School dropout is a risky behaviour that is a threat to well-being in adolescence. This study aimed to analyse school satisfaction and self-efficacy in school activities in a sample of adolescents ...attending secondary school in an Italian region at high risk of school dropout. The objective was to investigate whether differences exist among students on the basis of school dropout intention, gender, and career choices. Another aim was to identify, among the students' satisfaction variables, the main psychosocial predictors of dropout intention. Students (N = 1340) attending secondary schools in Sardinia completed Soresi's questionnaires on life satisfaction and self-efficacy. The data were analysed with a multivariate analysis of variance and logistic regression analysis. The results indicated that students intending to drop out of school scored lower on satisfaction with perceived support and satisfaction with peer and teacher relationships than their peers not at risk of dropping out. The logistic regression analysis showed that the most significant predictors of dropout intention were academic performance, satisfaction with the school experience, satisfaction in the relationships with teachers and with family members, and satisfaction with perceived support (26.9% of model variance). The results of this research thus indicate which areas could be addressed through prevention to improve well-being conditions in education.
Given that happiness or satisfaction with life is generally measured via an ordinal variable, the question arises as to how one should measure average happiness or satisfaction with life in a ...country, given that there is no arithmetic mean when dealing with ordinal variables. The same issue exists as far as deriving measures of inequality in happiness or in satisfaction with life is concerned, since traditional inequality indices cannot really be used with ordinal variables. The objective of this paper is to adopt recent suggestions made in the literature concerning the distribution of self-assessed health, an ordinal variable, and to propose new measures of the inequality in happiness or satisfaction with life and of the overall achievement in happiness or satisfaction with life. We apply the indices introduced in this literature and compare them with more traditional measures. Our empirical illustration is based on the World Values Surveys for the years 1995–98 (wave 3) and 2010–14 (wave 6), uses the data on satisfaction in life and covers 31 countries.
The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effects of depression in the relationship between income inequality and satisfaction in life perceived by female fishermen. To verify the purpose ...of the study, we used data from a survey of 215 female fishermen residing in Jeollanam-do, Korea, conducted at Jeonnam Women’s Plaza (now “Foundation of Jeonam Women and Family”) in 2016. Hierarchical analysis and Sobel-test using SPSS ver. 21.0 were used in the analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that there is a partial mediating effect of depression in the relationship between income inequality and satisfaction in life. Based on the result, we proposed practical and policy recommendations that can improve the satisfaction of female fishermen in their lives.

A retrospective cohort study was conducted on Japanese health management professionals (

= 4820). We analyzed the cohort’s demographics and reported changes in social capital (social engagement and trust), purpose in life, and life satisfaction using self-reported questionnaires and the Ikigai-9 scale. The cohort was categorized into group 1 (neither changes), group 2 (one changes), and group 3 (both change), based on the number of changes reported in social capital. Purpose in life and life satisfaction scores were then compared among the three groups. The purpose in life score (SD standard deviation) for groups 1, 2, and 3 was 30.7 (6.0), 32.5 (5.6), and 35.6 (5.2), respectively. Life satisfaction scores (SD) for groups 1, 2 and 3 were 3.35 (0.8), 3.67 (0.8), and 4.26 (0.7), respectively. Overall, when symptoms of Internet Gaming Disorder are present, do subjects experience decreased or increased life satisfaction, all other things being equal? The aim of this study was to explore the association between Internet Gaming Disorder symptoms and life satisfaction, while controlling for gender, age, and other conditions that may impact life satisfaction. More than 2000 adolescents filled out an anonymous questionnaire at school, and 43 patients in a care center filled out the same questionnaire. Sociodemographic characteristics, family life conditions, use of screens (videos, video games, and social networks), mental health screenings, and a life satisfaction measure were collected. Distribution of participants' characteristics was provided, and stratified multivariate analyses by young male, older male, young female, and older female school populations were carried out. Results suggested that Internet Gaming Disorder symptoms had similar prevalence before and after the age of 15 in males (21% vs. 19%) and in females (6% vs. 7%) respectively and was significantly associated with decreased life satisfaction in older males, even after adjusting for parental support, depression, and economic conditions. Associations between symptoms of Internet Gaming Disorder and life satisfaction may be different depending on adolescent gender and age group.
The main aim of this study was to analyze the eudaimonic and hedonic well-being of parents of children with cancer by considering the role of a global stressor-the COVID-19 pandemic. One group of ...parents was assessed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the other was assessed before it occurred. It was hypothesized that there may be a cumulative effect of stress, with parents expressing lower well-being during the pandemic due to the accumulation of stress related to their child's illness and the pandemic. In total, 310 parents participated in the study. Following propensity score matching, 111 pairs were established. The results of the comparative analyses did not support the hypothesis, as the groups did not differ significantly in their reported levels of either eudaimonic (F (1.93) = 0.11,

= 0.0001). These findings showed a limited effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the well-being of parents of children with cancer. The oncological disease of a child is likely to be the central and the strongest factor for the parents, meaning that an additional, global stressor does not cause deeper exacerbation of their well-being.

