The basis for any industry to achieve high growth potential and, consequently, profitability, comes from organization, efficiency, standardization, quality, among other factors. Entrepreneurs are ...often unable to pinpoint how damaging the disorganization of a production process is, poor programming and development can suck up all the company's profits, and due to the lack of planning and production control this situation can be imperceptible in the final process. All of these points can be resolved with good company organization aligned with good production planning and control. However, every optimization process requires everyone's involvement and commitment, that is, everyone needs to be willing to donate to achieve process improvement that brings positive impacts to both the worker and the company. In this work we observed the importance of developing and implementing Production Planning, Programming and Control (PPCP) software on an online platform called Airtable. With the software it was possible to access the company's entire data history, making the information easily accessible for everyone in the company. As a result, it was possible to see a significant improvement in the company's organization, a reduction in lead time and consequently a significant growth.
Planning production capacities in multi-product production networks is challenging due to the multitude of decision factors, inter-organisational interests, and a high degree of uncertainty. ...Particularly, the organisational separation of different products that share sites induces planning complexity. This paper proposes an interactive-two model concept integrating product-specific network planning and a site capacity planning perspective. Stochastic mixed integer linear programming determines order allocations, line investments, and personnel plans. The potential to swiftly adapt plans while obeying local constraints is demonstrated with a large automotive supplier. The approach should allow quicker and more adaptive planning, leading to more resilient organisations.

Automated planning technology now plays a significant role in a variety of demanding applications, ranging from controlling space vehicles and robots to playing the game of bridge. These real-world ...applications create new opportunities for synergy between theory and practice: observing what works well in practice leads to better theories of planning, and better theories lead to better performance of practical applications. Automated Planning mirrors this dialogue by offering a comprehensive, up-to-date resource on both the theory and practice of automated planning. The book goes well beyond classical planning, to include temporal planning, resource scheduling, planning under uncertainty, and modern techniques for plan generation, such as task decomposition, propositional satisfiability, constraint satisfaction, and model checking. The authors combine over 30 years experience in planning research and development to offer an invaluable text to researchers, professionals, and graduate students. *Comprehensively explains paradigms for automated planning. *Provides a thorough understanding of theory and planning practice, and how they relate to each other. *Presents case studies of applications in space, robotics, CAD/CAM, process control, emergency operations, and games.
*Provides a thorough understanding of AI planning theory and practice, and how they relate to each other. *Covers all the contemporary topics of planning, as well as important practical applications of planning, such as model checking and game playing. *Presents case studies and applications in planning engineering, space, robotics, CAD/CAM, process control, emergency operations, and games.*Provides lecture notes, examples of programming assignments, pointers to downloadable planning systems and related information online.
Because of their cross-functional nature in the company, enhancing Production Planning and Control (PPC) functions can lead to a global improvement of manufacturing systems. With the advent of the ...Industry 4.0 (I4.0), copious availability of data, high-computing power and large storage capacity have made of Machine Learning (ML) approaches an appealing solution to tackle manufacturing challenges. As such, this paper presents a state-of-the-art of ML-aided PPC (ML-PPC) done through a systematic literature review analyzing 93 recent research application articles. This study has two main objectives: contribute to the definition of a methodology to implement ML-PPC and propose a mapping to classify the scientific literature to identify further research perspectives. To achieve the first objective, ML techniques, tools, activities, and data sources which are required to implement a ML-PPC are reviewed. The second objective is developed through the analysis of the use cases and the addressed characteristics of the I4.0. Results suggest that 75% of the possible research domains in ML-PPC are barely explored or not addressed at all. This lack of research originates from two possible causes: firstly, scientific literature rarely considers customer, environmental, and human-in-the-loop aspects when linking ML to PPC. Secondly, recent applications seldom couple PPC to logistics as well as to design of products and processes. Finally, two key pitfalls are identified in the implementation of ML-PPC models: the complexity of using Internet of Things technologies to collect data and the difficulty of updating the ML model to adapt it to the manufacturing system changes.
Reconfigurable manufacturing systems can rely on the collaboration of autonomous modular machines, dynamically planning production tasks and effectively satisfying demands. This paper introduces a ...decentralized knowledge-based framework, considering task uncertainties, module specialization, and reconfiguration constraints. By taking advantage of scenario reproducibility of simulations and utilizing deep reinforcement learning with multi-objective rewards, the proposed method enables machines to autonomously make intelligent decisions and collaborate on sequential, co-executed, or parallel tasks. Experiments are designed to evaluate the effectiveness of autonomous machines in planning tasks and the adaptability to uncertain situations in manufacturing operations, showcasing efficient module usage without compromising completion speed.
As a response to the low utilization of production lines in the context of an increasing number of product variants with significant differences in cycle times, line-less modular assembly concepts ...known as matrix production have evolved. Whilst the many degrees of freedom a matrix production offers provide different ways to react to disturbances and balance utilization, it also increases the complexity for scheduling exponentially. For real-time scheduling high solution quality and high efficiency are needed. This paper contributes a multi-objective scheduling approach based on Monte-Carlo Tree Search that self-adjusts to the scheduling problem to improve solution quality and execution time.
With the competition that exists between the timber sector in Brazil, companies in this sector need to adapt to the market, where many of the causes that hinder companies are in the way in which ...internal activities are carried out. Within this issue, a process that generates problems within a company is the lack of Production Planning, Programming and Control (PPCP). The lack of PPCP causes delays in production and products are made without quality, thus damaging the company's name. Using quality tools and the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act), phenomenon and process analyzes were carried out. As a result, it was found that the lack of a PPCP was causing delays and losses for the company. In order to act on this problem, data on the processes and their causes were collected. Based on the data collected, PPCP software was created using the Airtable platform, which enabled solutions to problems involving delays in order delivery. Finally, the work achieved its objectives, meeting the company's needs and continuing with future improvements.
