Abstract Aim The study assesses whether a workplace-based educational intervention helps professionals who had trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI) become more competent in it. Design Randomised ...controlled trial. Participants Professionals in health and social services in Dorset, UK, who had received training in MI ( n = 54). Intervention (a) Control: Update day in MI (b) THEME (Twelve Hours to Enhance Motivational Effectiveness): Update day plus 12 weekly worksheets to stimulate reflection on practice of MI, feedback to audiotaped sessions with clients, and three 30 minute sessions of telephone coaching. Measurements Degree of competence in MI, as assessed from videotapes of interviews with simulated patients, carried out at entry to the study and 4 months later. Each videotape was coded independently by two trained coders using the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) system. Findings Of the 44 participants who completed the second assessment, those in THEME showed significantly ( p < 0.05) greater increases in the Spirit of MI and overall competence in MI. Conclusions Workplace based interventions may enhance the effectiveness of brief training in MI and other psychological therapies.
Abstract Motivational interviewing (MI) is effective in the treatment of addictions. To evaluate MI adherence of therapists, the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Code (MITI) was ...developed. MI is used in German-speaking countries, but there is no equivalent to the MITI. Our aim was to adapt the MITI for use in German language settings (MITI-d). Twenty-eight session tapes of Alcoholism Specific Psychotherapy utilizing MI were rated by two student raters and the MITI-d instructor. To evaluate interrater reliability, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were computed. ICCs were good to excellent for relevant MI constructs, except for Complex Reflections, MI-nonadherent Behaviors, Empathy, and MI Spirit. The evaluation of test–retest reliability for the student raters showed good to excellent results. The MITI-d is a psychometrically sound instrument for evaluating basic MI competence in German language settings.
The provision of culturally relevant yet evidence-based interventions has become crucial to global HIV prevention and treatment efforts. In Thailand, where treatment for HIV has become widely ...available, medication adherence and risk behaviors remain an issue for Thai youth living with HIV. Previous research on motivational interviewing (MI) has proven effective in promoting medication adherence and HIV risk reduction in the United States. However, to test the efficacy of MI in the Thai context a feasible method for monitoring treatment fidelity must be implemented. This article describes a collaborative three-step process model for implementing the MI Treatment Integrity (MITI) across cultures while identifying linguistic issues that the English-originated MITI was not designed to detect as part of a larger intervention for Thai youth living with HIV. Step 1 describes the training of the Thai MITI coder, Step 2 describes identifying cultural and linguistic issues unique to the Thai context, and Step 3 describes an MITI booster training and incorporation of the MITI feedback into supervision and team discussion. Throughout the process the research team collaborated to implement the MITI while creating additional ways to evaluate in-session processes that the MITI is not designed to detect. The feasibility of using the MITI as a measure of treatment fidelity for MI delivered in the Thai linguistic and cultural context is discussed.

The standard way to suppress clutter in narrowband radar is to use Moving Target Indicator (MTI) cancellation techniques. High Range Resolution (HRR) radars are becoming more and more important ...because they can detect and track targets more accurately. As for such radars the bandwidth is increased, the resolution is decreased and leads to target range migration over the coherent pulse interval (CPI). Due to this range walk, standard low resolution MTI processing is not adapted anymore to HRR MTI radar data. We propose here to extend the principle of the MTI processing to the wideband case. We refer to this method as the Migrating Target Indicator (MiTI), since it eliminates the non-migrating targets from the received signals.
Cette Ligne directrice décrit l'essai MITI modifié (II). Cet essai permet la mesure de la demande biochimique en oxygène (DBO) et l'analyse des produits résiduels afin d'évaluer la biodégradabilité ...intrinsèque des produits chimiques qui, d'après la méthode standard MITI (I) sont faiblement dégradable.Un appareil de mesure automatisé de la consommation d'oxygène en circuit fermé (DBO-mètre) est utilisé. On inocule des micro-organismes dans des récipients contenant les produits chimiques à tester (six bouteilles avec des quantités différentes de produit chimique d'essai). Afin de vérifier l'activité de l'inoculum, l'utilisation des substances de contrôle (aniline, acétate de sodium ou benzoate de sodium) est souhaitable. Au cours de l'essai, la DBO est mesurée sans interruption. La biodégradabilité est calculée sur la base de la DBO et des analyses chimiques complémentaires, telles que la mesure de la concentration du carbone organique dissous, la concentration des produits résiduels, etc. La courbe de DBO est obtenue en continue et automatiquement pendant une période de 14 à 28 jours. Après cette même période, le pH, les produits chimiques résiduels et les produits intermédiaires des récipients d'essai sont analysés.
