Since e-learning is conducted based on the learner’s autonomy, motivation to continuously participate is crucial for success in e-learning. As the number of adult learners participating in lifelong education increases, it is necessary to study learner participation and the motivating factors. Drawing upon the Expectancy-Value Theory and Self-Regulated Learning Theory, this study analyzed the influence of motivational factors (value, costs, cognitive regulation, and scheduling) on learner participation. An e-learning program was implemented on MoodleCloud, and learners completed a survey before going through the program. Regression analysis was conducted using the survey response data along with the participation score, calculated using the log data. The results of the analysis demonstrated that value and scheduling significantly influenced learner participation, with gender differences found in value. This means that as adult learners perceive higher value in the e-learning program and possess better scheduling skills, they are more likely to participate. These findings can be utilized in developing teaching and learning strategies for both learners and instructors, ultimately helping to prevent dropout in e-learning.
The aim of language learning is not only to achieve an academic success carried out by a fluent speaking; mastering the grammar and vocabulary but it should also focus on the psychological comfort ...and the intrinsic readiness of the students to participate in their education - to receive and perform. The learners’ self-esteem plays the fundamental role in any language classroom but gaining it is the task on its own and can be quite a challenge for the teachers. How students feel is closely related to their ability to learn. Teachers’ task is thus not only to provide knowledge and information but first of all they should immerse themselves into the student’s mind and discover the best way to awake learner’s will to communicate. This paper focuses on two kinds of aspects participating on the emotional state of the learner, academic and psychological. The students of two different levels of English have answered the questionnaire, assessing their attitude, anxiety and motivation towards learning English. Each opinion has been evaluated and put into relationship with the ability to relax, understand, learn and enjoy at the same time. Their analyses have become the base of several teaching techniques that would build and encourage the students’ confidence as the main condition to start any cognitive process. If confidence is the cause or the outcome of mastering a foreign language was the question asked and answered in this work. Confidence mastery has thus played the fundamental role in the present survey.
This study analyses differences in motivation with a focus on differences in the national character. The turnover rate of foreign workers in the Japanese IT industry is increasing. One possible ...reason for the increase in turnover is the failure of Japanese companies to set goals and provide treatment that matches the values of foreign workers. Therefore, this study analyses differences in motivation with a focus on national character differences. Interviews will be conducted with Japanese and Vietnamese people, and the results of the interviews will be analysed to estimate differences in motivation.
This study examines similarities and differences in employee motivation management between Korean and Japanese executives of Japanese-affiliated companies in Korea, based on questionnaire surveys. ...The respondents' views of employee motivation factors were analysed, by contrast with motivational factors and hygiene factors (maintenance factors) developed by Herzberg. The survey results reveal that both Korean and Japanese executives realize the importance of employee motivation management, and that Japanese executives have a stronger awareness of it than Korean executives. Both recognize it for the sake of high corporate performance, employee job satisfaction and customer satisfaction. Seeing motivation factors: the majority of Korean and Japanese executives regard 'wage and bonus increases' as a strong motivational factor; 'employment stability' is recognized as a motivational factor by Korean executives; and 'clarifying company policy and job objectives' is the most important motivational factor to Japanese executives. Their views of these three factors are not consistent with Herzberg's theory. We also found a recognition gap between Korean and Japanese executives: 'esteem and praise for job performance' is a hygiene factor to Korean executives but a motivational factor to Japanese executives.
In the research field of geographic information sharing, the current main research gap identified is that studies on individual and organizational behavior of geographic information sharing are still ...in its infancy. In order to research geographic information sharing in different cultural backgrounds from behavioral perspective, the geographic information sharing behavior model developed by Omran et al, 2007 is introduced. This model incorporates Hofstede's cultural dimensions and motivational factors for describing cross-cultural geographic information sharing. The relations in the model are formulated in the form of 23 hypotheses. Under the supports of the China Association for Geographic Information System(CAGIS), a formal questionnaire survey has been conducted in many Chinese departments relating to geographic information collection, management and application. Combing with Omran's empirical research, a comparative research in different cultural backgrounds is made since China, Egypt and the Netherlands respectively have different cultures. The results provide support for most of the proposed hypotheses, emphasizing the role of cultural differences and motivational factors on the individual and organizational geographic information sharing, and also realize that the geographic information sharing model can be applied in other countries, both developed and developing. The comparison of different national cultures for geographic information sharing would provide useful input for the further development of the geographic information sharing environment. Based on the quantitative results of the empirical research and China's actual situation, some policy suggestions that aim for advancing construction of geographic information sharing environment in China are put forward.
In small software companies the resources available for SPI are often limited. With limited resources, the motivation of the employees becomes one of the key factors for SPI. In this article, the ...motivational factors affecting a small company’s SPI efforts are discussed. In the research, we carried out interviews and a survey in a small Finnish software company considering the motivation towards SPI. The results are presented here and compared with earlier motivation research. There were differences revealed while comparing the motivating factors of smaller companies to those of larger ones. In large companies the focus seems to be on the business related motivators and in small ones the motivators related to comfortability of work are emphasized. Motivation survey and the interviews proved to be useful tools in planning the future SPI strategy. A lot of valuable information was discovered for planning and implementing the next steps of SPI.

Book Chapter
This chapter reviews the theoretical concepts related to adaptation and acceptance of Japanese management. As mentioned in Chap. 1, Japanese managers transplant their management practices to ...Thailand. However, conflicts in Japanese manufacturing organizations occur when the Japanese management practices which work well in Japan, are not appropriate to the Thai culture. Implicit in this assumption is the notion that failing to adapt Japanese management practices in Thailand decreases the motivation and performance of Thai subordinates, and hence decreases business efficiency. This is followed by a discussion on how these concepts and gaps within the management literature have been used to formulate the proposed research questions for the present book.

Book Chapter
The objective of this chapter is to show the results of hypotheses testing and discuss significant theoretical and practical implications of the findings. In Chap. 6, two models, one of Japanese ...management acceptance and one of Japanese management adaptation suited to influencing Thai subordinates to accept such management practices, were developed. These models illustrate the motivational factors that influenced both Thai subordinates and Japanese managers to accept and adapt practices suited to their new cross-cultural work environment in Thailand. In this chapter, the relationship between Japanese management acceptance and adaptation and motivational factors, including vision, rewards, relationship, structure, leadership and resources support are discussed. The significant theoretical and practical implications of the findings are also provided.
