Abstract
The multipath error is the major error source for high precision positions. One sidereal filtering multipath migration method is proposed for single difference carrier phase(SDCP) ...measurement based on polynomial fitting technique. The multipath error prediction is estimated by constructing a piecewise polynomial function based on polynomial fitting of one sidereal period multipath errors. Then the multipath error of the measurement is eliminated by subtracting the corresponding prediction. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by field experiments. The experimental results show that the 3-dimension (3D) accuracy of proposed method is improved by 68.9%, compared with the results that without multipath error eliminating.
The code multipath error associated with elevation in BDS‐2 is one of the main factors whose impact on the precision of real‐time reduced‐dynamic precise orbit determination (POD) using spaceborne ...multi‐global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) observation data for FengYun‐3C (FY‐3C) and FengYun‐3D (FY‐3D) satellites. The aim is to construct a code multipath piece‐wise linear error model and analyse the contribution of BDS‐2 to the performance of low earth orbit POD. Conclusions are drawn out from the experimental results: (1) the real‐time POD average precision of FY‐3C and FY‐3D is improved by about 11% and 12% after the correction of BDS‐2 code multipath error; (2) Due to the small number of available BDS‐2 satellites and the limited accuracy of geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellite real‐time orbit products, the precision of the real‐time overlapping comparison for FY‐3C/FY‐3D by using the BDS‐2 onboard observation data can only reach the decimetre level. However, with the BDS‐2 signal capture capability of the FY‐3D onboard GNSS Occultation Sounder upgraded, the average precision of the BDS‐2‐based POD for FY‐3D is better than that of FY‐3C in each direction and with 10% improvement in the average 3 dimensional‐root mean square (3D‐RMS); (3) Cases of onboard global positioning system (GPS), GPS + BDS‐2 (with GEO), and GPS + BDS‐2 (without GEO) for real‐time POD can meet 5–8 cm precision requirement. The average 3D‐RMS of the real‐time POD for FY‐3C/FY‐3D, which utilises onboard GPS + BDS‐2 data is inferior only to GPS data, owing to the influence of the orbit accuracy of GEO satellites. However, after excluding the influence of GEO satellites, the average result (3D‐RMS) of the real‐time POD for FY‐3C (6.11 cm) and FY‐3D (5.95 cm) is better than those of other cases.

(2) Code multipath piece‐wise linear (PWL) error model of BDS‐2 satellites is constructed and applied to real‐time LEO POD. The performance of real‐time LEO POD is enhanced after applying a BDS‐2 code multipath PWL error model. Carrier-phase multipath effect is one of the major error sources in static global navigation satellite systems positioning applications. Sidereal filtering is an effective approach for mitigating ...multipath error, utilising the multipath error of the previous day to improve the positioning result of the next day. In this study two interpolation methods, namely cubic spline interpolation and piecewise linear interpolation, are used for continuous modelling of multipath error in sidereal filtering, which can further improve the performance of the filter. Sidereal filtering approach adopting the first-order derivative Tikhonov regularisation is applied in this work. Two issues, namely the different sampling intervals or the non-synchronisation between the data for modelling and the data to be mitigated, are solved by applying the continuous multipath models. Then the effects of two interpolation methods are compared and the feasibility of the proposed method is illustrated in the real data processing.
A modified multipath error mitigation method using the multi-point hemispherical grid model (MHGM) is proposed, and the influence of changes in the observation environments of IGS stations on their ...data quality is evaluated. The multipath error models of different satellite pairs for different observation periods can be established using the integrated multi-GNSS data in the proposed method. The test under deliberate high multipath environment reveals that this method can effectively estimate the GNSS multipath error, detect and present the orientation of the interference sources around the station. The RMS of residuals and the kinematic positioning accuracy on day 237 of 2018 are improved by 68% and 61%, respectively. Compared with the empirical site model (ESM), which can also visualize the effects of the multipath, the RMS of residuals when applying the MHGM is improved by 20%. The test with IGS historical observations shows that MHGM can effectively reflect the influence of changing multipath interference around stations on carrier phase observations, with an average improvement of 25% in the RMS of carrier phase residuals in the extrapolated 9-day validations over the past 18 years. The results of a kinematic positioning experiment in 2019 generally coincide with the RMS statistic results of carrier phase residuals as well. The MHGM demonstrates distinct potential in the influence evaluation of changes for the multipath interference around the stations on their observation quality.
BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) satellites are equipped with the new generation GNSS signals B1C and B2a, which support the interoperability with GPS and Galileo systems. In this study, ...the pseudo-range multipath error and carrier phase observation noise of the BDS-3 B1C and B2a signals were evaluated based on zero baseline measurements from the day of year (DOY) 113 to 116, 2020. Further, the precision and performance of the single point positioning (SPP) and precise point positioning (PPP) are assessed at 9 stations. This assessment manifests that the standard deviations (STDs) of the pseudo-range multipath error are about 0.09 ~ 0.22 m, while STDs of the carrier phase observation noise are about 0.075 mm. For the single-frequency SPP, its positioning precision is about 2.03 ~ 4.85 m and 3.29 ~ 10.73 m at the 99.99% confidence level in horizontal and vertical directions, respectively, while the dual-frequency SPP precision is about 1.92 ~ 8.02 m and 4.81 ~ 12.77 m in horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. For the daily static PPP, the convergence time is about 20 ~ 30 min, while the daily positioning precision can reach 1.38 ~ 4.42 cm and -1.31 ~ 4.34 cm in horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. In general, the quality and the SPP and PPP performance of the BDS-3 B1C&B2a signals are comparable to the GPS and Galileo.
During short baseline measurements in the Real-Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS-RTK), multipath error has a significant impact on the quality of observed data. Aiming at the ...characteristics of multipath error in GNSS-RTK measurements, a novel method that combines improved complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (ICEEMDAN) and adaptive wavelet packet threshold denoising (AWPTD) is proposed to reduce the effects of multipath error in GNSS-RTK measurements through modal function decomposition, effective coefficient sieving, and adaptive thresholding denoising. It first utilizes the ICEEMDAN algorithm to decompose the observed data into a series of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). Then, a novel IMF selection method is designed based on information entropy to accurately locate the IMFs containing multipath error information. Finally, an optimized adaptive denoising method is applied to the selected IMFs to preserve the original signal characteristics to the maximum possible extent and improve the accuracy of the multipath error correction model. This study shows that the ICEEMDAN-AWPTD algorithm provides a multipath error correction model with higher accuracy compared to singular filtering algorithms based on the results of simulation data and GNSS-RTK data. After the multipath correction, the accuracy of the E, N, and U coordinates increased by 49.2%, 65.1%, and 56.6%, respectively.
Soil moisture (SM), as one of the crucial environmental factors, has traditionally been estimated using global navigation satellite system interferometric reflectometry (GNSS-IR) microwave remote ...sensing technology. This approach relies on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) reflection component, and its accuracy hinges on the successful separation of the reflection component from the direct component. In contrast, the presence of carrier phase and pseudorange multipath errors enables soil moisture retrieval without the requirement for separating the direct component of the signal. To acquire high-quality combined multipath errors and diversify GNSS-IR data sources, this study establishes the dual-frequency pseudorange combination (DFPC) and dual-frequency carrier phase combination (L4) that exclude geometrical factors, ionospheric delay, and tropospheric delay. Simultaneously, we propose two methods for estimating soil moisture: the DFPC method and the L4 method. Initially, the equal-weight least squares method is employed to calculate the initial delay phase. Subsequently, anomalous delay phases are detected and corrected through a combination of the minimum covariance determinant robust estimation (MCD) and the moving average filter (MAF). Finally, we utilize the multivariate linear regression (MLR) and extreme learning machine (ELM) to construct multi-satellite linear regression models (MSLRs) and multi-satellite nonlinear regression models (MSNRs) for soil moisture prediction, and compare the accuracy of each model. To validate the feasibility of these methods, data from site P031 of the Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO) H2O project are utilized. Experimental results demonstrate that combining MCD and MAF can effectively detect and correct outliers, yielding single-satellite delay phase sequences with a high quality. This improvement contributes to varying degrees of enhanced correlation between the single-satellite delay phase and soil moisture. When fusing the corrected delay phases from multiple satellite orbits using the DFPC method for soil moisture estimation, the correlations between the true soil moisture values and the predicted values obtained through MLR and ELM reach 0.81 and 0.88, respectively, while the correlations of the L4 method can reach 0.84 and 0.90, respectively. These findings indicate a substantial achievement in high-precision soil moisture estimation within a small satellite-elevation angle range.
