Izvir Krupe in reko so razglasili za naravni spomenik; izvir, izjava Mira Ivanovič, Zavod za varstvo ABSEC, Krupa, zloženka.
Thirteen years ago, an ecological disaster struck the municipality of Semič. At the source of the Krupa River, toxic PCB traces were detected, which were released into it by the Iskra Company. After the emission of toxic waste into the environment was prohibited and the production of dangerous products was stopped, the situation finally improved. The source of the Krupa River and the river itself were declared a natural monument. A statement by Mira Ivanovič from the Institute of ABSEC is presented in the clip.- Information:- Improvement to the Krupa River in Bela Krajina after the long-lasting consequences of environmental disasters due to industrial pollution.- Original language summary:

Strokovni posvet, ki ...ga je sklical dr. Leo Šešerko, podpredsednik Izvršnega sveta Republike Slovenije in član stranke Zeleni Slovenije za iskanje rešitve za odpravo posledic onesnaževanja. V semiški Iskri so do srede osemdesetih let v okolje izpuščali strupene kemikalije; arhivski posnetki Krupe iz l. 1985, predsednik Zelenih Slovenije dr. Dušan Plut, izjava primarij Anton Farazinc, Univerzitetni zavod za zdravstveno in socialno varstvo.
Expert consultation convened by Dr. Leo Šešerko, vice president of the Executive Council of the Republic of Slovenia and a member of the Green Party of Slovenia, was called upon to come up with a solution in order to overcome the effects of massive industrial pollution. Up until the mid-eighties, the Iskra Company was releasing toxic chemicals into the natural environment of the Krupa River. The President of the Greens of Slovenia Dr. Dušan Plut and also Anton Farazinc from the University Institute for Health and Social Care make a statement regarding the issue at hand.- Information:- Expert consultation on how to eliminate the long - lasting effects of pollution in the Krupa River with PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls).- Original language summary:

PCB-ji so prišli v reko preko odpadnih vod Semiške tovarne in odpadnih izdelkov.
The ecological disaster which took place at the source of the Krupa River (municipality of Semič) is considered as one of the greatest environmental contaminations with toxic PCBs (Polychlorinated biphenyls). In the vicinity of the now former capacitors production plant of Iskra Semič, the River Krupa was heavily polluted, as discovered when wanting to use it as a source for regional water supply. PCBs entered the river through wastewater and waste products from the Semič factory Iskra. Production of PCBs lasted until 1983, when the Company changed the production. Recent research in this area has shown that PCBs are still present in specific products (eggs, cow's milk, nuts ...), but PCB contamination of the air is no longer a problem. As for the river - the Krupa remains the most polluted river of PCB toxins in the world. Given that in our area chlorinated herbicides and pesticides or any kind of other products containing PCB remains, are no longer in use, a continuing risk of environmental pollution by PCB remains a great danger as it is still present in not just a handful of the transformers and capacitors made by the Company.
Presented video was made after revelations of the catastrophic environmental pollution. Tone Poljšak, Deputy Chairman of the Republican Committee for environmental protection and regulation of traffic and Dr. Albin Pečaver from the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Hygiene gave their statements regarding the issue.- Information:- Ecological catastrophe at the source of the Krupa River, which occurred due to the release of toxic chemicals, namely PCBs into the environment.- Original language summary:

Večstoletno rudarjenje in predelava svinca je uničilo naravno okolje v Mežiški dolini. Uničeni gozdovi so alpsko dolino spremenili v dolino smrti.
The consequences of hundreds of years of lead mining in the valley of the river Meža; destroyed forests and have changed the valley into a valley of death. The affected citizens and experts talk about the issues arising from living in the polluted valley. The singer Marjan Smode wrote several songs about the polluted valley (most recognizable of them entitled, Mrtva reka - Dead River). Statements by Andrej Šertel, head of the section for cultivation and protection of the forest Lesna Slovenj Gradec, continuing with Karl Markovič, head of the hunting family Bistra, and participants of the project group for the preservation of Mežiška dolina, Pavel Srebre, Martin Srebre and Marija Šepul as their project leader, the engineer Peter Sovan, a statement by the medical doctor Bojan Jezernik, ending the clip with a statement by a local farmer Filip Šepul.- Information:- Eliminating the consequences of centuries of mining, saving the natural forest and the heavily polluted environment of Mežiška dolina.- Original language summary:

Več stoletij dolga izraba svinčene rude je v Zgornje Mežiški dolini pustila neizbrisen pečat. Rudniki svinca in cinka v Mežici so s pridobivanjem svinčene rude področje zgornje Mežiške doline spremenili v onesnaženo okolje z visoko vsebnostjo svinčenega prahu v zraku in tleh.

The several centuries practiced use of lead ore in the upper part of Mežiška dolina has left an indelible mark. Lead and zinc ore mining has changed the upper part of the valley and transformed it into a polluted area with high levels of leaden dust in the air and soil.
