-known trends of interior design of representational spaces in the 19th century. Unfortunately, due to the very poor condition of a great number of Croatian castles and manor houses, including Sveta Helena, it was not possible to find direct comparative examples in Croatia. A very similar one can be found in the Miramare Castle on the northern side of the Trieste Bay, built between 1856 and 1860 for Archduke Maximilian I, brother of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. Other comparative examples mainly comprise representative housing built in Vienna during the second half of the 19th century, from where, in all likelihood, the paintings on these medallions come from. Despite the fact that archival and historical data on the interior of the manor house does not exist, available photodocumentation and architectural drawings of the house’s current condition made it possible to create a virtual 3D reconstruction of the assumed position of the medallions on the ceiling in order to interpret and present them.
U arhitekturi kontinentalne Hrvatske 17. i 18. stoljeća javlja se karakteristična raščlamba pročelja s rasterom istaknutih ili uleknutih polja različitih oblika, koje nazivamo medaljonima. U ovom se ...članku utvrđuju ishodišta takvih oblika, ponajprije u djelima talijanskih majstora 16. i 17. stoljeća te putevi njihova usvajanja u habsburškim zemljama, prije svega u velikim gradskim središtima poput Beča i Praga, preko Graza i Štajerske, odakle dolaze i u naše krajeve. Kod nas su takva rješenja uočena u tri fenomena. Prvi je žbukana raščlamba trakama i lezenama, u okviru koje se javljaju medaljoni, posve pod štajerskim utjecajima, zatim pojava slikanih kompozicija sa samostalnim medaljonima na skupini građevina uz štajersko-hrvatsku granicu, s uzorima u djelima arhitekta Domenica Sciassie, te zrelobarokna motivika kartušnih medaljona u Slavoniji, gdje se prepoznaju izravni doticaji s arhitektima iz bečke i ugarske sredine. Daljnje transformacije oblika medaljonske raščlambe u kasnom 18. stoljeću značit će usvajanje strogo geometrijskih formi s dominantnim motivom pravokutnih ploča, čime je otvoren put razvoju Plattenstila.
Pileći su medaljoni posipani zeinom ili izolatom sojinog proteina, zatim umočeni u tijesto s 0,1; 0,2 ili 0,3 % karboksimetil celuloze, te naposljetku uvaljani u krušne mrvice. Medaljoni su prženi 2, ...4 ili 6 minuta na 190 °C i tako su im poboljšana fizikalna, kemijska i senzorska svojstva. Bolji rezultati dobiveni su primjenom izolata sojinog proteina, nego pomoću zeina. Izolat je sojinog proteina poboljšao rezultate mjerenja tvrdoće penetrometrom i senzorske ocjene, jer je smanjio gubitak vlage tijekom pečenja. Tako pripremljeni medaljoni bili su puno bolje ocijenjeni od kontrolnih uzoraka. Produljenjem vremena prženja smanjeni su prinos, postotak vlažnosti i vrijednosti dobivene penetrometrom, a slabiji je bio izgled proizvoda. Također su povećani gubitak mase tijekom prženja i upijanje ulja. Najbolji su rezultati postignuti primjenom izolata sojinog proteina i tijesta s 0,1 % karboksimetil celuloze, te s vremenom prženja od 2 do 4 minute.

Janez Vurnik starejši se je l. 1869 rodoljubno odzval vabilu Kranjske čitalnice, ki je po pogrebu pesnika Simona Jenka javnost pozivala, da se pesniku postavi nagrobni spomenik. Jenkov reliefni ...portret je izdelal sin Janez Vurnik mlajši. Medaljon predstavlja prvo javno upodobitev pesnika.
