Residential solar photovoltaics (PV), a once niche technology reliant on direct regulatory support to stimulate its adoption, has progressively become more competitive because of economies of ...learning and scale in production. Given its extraordinary market growth, a better understanding of the various market and social factors affecting residential consumers’ PV purchasing decisions is required for policy makers to create efficient support mechanisms, by industry participants to better target marketing activities, and for more informed planning of centralised electricity generation and network infrastructure development. This paper reports on an analysis of the behavioural drivers of households as decision-making units fulfilling an intention to adopt PV. Drawing upon Rogers’ diffusion of innovation theory and using a logistic regression choice model, the actual outcomes of the residential PV market are examined in the state of Queensland, Australia. A recent survey of more than 8000 households is used to investigate the difference in demographic and motivational factors among households with the stated intention to purchase PV with those that have already adopted the technology. Our findings suggest that PV is the technology of the middle class. This reasoning is made based on surveyees’ stated concerns over rising electricity bills and survey data which indicates that economic life events have a significant influence over perceptions of affordability. Households need to be concerned with rising electricity bills to be motivated to adopt PV, but must also have access to sufficient capital to afford its upfront cost. Familiarity with the technology appeared to reduce adoption motivations based on self-sufficiency and intentions to go off grid.

Background: The present study aimed to identify teaching styles and determine their correlation with autonomous motivation among the faculty members of two universities in Tabriz, Iran. Methods: This ...cross-sectional study was conducted among 305 faculty members of humanities, basic sciences, engineering, agriculture, and medical sciences departments at Tabriz Universities. The samples were selected through stratified random sampling during the first semester of 2018-19. Research instruments included the Staffordshire Evaluation of Teaching Styles questionnaire, and the Autonomous Motivation for Teaching questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, MANOVA, and Friedman tests in SPSS v.23. All statistical tests were conducted at a significance level of 0.05. Results: A significant difference was found among faculty members in the "all-round flexible and adaptable", "official formal curriculum", "straight facts, no nonsense", and "big conference" styles (p <0.05), but they were not significantly different in "sensitive student-centered", and "one-off" styles (P>0.05). There were positive correlations between external motivation on the one hand, and all-round flexible and adaptable, official formal curriculum, and one-off styles on the other (p <0.001), and negative correlations between external motivation and straight facts no nonsense style (P=0.001). Positive correlations were also found between internal motivation and student-centered (P=0.001), big conference (P=0.002), and one-off (P=0.003) styles, and between identified motivation and student-centered, straight facts no nonsense, and big conference styles (p <0.001). Besides, internal motivation was negatively correlated with all-round flexible and adaptable (p <0.001), and official formal curriculum (P=0.003) styles, and intrinsic motivation was positively correlated with student-centered (P=0.001) and big conference (p <0.001) styles. Conclusion: Correlations were established between teaching styles and autonomous motivation for teaching, so that productive styles, such as the “sensitive student-centered” teaching style, were mostly correlated with intrinsic motivation, and reproductive styles, such as the “big conference” teaching style, showed correlations with external types of motivation among faculty members.

For several decades, extensive research has been conducted on motivation in language learning. However, how motivation impacts learning behaviours with the moderation of factors related to emotions, ...attitude, environment, and teachers has not been reported. This study aims to examine the moderating effects of these four motivational factors to explain the inconsistent effects of motivation on English learning behaviours across studies. Drawing on self-determination theory, the study investigated 182 high school English learners and explored how the four motivational factors moderate the relationship between students' motivation and their English learning behaviours. We first examined how the four motivational factors predicted intrinsic/extrinsic motivation and how intrinsic/extrinsic motivation predicted English learning behaviours. The results reveal that the four motivational factors all positively predicted intrinsic motivation, while language attitude positively predicted extrinsic motivation. Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations positively predicted English learning behaviours, with intrinsic motivation exerting a stronger influence. Language attitude did not moderate the relationship between motivation and English learning behaviours. However, the other three factors enhanced the positive relationship between motivation and learning behaviours. Notably, at the low level of teacher-related factors, the impact of extrinsic motivation on English learning behaviours was insignificant. Related implications are discussed.

The current study examines the impact of the Ferguson Effect and related public scrutiny on college students' motivation to become police officers. Using data from 654 students located at two US ...universities with over 20,000 students, the results indicate that students' who perceived that officer motivation and dangerousness has been affected by negative media scrutiny had significantly higher log-odds of strongly agreeing that such scrutiny has negatively impacted their trajectory to work in the police profession and had higher log-odds of strongly agreeing that it has made them apprehensive about applying for police positions in comparison to the reference category. The current study highlights how the negative attention directed towards law enforcement is adversely influencing college students' motivation to enter the police profession. Police departments must make a concerted effort to mitigate such negative scrutiny in order to ensure a strong candidate pool for prospective police officers.