The authors investigated the relationship of purpose of life, and hope in the happiness and life satisfaction of patients with cancer during or following cancer treatment. Fifty cancer patients were ...interviewed during recovery in two Warsaw medical centers. The primary measures used were Purpose in Life Test, Herth Hope Index, Happiness and Social Well-Being tools by Czapiński, and the Cantril Ladder of Satisfaction with Life, as well as medical and demographic measures. Purpose in life was correlated with measures of happiness, and satisfaction with life. Hope was correlated with current happiness, and four measures of satisfaction with life. Patients who had cancer longer, that is, duration of disease, showed lower scores for purpose in life, and number of friends. The longer the time of cancer treatment, the lower were patients' scores for desire for life. Purpose in life and hope were positively correlated with eleven measures of happiness and satisfaction in life. The cancer variables negatively correlated with loss of friends and six variables of happiness, and satisfaction in life, suggesting the impact that having cancer treatment had on patients' lives. Psychological support in the cancer center was helpful to patients in and out of treatment.
El presente estudio pretende aportar evidencias sobre la relación entre IE, resiliencia y bienestar. Se cuenta con una muestra de 432 estudiantes universitarios. El rango de edad oscila entre 17 y 59 ...años, con una media de 21,77 (DT=5,12). Se recogió información mediante 3 autoinformes: el Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24, la Escala de Resiliencia de Wagnild y Young y la Escala de Satisfacción con la Vida de Diener, Emmons, Larsen y Griffin. Con respecto a la asociación de la satisfacción con la vida y la IE rasgo, se relacionó de manera estadísticamente significativa y positiva con claridad emocional y con reparación emocional. Igualmente, se encontraron relaciones significativas y positivas entre la satisfacción con la vida y la resiliencia. Los resultados evidencian que los sujetos con un nivel alto de resiliencia y de reparación emocional presentan puntuaciones más elevadas en satisfacción con la vida. Por otra parte, los análisis de regresión mostraron asociaciones positivas entre la satisfacción con la vida, la resiliencia y la reparación emocional; por el contrario, se confirmaron asociaciones negativas con atención emocional. Finalmente, las consecuencias prácticas de ese estudio subrayan la necesidad de fomentar la educación de la IE y la resiliencia para mejorar el bienestar personal.
Objectives This study examined eating behaviors, among other variables, and aimed to identify the factors that influence “satisfaction in dietary life” and “satisfaction in life” among elderly women ...living in rural areas of Hokkaido, Japan. Methods We recruited 165 women aged 65 and older from five day-care centers in three small towns within rural areas in Hokkaido and interviewed them using a survey, along with a questionnaire to collect data on basic attributes, health conditions, eating behavior, satisfaction in dietary life, and satisfaction in life. First, we conducted factor analysis for the dietary behavior items, then correlation analysis for dietary behavior factors, satisfaction in dietary life scores, and satisfaction in life scores. In addition, we performed a path analysis on the “satisfaction in life” score as a dependent variable, with “age,” “degree of independence,” “family form,” “economic status,” “dietary behavior factors score,” and “satisfaction in dietary life score” as independent variables. Results Out of the analyzed data for 165 subjects, only 22 items regarding dietary behavior factors were selected; 6 factors were extracted and labeled as “inconvenience of cooking and eating,” “practice of cooking,” “quality of meal,” “interest in obtaining food,” “reason for eating,” and “eating with someone.” The “satisfaction in dietary life” scores had a positive correlation with the “satisfaction in life” scores (ρ=0.58, P<0.01）. The path analysis revealed that the factors “quality of meal” (β=0.36, P<0.01）, “eating with someone” (β=0.19, P<0.05), and “age” (β=0.19, P<0.05) influenced the “satisfaction in dietary life” score directly. Additionally, “interest in obtaining food” (β=0.23, P<0.05) influenced the “quality of meal.” The path analysis showed that 34% of the variance of “satisfaction in life” could be explained by “satisfaction in dietary life” (β=0.57, P<0.01). Conclusion The results of this study suggest that improving “satisfaction in dietary life” is important in enhancing “satisfaction in life” among elderly women. In addition, improving “quality of meal” and creating an environment for “eating with someone” influenced “satisfaction in dietary life.” The results also suggest that providing health and welfare services focused on enhancing elderly women's dietary life is very important to improve their overall quality of life.
