The history of the design and construction of the Ust-Srednekanskaya HPP in the Magadan Region is briefly reviewed. The reasons for and results of design works intended to update the project ...documentation for the main facilities of the hydraulic project are described.
Documentation management is a crucial component of successful business-related projects, but it often involves significant effort in terms of time and cost. Initializing, writing, and revising ...project documents can be a monotonous and fragmented task, especially during rapid project development. However, the context among most project documentation and business administration is highly interconnected. Based on the relationships among project documentation, especially for multimedia projects, this study uses the concept of section-orientation and presents a cooperative mechanism that uses object technology to clarify project documentation and its context. This study also introduces a prototype object-based functional project documentation system and illustrates the mechanism through two case studies and data analysis. The purpose of this study is to present a definite expression of this context in functional project documents. The results are practically applicable for managing multimedia project documentation.
AbstractAmong various alternate dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms, arbitration is one that offers several advantages such as the freedom to select a judge who better understands technicalities of ...construction; consequently, it also saves time and cost compared with the regular court proceedings. This study focuses on current practices, effectiveness of the process and the role of project documentation in the effectiveness of arbitration. Data was collected from clients, contractors, and arbitrators, which show that arbitration is not a very effective option of dispute resolution in Pakistan due to several reasons, such as the stakeholders’ low level of satisfaction with the process, bottlenecks, nonsupportive behavior of parties, time consumption, and being a costly mechanism. These causes along with its effects are illustrated in this study through an Ishikawa (fishbone) diagram. The results of key project documents were integrated using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). This study provides awareness of process and highlight areas for further investigation by identifying reasons for low effectiveness of the arbitration process in local industry. The importance of prioritization of project documentation will facilitate conflicting parties in the record keeping.
Lessons learned are important building blocks for continuous learning in project-based organisations. Nonetheless, the practical reality is that lessons learned are often not consistently reused for ...organisational learning. Two problems are commonly described in this context: the information overload and the lack of procedures and methods for the assessment and implementation of lessons learned. This paper addresses these problems, and appropriate solutions are combined in a systematic lesson learned process. Latent Dirichlet Allocation is presented to solve the first problem. Regarding the second problem, established risk management methods are adapted. The entire lessons learned process will be demonstrated in a practical case study.
This article discusses the project domain framework (PDF) which was developed as a project management tool to facilitate the documentation of a concept at the initiation phase of a project into a ...business case. Most importantly, the PDF incorporates measurable results into the business case to facilitate effective monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of project results. The PDF development was prompted by the authors’ experiences which often indicated that project champions have challenges in systematically and logically linking project statements to produce a well-articulated business case. Action research strategy was used as the research approach. It involved a synthesis of lessons learnt from client project assignments spanning a period of ten years in Botswana and South Africa. PDF consists of three sub-tools, the project domain map (PDmap), project domain matrix (PDmat) and the project narrative guide (PDnarr). The PDmap systematically guides the design of a project concept and logically links the project components. These are then translated into brief statements which are entered in the PDmat. From the PDmat entries and guided by the PDnarr, a project’s business case is written. The article uses a real-life example as a case study to discuss the application of the PDF.
Purpose
This paper aims to develop a system, which would enable efficient management and exploitation of documentation in electronic form, related to mining projects, with information retrieval and ...information extraction (IE) features, using various language resources and natural language processing.
Design/methodology/approach
The system is designed to integrate textual, lexical, semantic and terminological resources, enabling advanced document search and extraction of information. These resources are integrated with a set of Web services and applications, for different user profiles and use-cases.
Findings
The use of the system is illustrated by examples demonstrating keyword search supported by Web query expansion services, search based on regular expressions, corpus search based on local grammars, followed by extraction of information based on this search and finally, search with lexical masks using domain and semantic markers.
Originality/value
The presented system is the first software solution for implementation of human language technology in management of documentation from the mining engineering domain, but it is also applicable to other engineering and non-engineering domains. The system is independent of the type of alphabet (Cyrillic and Latin), which makes it applicable to other languages of the Balkan region related to Serbian, and its support for morphological dictionaries can be applied in most morphologically complex languages, such as Slavic languages. Significant search improvements and the efficiency of IE are based on semantic networks and terminology dictionaries, with the support of local grammars.
Investor bears responsibility for proper preparation of the investment process. One of his tasks is to prepare the project documentation and obtaina building permit. Frequently, during his work, ...there are situations and events whose im pact interferes with the design solutions. Regardless of reasons, alterations to a project constitute a source of cost risk. In each case, the Investor should be prepared for this type of a risk. Exposure to risk should be taken into account in the planning stage of the investment. Also, a model of investment execution should be chosen at this stage. The type of model is associated with the distribution of risk throughout the project. The aim of this paper is to identify events that generate risk related to alterations to Project Documentation in the context of the selection of the investment executionmodel.
The process of area development and planning in compliance with conditions outlined in the Zoning Scheme is significant because of the current rapid development of rural and urban areas. The ...verification of project documentation in terms of observing constant and nationally binding norms, legislation and local laws is based on certain standards. In order to streamline the process of verification undertaken by the relevant public authorities, it is necessary to create formal algorithms that will automate the existing method of control of architecture-building documentation.
The objective of this article is algorithmisation of the project documentation verification allowing further streamlining and automation of the process.
A conservation process usually generates new knowledge and an enormous amount of documentation during the inception and implementation of the project: the information collected from archives and ...other institutions; the information provided by the preliminary studies carried out prior to the intervention; the data provided in the field during the works and at the end of the process; and the final set of documentation delivered to the institution responsible for the maintenance and management of the monument. The challenge for conservation professionals and cultural heritage managers throughout this process once the works are over is to achieve and transmit this information to the public and specialists in order to raise awareness for better conservation of our built heritage. During the last few years, one of the actions that the Caja Madrid Foundation has activated with its restoration projects has been the opening of permanent on site museums or “Salas de Fábrica”, a place on site to understand the restoration works, to exhibit the remains that have being retrieved during the project and to permit the public to better understand the historical and artistic values of architectural and archaeological heritage as well as the importance of preserving our cultural legacy for the future.
The aim of this paper is to determine and compare the risk handling methods resulting from alterations to Project Documentation. The presented compilations constitute a practical model of selecting ...the strategy of risk handling and facilitating the choice of the most suitable strategy in a particular project. The analysis was conducted on the basis of two projects within a range of environmental engineering – construction of sewage systems and a sewage treatment plant. The methodology of research was based on expert technique. From the point of finding usefulness, the most valuable information was gained from documentation reviews. The Records of Necessity were the fundamental, analysed documents which allow to determine the real view of alterations Project Documentation.
